Hahaha that is called a low yo-yo. 14.42 to beat r37 .you can do that also gaining altitude and it's called high yo-yo. try this with the Phoenix missile. don't slave the missile. fire Dum then turn on missile in-flight. it's part of tws radar the secondary scan. the missile will fly with a flat trajectory. another maneuver. s turning .sounds exactly what it is doing an s towards your opponent you could even make it a barrel roll. A little more difficult dodging then the high or low yo-yo what can combine both

That was one of the most informative, and exciting videos I've seen. I especially appreciate the analysis. The F-110 powered F-14 was definitely the best pure naval fighter built. To defeat multiple R-37M shots is no small accomplishment Just imagine if there were 2 Tomcats! Spectacular fight. Keep 'em coming!

The MIG-25 and MIG-31 were designed for the interceptor role, the last US plane to be purely designed for the interceptor role was the F-106. The US airforce has used F-4, F-15, F-16, F-22, and F-35 (I believe some interceptor squadrons are using F-35s) for the interceptor role since the F-106 left service. The MIG-25 was a rush job for high speed and high altitude interception of the XB-70 which ended up never going into service, the MIG-31 was a much improved plane.

Great job. I have been telling GS to do those kinds of missile defensive maneuvers in his videos. It's better than always diving away and trying to stay out of the MAR. You want to make the missiles pull lead and bleed their energy in more than one direction. And you maintain your altitude and ability to go back on offense quicker.

Hey long shot, That's exactly what that maneuver is called is a corkscrew. If you notice, they are not like 9x thrust vector. The design of that missile is as such. When it gets with in certain parameters, the motor shuts down to slow it down so it can predict the interception. Similar to Phoenix but we shut ours down a little further out. Changing your AOA of your nose authority. That's what they're tracking and trying to predict. Where are you going to be? Even though they don't give the Phoenix the distance that it really has, at least they have given it. It's proper auto shutdown within parameters to continue to have a high probability of the intercept. The Russian missiles they bring it into so close by the time it shut down. Just a little nose authority just like you're doing. Says it all. Loved it brother!👊😎 AWESOME ! Keep them coming 🫠

Once ignited, solid propellant rocket motors can't be shut down and will keep burning (at rate determined by temperature/pressure) until there's no propellant left. Solid propellant is literally like big chunk of slowly burning explosive. You need liquid propellants, or hybrid motor (with usually oxidizer as liquid) to be able to shut down motor and either would be by itself significant extra complexity.
@RagsDCS
@RagsDCS 5 ай бұрын
@@tuunaes I can't speak for Russia but the Phoenix missile is designed to get an altitude advance approximately 80k than it will shut off or run out either like you said fuel ie of any kind. Or proxy to the interception. Watching it in real life a couple times and watching it on DCS. The range seems to have little effect. The r27 from 20 mi closure or a 60 mi closure it shuts down late at almost impact so it does not have enough time to adjust for the maneuvers. As the Phoenix and what you say, may very well may be true and I will go along with that for the reasons of the climb and design of the Phoenix. So when it comes down even at terminal velocity, It has plenty of time for the intercept. All I did was describe what I seen between the 2 different types of long shots. BVRs. I thank you though very much. It does make sense but if that was the case the Russian rocket will still be burning at 20 mi and run out of fuel ie any kind. From a further shop. That's my point. Every time it gets to within a certain distance, it shuts down every time. This is where I came up with the theory of the Russian missile having a proxy fuse on it. It knows how close it is to the target. I really appreciate it. It does give me a little better aspect of Russian missiles. And it very well. May be the same for the Phoenix, but there's a reason why we want it to go high is so it has all the time in the world even at terminal velocity when they think that they have out maneuvered it even at 200 knots boom. 👊😎 Appreciate it 🕊️

It's funny, I was just thinking earlier today that it might be possible to dodge missiles differently if you could see them coming with something like the distributed aperture system and then you went and posted this. It looks like a good way to defend while higher or faster to recommit with more energy, awesome vid
@jedi9577
@jedi9577 5 ай бұрын
That's a cool way to use the very high speed of the R-37 against it. It makes sense though. Being very fast generally means having a huge turn circle. It doesn't matter how much energy the missile has if it can't turn tight enough to make the intercept.
@RaderizDorret
@RaderizDorret 5 ай бұрын
That's actually a known weakness of the Phoenix as well: at extended range, it can't turn hard enough to chase fighters all that well because it is also hypersonic for a good part of its flight profile (the AIM-54C hits Mach 5 while the A and B variants hit about 4.6). Missiles like that are meant to hit slow-movers like bombers, AWACS, tankers, etc and not fighters. What Longshot is doing here is not unlike how Jack Dempsey, Mike Tyson, and Joe Frazier would get inside the reach of their opponents: highly evasive and erratic movement to make the other guy miss.

After watching fox2 fights, there were many times that the bandit would change trajectory and the missile would miss and not make the turn with the bandit. You are on to something here but 2v1 odds are hard to beat especially being flanked. The down and up and turn maneuver will work with timing consistent maneuvers. Plus shooting and keeping a radar track on your own missiles is quite a feat. Pressing and not going cold... You did very well Especially against hypersonic missiles ! This won't be the last time we'll be seeing this... I hope. Its fun, LongShot...

Hey Longshot! Great video. Check with GS about that lofting problem with the Phoenix. He was having the same problem and someone (a Tomcat pilot?) clued him into a setting for the missile that flattens its trajectory (lofting is the missile's default and has to be shut off). You might check the missile settings and be able to figure out which one it is that must be changed/disabled.

Remember that when you change direction right,left or up its bleeding energy from the missile. Diving lets it gain energy. If you hold these off vectors momentarily it will cause the high speed missiles to go in that direction exponentially due to the speed difference.

OMG, I did something similar in Eurofighter2000 (DOS game) back in days... I was able to do it maybe twice, but literally saw the missile that cannot turn with me, I didn't try again, but you show it's a possible maneuver. The main problem is maintaining high speed while doing highly speed-consuming maneuvers, that need precise balance, any cannot sustain against multiple missiles.

BTW Longshot, I tested this out(your tactic) against other Fox-3 Missiles, from the PL's of China, the R-77&37, the 120C, Pheonix and the Meteor The results netted a faster closure rate, faster recommit times, a lower T.o.T, and a harder profile to dodge, it just requires speed, alot of it(Edit: Its at the 15km ranges where it works, don't try it any further, ideally) Also, try the same fight in the Eagle-C, you'll keep your speed better, and I'd rather have better speed retention than Missile range, or the J-11, where you get both(Edit: or the Typhoon)

It looks like big high speed stepped corkscrews are enough to defeat their missles. But the closer you get the less you have a step (pause) in the corkscrew rotation because a pause equals a predictable flightpath. You want a predictable flightpath away from the enemy aircraft when at a distance but a non-predictable flightpath when close to their missiles.

Your loft shots are great but the second shots that are inside 20nm you need the have the ACM switch up/open to disable the loft logic on the Phoenix.

Very interesting process - thanks. What eventually worked for you is the same maneuver that was adopted by Israeli pilots for missile evasion in Yom Kippur war - a barrel roll. This was used by the pilots after consultation with mathematicians and aerospace engineers to create the biggest challenge to the leading algorithms of these missiles and it reduced the loss ratio from the beginning of the war towards the end.

Engineers: Fly toward the launching aircraft (and missile) in a corkscrew pattern pattern. Pilots: YGBSM 😂

I am reminded that the tactic that you used resembled the corkscrew manoeuver used by RAF Bomber Command pilots in WW2 when a Luftwaffe night fighter was detected.

As to load limits: The a/c likely can take it (with damage sustained?), but I see little chance for the pilot to take in excess of 9 G. "Even" 9 G is too much for most pilots.
