I started smoking when I was 13 and it lasted 43 yrs. I tried many times to quit. What worked for me was slowly cutting down never letting myself know I was quitting. It took about a year till I was smoking about 6 cigarettes a day for a month that I was able to go cold turkey. I've been smoke free for 8 years now. I know the struggle, keep strong and never give up. We belive in you.

Dude. It's a gauntlet. I've had every addiction except alcoholism.. I quit smoking the day I met my amazing partner. However that day I shared my second ever mead. 14% pear cinnamon methliglin.. Which after almost 20 years T Total sober minus a Christmas or Birthday mead I reached for alcohol as my smoking pangs kicked in.. The last 6 months I've battled the drinking and urges to smoke.. Keep going even if you do fall off the wagon. It's the journey to health which is our greatest asset that matters. From early videos to now your change has been amazing. From all the quits.. From experience.. Smoking was the hardest to give up. Harder than hard drugs.

Brian, I empathize with you. I quit smoking in the 1990's and I quit cold turkey. I'm sure I was irritable at work and with my friends. Psychologically, you are fine being grumpy. A big part of your life has been changed disrupting your happiness. The rituals we make when drinking, smoking, and even friendships we encounter have a profound effect on our irritability. Don't be concerned, because you know the tradeoff is worth the discomfort you feel today. Before you know it you will make new routines to replace the habitual ones from smoking and you'll be out of the tunnel.

I quit smoking about 7 years ago now. I smoked 2 packs a day for 15 years. I used the patches, and ate a ton of those red and white peppermints. Driving was the worst. I would always smoke while driving. I still get the urge today years later. I smoke the occasional cigar now. About 1 or 2 every couple of weeks. Good luck on your endeavor.

I've been there brethren! Quit smoking years ago. Don't underestimate the power of the breath, breathe in feel a relief - the deeper the better ! Drinking lots of water can help too, replace cravings for smoking with drinking fresh water a nice chug a lug will really get the body regulated. Exercise to curb the craving, is key, even if its a minute little plank or walk or jog on spot or anything to get the heart going, trust me you will feel better it helps balance our hormones. Also exercise can be used as a "punishment" when we notice ourselves acting "out of line" or frustrated / exasperated... These 3 things will have you or anyone feeling better within no time Proud of you man, stay strong!!! Blessings 🫀

PS Other things that could help, apple cider vinegar mixed in with water or lemon/lime juice, eating raw garlic, positive affirmations, art, lastly what I did was whenever i had a craving I would tell myself I don't want that is disgusting and is killing me, kept repeating something along those lines over and over until the cravings went away. YOU GOT THIS!

Keep it up! I haven't smoked so I also can't fully relate, but I feel like the bad sleep and cranky feelings will go away with time. It just takes a while for the body to re-adjust. Just keep on keeping on as they say lol

In 2006 I had my hip replaced. The surgeon informed me that quitting smoking 1 month before surgery would extremely improve the odds of successful surgery and full recovery. Even though I had smoked for over 41 years, major surgery was a darn good reason to stop. The morning I quit smoking, there were 3 cigarettes on my end table. I still have them. After not smoking for over a month I realized that I no longer wanted to smoke but I didn't even like smelling second hand smoke. Plus the money I saved was huge. I have followed you for over 3 years. You are a very smart and capable man. Quitting smoking will not only improve your health, but also your sense of taste and smell as well. Hang in there, I have confidence in you.

My observation is that if you're going to stop an addiction you need to replace it with something new. When I stopped smoking 46 years ago I increased my coffee intake to about a half gallon a day. Good luck, I'll be praying for Derica and you both.

As a past and current smoker that wants to quit again. I understand. Writing this as I’m taking a “smoke break” before my morning meeting 😩. Anyway I was just thinking that maybe the mind set that is making it harder for me right now is “hey, I’ve quit before and for long periods of time and at some point I started again. So why do I have to push myself hard at this moment?” Knowing good and well I should push harder and it’s not that easy even though I have done it before. Not sure that makes sense to anyone else though.

I am a rationalizer. I'm very very good at talking myself (and others) into things that I want or want to do. I rationalized my smoking for decades. I rationalized starting up again. I rationalized why I couldn't quit just yet. Then I started rationalizing why I don't need to smoke. Why it's a horrible idea. What it's doing to me, to Derica, to my relationship. Then I made the choice to quit. Point being, you have to find the reason for yourself. Then rationalize or debate yourself into doing it. It worked for me.

Cold turkey and never starting up again. That is what I did. It nearly drove me nuts for about 2 to 3 weeks. Then it got easier over time

All the toxins leaving your body definitely make you cranky, but you've made it a week, brother!! You can do it!! Derica obviously loves you or you'd have been a funny smell in the attic by now!😁

Hello Jerk, I’m A Dick as my wife says. Lol. I dipped snuff since I was 15YO. In 2012 I came down with B-cell lymphoma cancer in my spine. When I started chemo they asked if I smoked I said no. They said no tobacco? I told them I dipped snuff and they wouldn’t start chemo if I used ANY kind of tobacco. I figured: Dip or Die?? I quit cold turkey. Ugh it was rough but thanks to God I was able to stay off for 6 years. I understand, driving, I had to have a dip, after eating, had to. And lol even setting on the pot I had to. Sorry TMI. When I found my wife she had a 7 year old girl and I needed something. So I started the nicotine pouches and they work amazing.

After 30 years of smoking, I switched to vape. Like caffeine, nicotine is unfortunately a staple. Compared to smoking? Vape is a godsend. Is it better than quitting? No, absolutely not. But it can keep you going AND it has the ability to control and taper your nicotine intake until you get down to zero....but...it does nothing for the physical habit. And in fact enforces the physical habit. And in some ways? It makes it worse because it's like having a tasty bag of candy by your side all the time. Unlike smoking, it tastes very enjoyable, not just the chemical hit that is a happy thing. Edit: Good luck. I hope you can overcome the hurdle permanently.

Your addiction is trying to tell you, "You can't quit!" You know how you react to someone telling you that you can't do something. Just a few more days, my friend.

I've been there. Hang with it, brother. It gets easier the further you go. The trick (since you're past day 3) is going to be picturing yourself without your tobacco. As a non-smoker. But trust me, you'll be glad you quit. I smoked my last cig on April 10th, 2007. I really like the me without cigarettes that I've become accustomed to now.
