Im a teen, and i absolutely love your channel. My mom and I deep cleaned my bedroom a couple months ago, and i rearanged my bedroom so i could see more of the floor. I found out that i have hoarding tendencies because I have both Autism and ADD. I keep things for projects and completely forget I have them. With my room being cleaned ive found ive been doing a lot better, and these videos keep me aware of what i do and dont need. I appreciate you sharing your journeys as you clean :D

I always remember watching an episode of Hoarders, where the guys house was far worse than this, and the therapist asked him what 5 items he would grab if his house was on fire. He said his glasses, his medication, his car keys, his wallet and his cat. The look of realisation on his face after he answered her was something else. I hope this person finds her moment of realisation. Great video as usual 👌 👍 👏

I’m autistic. ( I know you are.) I’m really good at lifting/carrying/moving things that are heavy and hurting myself. In my family we lovingly call it “stupid strong”. In my case my muscles can handle a lot more weight than my bones/joints can. So without thinking (stupid) I snag up heavy things and take off with them and knock joints out of place and cause myself other injuries. Take care of yourself, you are the only you that you get.

You're a saint. My mom passed six years ago and though her house was very clean and uncluttered looking, it was because she managed to cram everything into closets, under the bed, the garage, etc. Her hobby was buying in bulk and I also found things from the time of my childhood that she kept like old pots and tools. Needless to say - I treasured most of it and now my house looks like a second hand store. I have a lot from my grandmother too. Wish me luck, as I now understand most of it will have to go away and free my mind and house. PS. I would call myself a collector of memories, but I have to move on.

Hope you feel better soon. Tough job to do. I grew up in a hoarder house. It’s a challenge for those who live in it. The only clean room was my room, the kitchen and the TV room. A year before my mom died, I just bit the bullet and cleared it all away (the hoard) while my mom was in the hospital. She was able to come home because her home was clean! She thanked me not long before she died. She had a clean home and people would come visit again. I hope this woman gets better and part with the hoard and live a better life.

I helped my 20 year old niece clean her bedroom. When I started, there was no floor showing due to the clothing (clean and dirty) as well as dirty, smelly, hairy doggy bed linens all over everything. I took three 40 gallon black garbage bags of clothes out of there, one of which was filled exclusively with tiny mismatched athletic socks. The other two bags were filled with hoodies. Hundreds of hoodies. We could have opened an outlet store.

I have to admit, I thought the same thing. I've known people like this who have binge-purge cycles, almost like hoarder bulimia. They hit a purge point, and then see all that open space, and get even more stuff to fill it. I hope this family makes the progress they need to avoid that.

@@jcortese3300 I lived with a person with hoarding tendencies and every time I cleaned off the kitchen table so there was enough room for me to eat breakfast, she'd go out and buy a whole bunch of food she couldn't eat and completely cover the table with it. I don't know why they have the urge to fill empty space, but they do. I think the empty space does make them feel happy because it feels like things are more under control, but then they ride that wave to make a bunch of purchases to make themselves even more happy, and, well, quickly ruin it.

The stuff you said at the 6-minute mark just hit me. My partner's family is in that scenario. Hoarding is mostly mom's fault, but then a single sibling has added to the hoard, MOVED OUT, and left their hoard, so it's a combo hoard. The other siblings are minimalist as heck, they all thought they had a ton of stuff until they moved out and realized they own basically nothing and keep a tidy house. I'm cleaning my partner's half of the house right now and they live bare bones, even more so now after we clean the leftover sibling hoard. Other items siblings want but can't physically reach because of the hoard. There's an entire sewing desk under all the hoard that is useful, valuable, and wanted and nobody can reach it.

I used to do Spiritual Readings. One thing I discovered, was that some of my clients had hoarding tendencies or non-cleaning habits. As they were renters, they'd have annual landlord inspections. They'd literally hire me to just sit there and bear witness as they removed bags of garbage, then detail clean their home so they wouldn't get written up or evicted. The clients that were on disability I wouldn't accept money from. They'd buy me a soda, and one demanded to buy me breakfast at a pancake place. Love people, be kind to each other, and spread peace in your world. We have such a short time here.

Thank you for explaining the different type of preppers! I am a prepper, and had a stockpile of 18 months realize that that was too big for my household and we’ve wiggled it down to a manageable three month stock up! Mainly in case, anything happens with a job loss or if the winter is too bad, and we can’t get out will be all right! I have done the Swedish death cleaning four times in order to get rid of most of the things in my house, and I was able to downsize by 85%! If we don’t like it love it or use it it went out of the house no questions asked! We now have a much more easy manageable house. It’s not a minimalistic way, but it’s minimal lysing my way and clean up now is super easy to clean the house and maintain it! I don’t have a lot of clothing anymore. We got rid of a bunch of it. I never was in a hoarding level but I was in a level that it was hard to keep the house clean because I had three babies in diapers at the same time! And I over bar on things such as their baby clothing and baby toys, and things of that nature my kids are now teenagers and it’s much more manageable to keep things in check! Absolutely love what you do. Hope that you get to feeling better soon.

I am a prepper too but not to that extent but after living in the same house 28 years and having a husband who saved stuff and sadly just passed away today I am keeping myself busy by starting to throw away bags and bags of stuff and getting totes from my sister in the next few days to list on ebay or FB Marketplace things that are not useful. I can't believe I've filled up 2 garbage cans already. We have a lot of items that are now "Vintage" that my husband hung on to "Just in case" I won't blame it all on him but it's definitely time to get rid of things that are not being used. He told me when I'm gone you can do what you want with it. My sister will come over and help me clean once we get everything out of here.. it's not hoarder stacked for sure but way to much for a small 672 square foot house. And I have enough food to last probably a year now with it just being me and my dogs. Anna In Ohio

Oh no, so sorry you hurt your shoulder and hope it heals quickly. I give you so much credit for taking the time to nicely fold things instead of just tossing them in totes, that shows how much you care and respect their items. I’d like to see more info on this type of hoarding, aka apocalypse type hoarding, sounds very interesting. Great job!

Take care, Two-Tub Power Lifter Johnny from Austin ☮️ I watched a UK show on hoarding where a woman transferred her mothers entire hoard to a warehouse! She sorted it by type (shoes, clothes, kitchen, mementos, furniture, etc) with a mountainous trash pile in the corner (wrappers, empties, food etc) She then cleaned, repaired, painted her mothers home so it was sound, empty and functional. When her mother saw the enormity of the hoard as well as her home as she’d not seen it in some time, it was very powerful. It was the most radically transformative, productive method I’ve ever seen regarding a hoarding situation. Usually the hoarder puts up resistance and every item has to be touched and gone over, it seems excruciating for all involved! I wish the Dr Pepper Hoarder all the very best on her journey 🕊

As the child of a hoarder, I can’t attest to the endless struggle of dealing with a hoarder. I’d attempt to clean while my dad was home, but it was just a lot of yelling about not throwing anything out and not touching his “things”. It’s disheartening. Move hundreds of pounds of unused junk, scrub and clean and then have to put all the junk right back on top of it again. Each time, it would just become an argument (Nobody “needs” 47 empty margarine containers Dad, nobody). If I did manage to get rid of something, he’d replace it with 3 more if the same thing. Repeat this process for a decade or two, and yes, the children of hoarders give up trying to help them. I did just stop trying. For my own sanity’s sake, I had to.

That’s so sad. I wonder how you can get through that some things are truly just trash and has no use to anyone, like there must be a distinction even for hoarders that some things are trash?
@fionafiona1146

@@nightsgrow6575 the first 20 empty magerine tubs aren't necessarily trash, it's the other 30. There are people who make such a distinction but most have aspirations to use things or others who can't fathom the parting with items so empty wrappers become an item in their mind.

This gave me anxiety, not exactly sure why. Thinking one reason is knowing that you injured your shoulder. Twice. This coming from someone who has needed a shoulder replacement for two years, but keep putting it off because I’m a big scaredy-cat. 🫤When I watch you organize, I always think to myself you make it look so easy. But when I’m standing in front of my “stuff“ it feels impossible. I am in therapy and do feel like I’m getting closer to a breakthrough. Thank you Mr. Whoever you are this week Johnny! ☺️♥️ You Rock! 🤘🏼

Oh my. This video makes me want to purge my clothing closet which is organized by color, sleeve length etc. Most haven't been worn since my son shot himself in 2019 (caused my weight loss of over 60 lbs) and retiring from a professional insurance agent in Dec 2021. I've gone from an XL to a S/M due to stress. I just hate to throw perfectly good clothing out and I'm not a fan of dealing with garage sales for clothes. Thank you so much for these videos. Every video you do leads me to do so many purges in my home.

As someone who's dealt with trauma, id encourage this woman to look into EMDR. It's an incredible type of therapy that can heal in one session something that could take 3 months in traditional talk therapy. It completely changed my life, and is appropriate for all types of trauma. She'd just need to work with a certified therapist. Regardless, I hope she keeps healing 💜

I will say that it's ironic when people want to comment negative things about the people who need your help because by viewing and engaging, it lines your pockets more so you can help more people. So if I were a hoarder and worried about getting free help because people on the internet might say awful things, it's actually kinda relieving to know that that negativity actually fuels this positive act you're putting into my home.

Mr. Magic, God Bless You. The service you provide to people is just incredible. I do hope you are feeling better. I have encountered severe hoarding in my job, over the years, and have some hoarders in my family. One I encountered had a room where you could not enter, it was literally floor to ceiling stuff. It appeared that it got to the point where she just stood in the doorway and chucked stuff into the room. Yes, it is a mental illness and it is much more common than anyone would ever think. Take care and rest up so your shoulder heals.

When you constantly feel like you are not safe, do not have enough you prioritize spending on stuff over experiences. How much do you spend on a night out with friends? Stopping for coffee? On junk you throw out routinely. You probably have had just as much clothing but regularly clear out your closets and donate stuff. Hoarders keep everything, a lot of that stuff is from long ago. Stuff can be from parents who passed away for instance. They would keep it because it's good in their eyes and once valued by someone they cared for.

To the family in this video- you can do it. You. Can. Do. It. You can start picking out the most favorite beautiful things and start setting some items free. I have been in a place where life was so stressful I would come home and barely manage basic tasks. Then as family members passed away, items came to my place to sort. Then we didn't know my grandpa's house also had my mom's things that relatives took as I was young when she passed. There also was a mystery storage unit. It can be incredibly overwhelming and there are times where you say screw it. You have a great resource with MMC, you all can keep at it, bit by bit. Big hugs!

My question is, how does a hoarder stop purchasing items so that the work you have done for them and the progress made is then disrupted by more items entering the house. If it is a yr or 2 before she can start letting go of things, that is a lot of time to add more items into the house.

This hits close to home for me too, because I am the clothes hoarder. And my husband hoards books and games, so we're doomed 😂. But after we came close to evacuating for a wildfire last year, I feel differently about my stuff. Now I look at the extra stuff as fuel for a fire. So I'm getting rid of a lot of things, but it's very hard to get my husband to let go of anything. Good luck to you guys.☘️
