My explanation: (Keep in mind I don't know much about the game, though the 16×16 block glitch radius is what sparked the idea) The game tries to look for what blocks are in that chunk, but while it loads the chunk from while your in the overworld, it is also preparing for loading chunks in other dimensions. This confuses the game, and it will display air, since air is the closest thing to "null"; however, the game knows that there's supposed to be blocks there, and it does everything it can to fix it (via using pre-existing data), but there is no data to use, so when you place a block there, it uses that data to load the chunk.

I am a programmer and I can speculate. That Optifine is saving on memory by compressing 16^3 chunks that are all the same block (Air) into less data and so if you change one block, you change them all because - like with the whole glitch - for some reason client and server have become desyncronized and the client displays whatever state was last in memory (or maybe transmitted via the network just before changing dimensions). That also explains why a large TNT explosion fixes the terrain: It forces the client to reload the chunk from the server. It also explains why mobs seem unaffected: Their coordinates are synced seperately from the terrain and follow the true map on the server and not the corrupted version that the client displays.

Java programmer here - speculating on what may be happening (I may be wrong), I think when you first step into a portal it records the start time and starts 2 timers - one to start loading the world (shorter) and one to teleport you to that world (longer). When you quit and come back, the start time of the shorter timer for loading the world is reset to 0 or erased for some reason, so never completes, but the longer timer just starts again, and the world (End, nether etc.) remains in an unloaded/semi-loaded form where the method of storing data about it is different than if it had been loaded. The method of storing data being used I believe is to save space, and when these stored data are read by the client trying to load a properly loaded world, but reading unloaded world data, it reads whole sections of chunks as a single block type (hence the massive cubes). This is my best guess, would love to know what's truly happening here.

My explanation: The 16x16x16 cubes are actually sort of chunks of their own. The game splits up chunks into 16 high segments for easier loading. The reason things _really_ break (in my opinion) is that optifine (a _client-side_ mod) screws up something in relation to spawn chunks, allowing them to load in other dimensions. In normal game code, the list of chunks to render is kept in the world renderer, but I think optifine does some interesting caching of these chunks, so it saves them for loading quicker if you were to leave and re-enter a chunk quickly. As for the filling of 16x16x16 chunks though... all I can say is that optifine was reading chunk data from the middle of nowhere. TLDR: cache invalidation sucks.

It is possible that optifine removes some fail-saves in the rendering engine to insure that it loads faster, thus the over-world isn't deloaded correctly when you're traveling between dimensions. The 16x16 block that appears is probably also just the rendering engine glitching out

Something like this has happened a few times to me in heavily modded minecraft worlds. I don't have the best computer, and sometimes packs that are optimized really well can work perfectly fine except that they have random chunks that fail to load.

This cubes probably happen because the client is reading chunks from the overworld and blocks from the end don't contain lighting data. This also explains why the blocks are of basic types like stone which have a low id. Explosions may break these blocks because the client updates blocks around the explosion and the server knows that there are no blocks there.

The 16 by 16 blocks are randomly loaded when you enter a world, but they load up in whatever dimension you are in if they are still loading when you change, much like the blocks on the ground

part of ths glitch is something called sub-chunks. every chunk is divided into 16 sub-chunks, making 16x cubes. it seems the glitch replaces the bottom layer of sub-chunks with their overworld version, and erases almost everything above them. any block placed in 1 of these glitched sub-chunks, or blocks still remaining and not erased, seem to be rendered across the entire sub-chunk

the best thing is this glitch looks crazy without hamring your world since its only a load error.

I was able to walk on the Void. My "y" coordinates were -0.018 and I wasn't flying. Also I was able to knock down the tickrate and the rendering to almost 0 without effecting my movement and even keeping my fps >100. Also I think you're right about that bouncing effect. You start falling on client but every game tick (20 times/second) the server checks for your location and fixes it. These effects I have mentioned before were achieved by decreasing the server tickrate to almost 0 WITHOUT decreasing client's. This was achieved by overflowing the server with over 100k commands per tick. But the tickrate wasn't a total 0 so I kept being teleported to my spawnpoint from time to time. Ps I was testing it on modded 1.12.2 so the overflow may act differently on other versions.

I tried this and in the first world i made it didn't work, so i made a new one. When i got into the second world i heard the sound of going in a nether portal

Idk if im right, For me whats happening here is when you quit the world and go back again it will first render the chunks on the world that your currently in, the overworld, but just before finishin rendering you came into the end, and then the chunks in the overworld actually rendered in the end, and after that visual and physical properties of the end is really messed up, but if you look closely, the endermen are actually normal, because there entities, and there "naturally" "in" the current world, they do not need to be rendered because there in the world file, soooo the 16x16 cubic thing i think its when you got to the end then the first layer of chunks loaded, thats why there is that 1 by 1 stone floor in there, and minecraft thinks that, "oh this is the end imma stop rendering now" so now that minecraft knew that it was the end , The reason why the 16x16 happens is because the update, i'll explain it later why did the tnt made it back to normal? I guess its because the way of minecraft actually renders and loads chunks, if you didnt notice, before minecraft renders the chunk, they have a checklist, if you are on survival and explored a cave, and for instance ylu put the torch in the cave, the chunk where the torch is "updates" and then saves the chunk, when something "updates in the chunk the chunk loads back to normal, and since the last update is endstone, it becomes endstone, coming back to the 16x16 box, its because that it does not "know" whats in that chunk, minecraft chunks load like a virus and it spreads, you cannot load a chunk if the adjacent chunk of that chunk isnt loaded, so those 16x16 box doesnt have a chunk adjacent to them that are loaded, so it just loads the first update of it thats why the block you placed is the box that happens Phew wow thanks for reading these and thanks for the time, geez wow nice vid as always ant venom :))))

It reminds me of a time back in Beta Minecraft when one tried to walk on world holes in multiplayer (probably around 1.2_01). It's the same situation here, where the client and server are disagreeing on the location of the player, just as you said.

The 16x16 area is a chunk, a load section if you will, the reason it replaces all of the blocks with whatever was placed there is a chunk update clientside, since the server and the client are disagreeing with eachother it sides with the client and updates the chunk with whatever was placed.

I feel that you are correct on the argument taking place between server and client. The block formations should be explained by the argument as well.

I caused this to happen once by accident when playing with the cubic chunks mod. I had optifine installed, along with cubic chunks, and was flying around my world exploring some of the terrain, when suddenly a huge wall of what appeared to be misplaced chunks showed up in front me. It was like a checkerboard of half air and half cubes of stone like in this video, going as high as I could see out of the ground. But then if I went far enough away that it unrendered and then I came back, it was gone. After some tinkering around I discovered that all you need to do to make it happen when you want is just fly fast enough for the game to start lagging out and rubber-band you back, and it’ll cause this almost every time. It’s easiest to do on a server since servers will rubberband you very often if you go to fast. However if this bug does happen, and you’re playing with other people, only you can see it. You can go land on one of the cubes and stand on it, but to everyone else you’ll be floating because the bug is clientside only. Just thought I’d share this as I found it interesting.

The blocks are kinda like when I play on a server with a bad connections, breaking a block and walking there sometimes causes me to glitch back, and right clicking will cause the block to reappear, so probably server vs client problems

My theory: Optifine loads chunks in a different way than vanilla mc does and when a chunk load is queued and the player switches world's the new worlds chunks get priority and will get overwritten by the optifine queued chunks afterwards. So all blocks that appear in the end are ghost blocks. The chunks probably get corrupted in some way and optifine optimisation magic fills everything with that block when placed. For the explosions... I think the blocks just disappear because of the explosion (physics) and if more than 64 blocks change state in a chunk in one tick the whole chunk will be updated (that 64 blocks is a special vanilla rule, that exists for some reason). For the sand... I got no clue, it should just disappear if they really were ghost blocks, but that's not happening so maybe I'm completely wrong (or more optifine optimisation magic)

I can explain this partly. The server sees everything as usual. The client sees those extra / glitched out blocks. If you fill a 16x16 cube with 1 type of block by placing one, those are only client-side. Reloading the world makes everything okay again. This is kind of like blocklag.

One time, I stacked a nether portal chunk on a end portal chunk, and when I went into it, I saw floating nether islands stacked on to of each other with an ended dragon on top... That was AWESOME

Those cubes are made by the way Minecraft saves its chunks since the end is pure end stone, it will be saved as 16 by 16 endstone. But if you have never touched it, it re-runs the seed to see what it was when it is loaded in. When you update the block should turn into the original block for the end it was air and end stone. The explosions the right click are up dates, where mining is visual until broken.

The 16x16 cubeay have something to do with the distance compression between realms. Since 1 block traveled in the nether is 8 blocks in the overworld.

I think this has something to do with your overworld chunk. 16x16 is the size of a normal chunk, also the size of the giant blocks. If i am right, the glitch area should be 16 giant blocks long. This means 256 normal blocks. So, the glitched area is just a normal chunk, multiplied by 16. Did you know you can travel more blocks at the nether than in the overworld? Yes, I am saying this could be the reason. When you generate your world back, it is very glitchy. Do you remember not taking fall damage or creating infinite burning furnaces using the same trick? Yes, so I think the game tries to do strange things in your chunk, then you pop in into the nether, and then BOOM, the game gets crazy to understand what is going on and just creates your chunk, but made of chunks. Also, the mobs are normally moving around because your client loaded the chunk, so i think this doesn't work in multiplayer. Optifine can be very glitchy sometimes. I don't know anything about the game coding, so anyone could tell me if i am thinking in the right way?
