I wash weekly, first with a clarifying shampoo and then with a moisturizing shampoo. I do a hot oil treatment once a month, but do not otherwise use oils on my scalp. That has made all the difference. I spray daily with a mixture of Rosewater, aloe vera, and rosemary essential oil. Love your videos!

Thank you for your vulnerability. I have occasional dry scalp - when I was relaxing my hair, it was the WORST. Since I've been natural (over 10 years now, but loose natural, not loced), I've noticed my scalp has calmed down. Like you, I did NOT want the "snowy" effect in my locs that I'm starting this month. Thank you for raising the subject!

Thank you so much for being transparent on your journey. As a person new on my loc journey you are saving me from struggling later on. I was def. deep conditioning every time I washed my hair and now I am going to cut back. I also never thought I’d diluting the deep conditioner. Thanks for the tip!

I too have had eczema all my life. I no longer use oils in my scalp. I moisturize under a steamer and I only apply aloe Vera gel with peppermint oil to my scalp. Sis there is nothing wrong with using conditioner if it is working for you. I use it and make sure to rinse thoroughly. Your scalp looked great after your wash and conditioner. Do what works for you.

I use Neem shampoo on my hair & scalp. Using a toothbrush on your scalp while shampooing is awesome!

This is why I'm scared to get locs. I get these flakes too after 1-2 weeks of washing my hair. It's also important to note that "dry scalp" is often an OILY scalp that flakes over time (due to inflammation). For years, I treated "dry scalp" and it was actually an overproduction of SEBUM that turned into flakes, especially near the hairline. So if oil products make your scalp itch, that's often a sign. There's a BIG difference between dry scalp that is truly parched and flaky scalp from excess sebum. Looks like you have excess sebum and not necessarily dry/parched scalp. So many have the latter without realizing it so they apply oils, grease, etc. and makes it worse. When you mentioned the oils were the culprit, that's often a sign. I have this as well, so minimizing oil-based products and shampooing helps. Also scalp scrubs are great. I know mine is rooted in stress, so until I get that under control I'm gonna wait on the locs.

When my hair/scalp started getting flaky I decided to go the semi-free form method and was only retwisting every 3-4 months. That allowed me to wash whenever I felt the need because I wasn't focused on keeping my retwist looking good. Try to make sure your shampoo is Sulfate free and retwist with only water and oil.

MG217 shampoo helps out GREATLY!!! For me, I have flare ups when I sweat. It can easily be calmed with aloe vera juice, but then I would wash at the end of the week. In addition, a high carb diet causes it to flare up as well. Cutting out the pasta helped me go from 1 week without washing to 2 weeks...not to mention weight loss lol. Nice video!

Hi I have eczema as well..it’s true no amount of water combats the dryness. I’m on a Sisterloc journey and I’ve been using the sulfur 8 ointment and sulfur 8 solution. So far the combination of the two has been helping me. Neutrogena t-gel shampoo works for me as well. Thanks again for your transparency

I'm literally over here dying laughing at you looking like you're watching the video with us. But I have this issue with my locs too. I noticed that when I keep my locs moisturized it's not as bad. Also certain products I use to retwist make it worse.

Hi LC, thanks for sharing. I stopped using oil on my scalp and it has gotten so much better for me. I still moisturize with rose water and so far so good. I also wash once a week and work out.

What if rose water makes your scalp itch? I saw on another video that if you have eczema to try cortisone on the scalp.

I have this same issue. I try misting and oiling and it just drys out my scalp. I’ve actually scratched my scalp so much at the top the have fallen out. No matter how much I moisturize it,either makes my hair is still super dry and still itches. I don’t know what else to try.

@@chrystalcorlew7136 hi there! Sorry you’re having scalp issues. I think it’s worth trying a few different things to see what works for you. Try removing oil completely, try distilled water, glycerin, and essential oils (rosemary & tea tree), try pure water only. I hope you find relief soon!!

I personally like to do a very diluted apple cider vinegar rinse on my hair when I’m washing. I did this once a week during my loose hair journey so I knew it wouldn’t damage my hair while locked

i had this issue with my first set of locs which lead me to comb them out after a year and looking back now i wish i didn’t but everything happens for a reason so when i started my second set i was concerned that it would occur again i started researching and did some trail and error i found that my scalp does not like oil of any kind directly on my scalp once i stop putting oils on my scalp the problem stopped i wash my hair every week and deep condition every two weeks i do apply oil (grape seed and rosemary oil that i infuse myself) but only to the length of my hair i and i brush my locs this has helped me tremendously i’m currently 1 year and 4 months locd i hope this helps

Hi love! I suffer from the same issue and newly loc’ed. I’ve done my fair share of research and for anyone else also struggling, it looks like shampooing with any shampoo that contains Pyrithione Zinc or coal tar (1 or twice a week) helps favorably control scalp inflammation and dandruff. As far as moisture, I’ve bought pure vegetable glycerin on amazon which is a plant based natural moisturizer and humectant which means it draws water into the scalp, it’s odorless and tasteless. It’s definitely changing the way my locs and scalp feel! Already so soft and more hydrated.

I had scalp issues to the point I HAD to go see a dermatologist. She prescribed me ketoconazole shampoo and some scalp drops and that saved my scalp. I rarely get flakes now and I can go a little longer without washing. My scalp had a horrible smell also and it cleared right on up…NONE of the home remedies worked for me…I tried everything

Hi LC , I too am having the same issue to the front of my head and my hairline. I've cut out oils completely so they don't clump everything into my locs and I use aloe vera to moisturize after a wash. To keep my scalp from drying out I spary it with rose water in between. The only thing is my locs have a dull look when it's dry although it's soft. I'm yet to find something to fix that which doesn't irritate my scalp
@Brownmahfun

A vinegar soak on your locs will get rid of some of the stuck on sebum, that can dull some peoples hair.

It looks like you have seborrheic dermatitis. Most black folks have it because of all the Crap we put on our scalps. Most of the things we put on our scalp are not good for us. Also we could of developed an allergic or sensitivity months or years ago and it will resurface over and over again for years.
@quickpstuts412
@quickpstuts412 Жыл бұрын
Yep. It's also typically rooted in stress and diet. I stopped putting all products on my hair, except aloe vera gel and STILL had it. When your hormones are thrown off due to stress, too much sugar/carbs, etc. can make it worse.
