Today I get a golf lesson to fix my sliding problem in my golf swing. Once I stopped sliding on my backswing it helped me get an easy and consistent golf swing.. My golf coach Dana Dahlquist also gives me golf tips and drills to get better impact on the ball, and we also go over my driver by the end.

I like Dana’s direction to hold your finish, and I like it for this reason… You have a habit of analyzing every swing the moment you make it. You almost look dejected after each one, in fact, immediately doing a rehearsal of what you think you should have done instead. This is a marathon of small steps and you should expect lots of bad shots and swings. It’s a process. Break the habit of analyzing each swing. Just hold the finish and watch the ball land. Forgive yourself if it’s not the majestic shot you were hoping for and know that it continues to improve with every one, as it has been.

Great series. I think people are under the assumption that these lessons are for them and will work for the masses... Dana makes it quite clear in all his vids that when he tells a student to do something, its specific for that student. Dana also teaches different patterns (swings), all these comments about too much side bend ect. Its not too much side bend for Jerome, he's young, flexible, and an athlete. People need to chill and enjoy the free content, extract what might apply to you, and be thankful we have access to a top coach (my fav).

Jerome. Quit worrying about the ball direction and what you might have done wrong. Groove the right feel in the lesson and the rest will come. Golf is a game of miss hits. The player who misses the least wins! Let your coach tell you what you are doing wrong then work his fixes. He is the one who diagnoses you. Concentrate on the good feels and his positive reinforcement of them. Otherwise your every swing thought is negative and diagnosis based rather then enforcing your good feels! No more analysis paralysis! Thanks for helping us all by the way!

It's the best practical IRL instructional series on social media. It's real. Seen so many guys jump from coach to coach doing quick fixes on a weekly basis. Please keep this going. Don't feel dejected. Stick with the program. Good things will come.

Very interesting show. A suggestion for a future episode: a look at the steps in the evolution of your swing and the evolution of Dana’s coaching in response to each development. Seems as if watchers (often) grab on to one thing (one “fix”) and focus on it - versus the entire process in which Dana guides you through a longer development of skills. Would be great at some point to see this evolution from each of your points of view. It’s his thinking and the ways he focuses on how to learn that I, myself, enjoy the most.

Dana is doing a great job explaining things and not letting you spiral into too many details. The golf swing is supposed to be athletic not an overthinking process once you get the technique mostly down. The one major thing I wish he'd have you do is swing at 50% speed a lot of times when hitting balls and pose on your full finish. A lot of times it looks like you're either off balance or didn't like the contact and then just grab the next ball. You just need to take your time, a small amount of correct reps are way more useful than machine gunning balls with bad reps.

On the backswing, try to feel like you’re reaching for something way behind you…you’ll create width, and it will prevent your back from going towards your left side. It will also ensure that your right elbow doesn’t bend too much.

Followed from the start. I struggle with all the things you do, reverse pivot is so hard to shake, and then trying to pressure left to get compression/divots after the ball. Been trying the turn hands down this week after your last lesson working well. Gonna give this side bend going under without pulling left a go now. Love it. Also I’m a big fan of Spearfishing 😆

Jerome, I have very similar problem as you with the lower body sliding left while not having enough right side bend through the impact. I am a 4 handicaper and constantly trying to improve swing mechanics. Looking at this last few videos where you are trying to incorporate more right side bend, I feel like this is a different release pattern to what the old school methods where hands and wrists are more active trying to close the face. This is much more depending on your body and wether you body can actually tilt like Nieman. Can you confirm with Dana that this release pattern may not suit everyone , its more for the ppl with enough flexibilty? Thank you.

Maybe I've Ben watching too many of theses videos, but what happened to the Greg Norman drill and that pressure(like falling) into the left side? I'm assuming that as your swing improves these moves are phased out because they are over exaggerations of feelings.

From the down the line driver swing at 27:20 I can see that your hand path is very far away from your body on your downswing. I used to do the SAME THING. Look at where your hands are at address compared to impact. The things that helped me the most here are taking a backswing and just dropping your hands to feel the sensation of hands coming down and the other is the wall drill where the wall is behind you and you feel your club head riding the wall down vertically for as long as possible. Your hands have to come down. It will continue to be hard for you to draw the ball with your hands so far away from your body. You need to unglue your left bicep from your upper chest.❤

Jerome, you have a conceptual flaw and lack of experience with double pendulum. You can’t fix concepts with mechanics. Try this drill, left arm only, 1/2 to 3/4 shoulder turn, full wrist set. To attack shallow from inside let your athletic brain takeover. You will end up sitting left and letting arm fall before turning body. Of course you will also be learning left hand alignments. The longer the club the farther behind you need to think of low point. There is more to learn but this concept will influence your entire swing and is why all tour pro’s look similar from P5 to P6. Later learn how to parametric left and thrust right as a swinger. Only do this if you want to learn how to swing a club. If you want to document a struggle with marginal improvement keep doing what you’re doing.

Best thing you need to realize. When you make a swing change, you will hit GARBAGE shots to start out. That is because of the cross between old patterns and new patterns. You want new patterns, and then your athleticism will kick in an ball will find the club face better. If you are result based, the result is changing the image of your swing, not where the ball goes when you practice swing changes.
