Well, that brought back memories. My first aircraft was a Cardinal (N13409} that I bought in 1991 just outside of Indianapolis and flew home to western CT. ADF didn't work, LORAN didn't work (WAY before GPS), and compass was way off. It was nightfall, the wind picked up along with downdrafts. I got lost over the central PA mountains, clicked my mike on unicom frequencies and a large airport lit up underneath me - it even had a rabbit! Landed and while taxiing to the terminal there were large, dark shapes in the beam of my landing light that I finally recognized as Chinook helicopters! Oh, Damn! I landed at a military airport! I called up flight service and we determined I was at Mid-State airport, joint-use civilian and National Guard. Whew. Spent the night and flew home in the morning IFR (I Follow Roads).

I saw a Yankee in the background as you taxied in at home! Many hours in the Yankee many years ago. Thanks for the ride!! Also had some Cardinal time years ago. Great memories!

I loved that "Grumman Grin" when you were told by ATC that you had a 20 knot advantage over that Cardinal! Sweet video... also, great to see Dennis. I enjoy his posts on them FB Grumman owners sites. This is pretty crazy for me. My Dad was in Skycombers in the 80's. I flew all over the place with him in N11487, which was the first Cardinal they had. I am so glad I found this channel. Thanks for sharing this!

You commented on the speed. Check your elevator position at 7:22. You can see how nose heavy the Tiger is. Get some weight on the rearmost part of the baggage area and see speed improve further. Once trimmed, the elevator position should be neutral (and not fighting itself).

I saw these guys in Craigslist a short while ago. I'm still working on my LS, so I can start the slow, expensive path to private pilot, but hoping to get through it relatively quickly. Seems like an attainable way to fly.

I flew a fixed gear cardinal from CA to PA and back in 1976. Back when you could rent a plane and fly cheaper with 2 people than with an airline. The good ole days.

Please read Advisory Circular 90-66B and use your N# for radio calls and not "blue and white tiger". Why use two different communication techniques when flying controlled vs. uncontrolled. Would you talk to center and say "blue and white tiger" or would you use your registration?

Great video, I am just now joining a flying club near NYC for the first time and am really looking forward to it. I have a question about a presumably Socal-based Grumman Tiger that remains to this day one of the most beautiful GA planes I have ever seen. I saw this plane at VNY back in 2016 I think. It was this great shade of green, sorta olive/avocado green, with an interior to match. Older avionics, but the paint and interior was just fantastic. By any chance have you come across a Tiger that matches this description? Love your videos, keep up the good work, and fly safe!
