I fixed the Shakey Camera in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show in less than 5 minutes. It literally took me longer to export/upload the video than it did to warp stabilize it. It's not perfect but it I feel that it makes it seems a lot more Star Wars like.

I think the still/edited version adds more solemnity to that moment. I think the shaky cam could actually be useful in some scenes as a POV from Kenobi when he’s feeling unnerved, such as when he first learns Vader’s alive, but overusing shaky cam can sometimes be distracting. Like everything, there is a balance to be found.

It doesn't need to move at all. It's one of my biggest complaints of modern cinema. The obsession with moving cameras. Just lock it to a tripod. This is part of the magic of classic Lucas /Spielberg films. They only used moving cameras strategically. So when it happened, it stood out. You don't need a sweeping drone shot for an establishing shot. Lock your camera next to a rock, have a little alien lizard move across it. That's classic Lucas establishing shot work.

It creates the unease and an almost documentarian look that accompanies Obi Wans journey with grief and finding contentedness. I spent years in film classes by the way. The use of shaky cam in this scene is totally pointless and amateur. The whole point of a shaky cam is to convey that a scene is so intense in action (especially if there're explosions involved) that it actually affects the camera/audience POV to a physical level. Here there's zero reason to make the camera shake like that. One thing is to have the camera slightly moving to create uneasiness (like in that fan edit), which is a good point given what this scene is telling us, but the extra shakiness is completely senseless here (and annoying).

Very interesting. Shaky cam can be great but not in this case obviously, not for that kind of emotional moment. The most disturbing thing usually is that the operator add unnecessary movements to a shaky cam that is already shaky without stabilizer, which is a very bad idea. The most bizarre trend these times is to use a shaky cam on wide shot without any character in it, which is even more ridiculous (last Nicolas Cage movie "Arcadian" for example).

Shaky cam is mostly useless as a film technique, grit comes from the content of the scene and not the shooting style. In the Bourne movies that popularized shaky cam, the shaky cam makes things feel more documentary style and unrehearsed, but this is Kenobi; there's no reason to make it look that way. It's an instalment in a space opera franchise, it's ok to keep the camera still and let us take in the image as it is. The camera shouldn't draw focus at all!

Obi Wan show has one of the worst camera works and cinematography I've ever seen. Every shot is extremely shaky for no reason. The combat sections are the worst. Not only is the camera ridiculously shaky, but the extreme closeups and incessant cuts make them feel chaotic, amateurish and unpleasant to look at. Compare that to the Darth Maul duel from the Phantom Menace. Notice how long and stable the shots are. Notice how few cuts there are. That duel is amazing because WE CAN SEE what's happening and the choreography is masterful. Obi Wan show tried to cover up terrible choreography and boring scenes with exaggerated camera shake and excessive amount of cuts: "LOOK GUYS, IT'S SHAKY AND FAST SO IT'S FUN AND EXCITING!"

It wouldn't be too bad if the camera shook at the beginning. Being a little shocking. But not the whole scene.

Shaky cam works in certain kinds of movies and shows but it feels out of place in Star Wars.

can you do it for the whole show and not just for 5 minutes?

Is it bad that now I realized how shaky the camera actually is?
