In part 5 I finally make it to the ridge. What a view and hopefully that is the last of the bush whacking.
*PART 1 is here ON THE TRAIL WITH A CHINESE SIDE BY SIDE PART 1.
• 4 DAY SIDE BY SIDE ADV...
***Here’s some Amazon links to the parts I used in this build. I only use the ones that work good.
*ENGINE iCE coolant. This stuff works at lowering engine temperatures!! amzn.to/3OnJG8g
*Oil Filter- These 700’s have an oddball oil filter that is NOT the same as the 660 or 700 Yamaha Rhino. Here’s the link to the filter I use amzn.to/3RSIhJV
** package of 2 oil filters-amzn.to/3V3yIJQ
*Clutch Shim Kit-I used these shims to lower my low end gearing. These sxs’s are geared taller than the Rhino so need all the help they can get. amzn.to/3RPodrP
*Mishimoto Oversized Radiator- this was a game changer and makes the engine run so much cooler than stock. It’s for the 660 Rhino so it IS NOT a direct bolt on but easy to fab up brackets to make it fit. My engine never goes over 175°F even on long steep climbs on hot days.
Keeps everything much cooler and more reliable than stock. Watch for my video showing how I made the brackets. amzn.to/3v4bY0P
*Exhaust pipe header wrap-This stuff works awesome at keeping the heat down around the engine.I just wet the header wrap then installed and despite bad reviews it’s holding up great. I think the key is to lightly wet the wrap before install-amzn.to/3oeHDJn
*Exhaust pipe gasket and headpipe washers/gasket- These seem to be working good no leaks after a couple hundred miles. amzn.to/3zm1oVA
*Choke Cable-surprisingly this is a well built cable and fit 100%. I usually like to buy Yamaha cables but this one is high quality plus over half the cost. amzn.to/3ojeahu
*Air Box boot- this goes from the airbox to the carburetor and it did fit but it had no recess like the stock one had so I had to modify it. It would have still bolted on but I didn’t like the lip of the carb sticking out. U ground the edge with a dremel and it works fine but i’d use a factory Yamaha 660 Rhino boot if I did it again. If you need it fast though it will work. amzn.to/3OvumXC
*Clutch cover Rubber gasket-Fits perfect- amzn.to/3cr02zS
*4 wheel drive servo motor- if you need a new 4x4 electric motor this brand works great. Bolted right in.
amzn.to/3czmqHy
*steering rack- this bolted right in and fit perfect. I have a couple hundred miles on it and will do a review later to let you know how it holds up. Much cheaper than buying a Yamaha rack and convenient to buy on Amazon.
*Gear shift boot-the stock one was all cracked up so I ordered this one and it seems high quality and fit great. Also it doesn’t have that horrible made in China smell that lots of the older parts made there used to have. amzn.to/3aXwvxu
*Oil pressure gauge- digital RED gauge with the pressure sender as well. Don’t forget to ground the metal gauge or it won’t work! amzn.to/3PEhfEV
*Starter- this starter is the DB electric brand and it works great!
It turns my engine over much faster than the original. I put silicone around the seams to keep water out and 3 years later it’s still working great. amzn.to/3yQkh1s
*Ball Joints- these are the All Balls brand and normally in the past I did not have good luck with these. It looks like they upgraded the boots and other parts of them now and so far they are still nice and tight. Make sure you freeze them for 24hrs the heat the knuckle up and they will slide right in no hammering needed and best chance of them lasting a long time-amzn.to/3v78Wcf
*Front Wheel Bearing kit- this is the Pivot Works brand and I’ve tried all brands of bearings and have great luck with these vs other ones.
One pack will do both front wheels and they come with excellent oem quality wheel seals as well. No complaints and make sure to freeze the bearings for 24hrs in the freezer then heat the knuckle before install they’ll slide right in.
Front wheel nut torque on mine is 190ft/lbs make sure you torque them don’t guess or you will have play in the bearings-amzn.to/3cyqY0R
** Rear wheel bearing kit.Pivot Works brand.
amzn.to/3htlur2
**Speed sensor- This goes in your “rear end” or rear final drive. It is where you fill the gear oil.
Put dialectic grease on the plug to make a water proof seal.
amzn.to/3VCnNqO
***Digital Speedometer/Tachometer/Odometor- I have not actually needed one yet but this fits the older style 500/700 Hisun,Powermax,Supermach,Benchee etc.

Thanks and ya I have about 2 or 3 racks here somewhere but since this video was taken a fellow I met camping gave me a nice small stainless steel rack. If I don’t lose it I’ll have it forever.

Awesome. Been waiting for this one. Just been too busy to sit down and watch it. Man I love your videos! The story telling and hearing your thoughts. I really enjoy it. It really reminds me of my own internal commentary. I think you and I think a lot alike. And the way you put these videos together. They're almost tailor made to my interest haha. A lot of people tell me I need to start my own youtube channel for my own adventures. I'm too self concious to share my thoughts, and I don't have any editing skills to be able to put a video together. Maybe I'm a little too lazy too. Idunno.. But I found a grown in trail this summer that reminded me a lot of your trails and I cut my way through most of it until I ran into an obstacle I couldn't pass. There used to be a bridge there I think. And I plan on going back and cutting it wider so my new sxs can fit. It's 4" wider than the old mule and I barely fit with that one. I figure I can build myself a bridge and be able to make it through. Utilizing this new trail, if I can get through, would save me at least an hour. Maybe an hour and a half, to get into the next mountain range over. Instead of having to go all the way down the valley to the bottom, across the next valley and into the next range that way. This would be so much better!

That’s a great comment and makes me even more motivated to keep going with them. Yes great minds think alike and you should do more videos. This is a big world with loads of people so there will always be someone out there that enjoys your stories. The editing thing is made easy by apps. I have always been into video making but never had the patience or knowledge to do it before smart phones came out. Now once you get into it it’s easy I have no doubt in my mind a guy like you would master it quickly. I’ve read your stories I can tell it will not be an issue for you. Yes keep those trails open for when I make my way out there! Part 6 coming up!

Gonna have to come up and start riding up there. I love breaking out the saw and cutting trail, almost as fun as riding. I ride a quad lately so maybe we’ll meet up one day just can’t justify the price tag on some new sxs’s.

@buildurtruckurway 91 ya sxs’s are crazy expensive these days aren’t they. I got this one dirt cheap otherwise i’d still have a quad I think.

@Corbvn I remember when I went from a sxs back to a quad. I was having a lot of fun. But then my dog got older and we needed the extra space and smoother ride of the sxs so that’s part of why I went back. I’ll probably get a quad project again and mix it up a bit.
