► ABOUT HALF-LIFE 2 EPISODES 1 AND 2 🎮
Half-Life 2 Episode 1 follows the immediate aftermath of Half-Life 2. The destruction of the Citadel has lead to the mass evacuation of CIty 17, and it's up to Gordon, Alyx, and the rest of the humans there to escape as quickly as possible and hold off the Combine's reinforcements for as long as they can. Episode 2 picks things up right where things were left off at the end of Episode 1. An infant "superportal" has emerged from the ruins of the Citadel, and if it's not closed off soon, it will be the end of Earth once and for all.

Hey Mr. Jarhead, if you ever plan on covering Half Life 2 mods in the future, try playing Minerva: Metastasis first. It’s a pretty enjoyable mod and the ending leaves you wanting more, especially after the outro soundtrack plays. It was also planned to have two more sequels, one of which was Minerva: Out of Time. If you do a little bit of digging, you can find plenty of extra lore about Minerva Metastasis and what Minerva Out of Time was supposed to be. It’s a shame the mod creator never continued the mod but you should give Metastasis a try.

If Valve is waiting for something "groundbreaking" to release Half Life 3, they should take a look at the current state of gaming and realize that releasing a good game would be considered groundbreaking. The more I think about it the more I find Valve is falling in the same mistake 3D Realms did with Duke Nukem: lack of focus, always pursuiting new technologies and gimmicks instead of just delivering great games with what they could already do (and they had a lot of talented people working there, I don't know how it's nowadays).
@sockpuppermcgee7920
@sockpuppermcgee7920 Ай бұрын
@@chpsilva Way I see it is there's always a way to overmilk a good franchise, HL being no exception. If they just milked tf out of this game by releasing sequel after sequel with no groundbreaking evolutions, it'd get stale. There's currently HL1, HL2, HL2 Ep1/2, along with playable tech demos, extra content you could consider as DLCs, and a metric boatload of fangames. Valve wants every version of Half Life to be insane, something no one else could create at the time. Sure, they could just pump out games like nothing, but so can other people, it'd have no value to them if anybody could do it. 'least, that's how I see it. I want them to innovate, it's why I love them so much. They had all the money in the world and still made HL:A, they don't need profit, they want to showcase their skill and passion. No one's released a game like HL:A prior to Valve.

I think Valve is a more tech-driven company rather than story-driven. If they release Half Life 3 it's because they want to release some tech to the world. Congrats for finally making it into the same boat as the rest of us! The message in the live chat got cut off by the ending so I'll repeat it here: saving the Entropy Zero series for much later would be a good idea since EZ:2 has a major update in the works that would add in dynamic combat animations for your allies. Also, Entropy Zero: Uprising would be getting Episode 2 somewhere around this summer and it's worth checking out as well (it's a mod of a mod, fyi). Lastly, I do want to talk about the Zombine (Combine zombie) because their presence has some terrifying lore implications for headcrabs. Example: We know headcrabs can take over a person fast, but the Zombines prove they could do it ridiculously fast! Headcrabs can chew through the gasmask helmet and take over a cyborg human faster than their comrades can shoot it off. And the fact that we can find multiple Zombines in the same general area shows that headcrabs may be more numerous and/or agile than what the gameplay shows!

So Thank You, For Making Us Feel Something About Our Favourite Game We Haven’t Felt In A Long Time. During the post-credit scene for Alyx, there’s a pretty direct hint/nod to another Half-Life game potentially coming in the future. Maybe it’s just hopium but it’d be really weird if Valve hinted at another game *within* their other game without at least having some ambition to release HL2e3 or HL3 or literally anything (preferably non-VR) at some point.

I also played Portal first, before going through all of HL2 in the Orange Box, then back to HL1 (insert the startings of 2k hours of TF2 intermittently). It's been amazing just watching how the community has made their own Half Life 3. The best in my opinion being Entropy: Zero & Entropy Zero 2, where you play as a combine soldier dealing with an uprising in a canonically irrelevant location, City 10, but in Entropy: Zero 2, you are the combine hunting down Judith Mossman and the Borealis in the arctic. That's not the full picture. Valve's writers realised that with the plan they were going for with Episode 3, they were writing themselves into a corner for future installments, which doesn't gel with Valve's "Always leave your options open" philosophy. Things kept getting more complicated as they tried to work their way around it, and eventually, it was just taking too long and getting too out of hand. Episode 3 was canned, and multiple teams within Valve afterward *tried* to get HL3 going, but between audience expectations soaring higher and higher, and the project having to deal with so many loose ends and having to live up to such high standards, it just wasn't feasible. Nothing they could realistically make would be enough, and fans were bound to be left disappointed. There's also the matter of innovation. Every main HL game is made for the sake of innovating and showcasing something. HL1 had a cohesive atmoshperic story and a grounded setting. HL2 expanded on that while also introducing a fully fledged physics system and integrating it naturally into gameplay. But as the industry gets further along, the rate of innovation slows down. Valve is still a very small company, and it'd take them a shitload of work to make a game that innovated and lived up to HL's legendary pedigree in the 2010s and especially in the 2020s compared to other companies. Given that and the impossibly high expectations mean that the next HL game, even if it came out as a masterpiece, would take an astronomical amount of effort to make and would almost certainly *still* leave a lot of fans unsatisfied no matter how good it actually was. That's why Alyx was the way it was. If you can't make something greater than, you're gonna wind up being less than by default. Unless you do something to be *different*. VR was a way out of the HL3 problem. A way to write themselves out of that corner and still push boundaries the way HL is expected to, by taking a new medium and getting the most out of it. And it even abides by Valve's philosphy of leaving doors open, by ending with a cliffhanger, a direct goal for the next game, and a lot of potential. The HL universe is new again. We may get another game out of it or not, but HL Alyx NEEDED to happen the way it did for the series to get out of this hole

Alyx was great, it was amazing and I don't regret playing it, but it didn't give me hope for HL3; if anything it might have taken away hope because it was such a technological achievement that they are going to spend FOREVER trying to one up their previous effort.

Oh man that was a very nice video series to watch into one sitting! Valve really knows its stuff, and you really know how to make good videos, ya got a new subscriber ♥ Also some other interesting Valve tidbits (maybe you don't know them yet) Valve created their own VR hardware/eco system where Half Life Alyx was the system seller showing how well VR and the Index is. Valve created and launched the Steam Deck a year ago. Portable gaming handheld running on linux. Once again innovating a lot on handheld gaming experience both hardware and software wise. (Plus it came with a "Aperture Desk Job" a portal tech demo introducing to the steam deck) Now according to steam client/VR data mining, Valve is working on a stand alone VR device (code name Deckard) using some of the same bits and chips as the Steam Deck. If/when this device launches it will likely launch together with a game or tech demo thingy at least. So there's definitely hope. Tl;Dr: Valve is cooking, but instead of hiring more cooks they keep expanding the size of the kitchen.

From what I could gather, the Deckard will have a XR2 chip on board, which can run Meta OS (considering they are releasing it for other HMDs now), but also be used wirelessly with either a PC or a "compute unit", a Steambox so to speak, as Valve had planned a decade ago. AMD will release new high end APUs in Q3, so I guess (or rather hope) we will see something in Q4.

Everything about Episode 2 screamed good game design. Even the final battle with the striders is over cumbersome, because it has that achievement of you not letting any outposts fall. An achievement that seems impossible at first, but then you learn that only a select few striders actually target those outposts and they arrive at select moments. Had this been a modern game, I'm sure they would've fucked that part up, and made the rushing striders come at your outposts at random, making the whole thing much more frustrating.

To me at least, the post credits scene of Alyx makes it clear to me that Valve does care to continue the story. It feels like an MCU post credits. Even if it hasn't even started development four years later, it's not even close to impossible that they're considering it. But maybe that's just me coping because I only joined the wait a few months before you did. It really does seem like they only make their big games when they can revolutionize the industry, like how Alyx showed what VR games could be, and no VR game has come close yet. Also also, (spoilers for Alyx), if the Administrators take memories, and Eli is no longer dead, then the Combine *don't* end up with Eli's knowledge (which would be immense, assuming he knows the technology behind teleportation and the location of the borealis). My favorite thing about Alyx, is that g-man expresses intrest in Alyx as a potential hire here in episode 2. Wild stuff Valve.

You concluded so nicely! Imagine another 15 years of waiting - that's the level of unfulfilled you can look forward to. HL2: mE3 is why I scoff when people say they've waiting too long for the next Game Of Thrones book. I have kids almost finishing high school who weren't even conceived when I first completed Episode 2. Mr. Jarhead, I'm so glad you've joined the team, but I think you still understate the despair of this abject lack of closure. We never had a reason to doubt Episode 3 was coming, but then months became years became decades. This shit left some of us with trust issues.

Valve, will take how many years that Gabe has left to make HL3, and with valve knowing that they can't improve or create something NEW, as it was intended with the rest of the saga, we'll have to wait, there's a chance that, Alyx had years on writing as for Epistle 3 cliffhanger involving G-Man using Alyx to hit the combine, which also implies that the script for HL3 is being written or has been already written, just still being developed, we'll never know, and it's better that way, no ending is what keeps this alive, to whatever is coming has to be revolutionary for valve, it's like Nintendo with mario, they use him to experiment, valve does similar but even better, it's really amazing for what it is, and will stay that way for the upcoming years...

I feel like the next big innovation used to justify the creation of Half-Life 3 would be very valid if it was just a desktop first person experience using the new Source 2 engine. They don't have a complete title using the new engine yet, Counter Strike 2 is the only desktop game released that actually runs on the engine so far.

Source 2 took a very long time for them to perfect enough in a way that allowed them to create a VR game like Half-Life Alyx, surely they want to make more use of their game engine with more games being built with it. I certainly would.

You should definitely play Entropy Zero and Entropy Zero 2. Those two mods(?)/hacks(?) of HL2 take place around the same time as the main games (at least EZ2). The first EZ has some points that drag a little, but EZ2 has a really great story and excellent humour imo.

I played the original Half Life on release and the same with HL2 and Episodes 1/2. It's really fun watching someone experiencing these games for the first time, it's like a whole generation of gamers fed up with modern stuff is going back and playing these older games and it's a hoot to see more HL content lately. It's like someone picking through your childhood like "hey, look at this cool thing you did!" and you get to watch someone else experience it for the first time, brings you right back to playing it for the first time all over again. And hell I'm not very old at all (in my own mind).

This game has the Hardest and yet Impossible Achievements if you want to 100% This game. For Example in Episode 1, You have to complete the Game without using any Guns like Shotgun, Rifle, Combine gun, Pistol and revolver. In the Citadel core, You have to beat the level without killing any Stalkers. In Episode 2, you have to COMPLETE the game while carrying a Gnome you have since the first chapter of the Game. There is other ones like Killing a Chopper without Missing a single bomb, Win the Strider level with them not destroying any buildings and, Find and kill every Grub in the Mines. This is the Hardest achievements to get, Even on the Console ports.

Lol, these achievements are quite easy to do. I did 100% the ep1 in a single run. The real hard is to 100% black mesa because there are a few items which need to be carried throughout the entire game, also there is no gravity gun, which makes it even harder.

Now I understand what half-life as a series is, good vid dude. Back in like the early 2010s I remember I saw the ending scene of half life 2 out of context and even I knew something shocking was going on, it just blows that it ended in a cliff hanger that hopefully one day would get another game
