Love your story, Antoinette. I met a Kiwi girl in Sydney in 1971, we fell in love, married in Sydney, when we were expecting our first child, we moved back to her native Hastings. She died 11 years ago. I am still in Hawke's Bay, albeit rural. Like you, I have been to the Havelock North bar where you met your love. Btw, don't let anyone tell you that your German isn't anything that excellent. All the best to you and your lovely family. .

Darling, it was the best wedding I have ever been to....Your mum, your sister from New York who was very pregnant at the time, your other Kiwi friends and myself could not speak German or Polish, your guests from Germany and Poland could not speak English. The reception was in the basement of an Italian restaurant with candles, mirrors and flowers, boy, can the Polish people know how to "party"..,....we didn't need to speak the same language, it was amazing, beautiful and unforgettable. Your poor husband was so ill we didn't think he would make the wedding. Have to say your mother-in-law was so organised it all went without a 'hitch'.....love to do it all over again. I remember you being locked out of your hotel on your wedding night and had to spend it back with your In-laws.....so many wonderful memories......thank you for sharing your special time with your Aunty who adores both of you. Thank you so much for sharing your story! I've been watching your videos for quite a while and they gave me hope that long distance relationships can actually work out. I'm from Germany and met my Kiwi boyfriend during my last two weeks in New Zealand. We liked each other so much, that he decided to join me on my last little roadtrip. When I had to leave the country I was so heartbroken. Everybody at home told me that I should just get over him, since we were so far away from each other, we hadn't known each other for long and it would never work out anyway... I ignored what everyone said and got a job in order to save up money. I ended up visiting him two more times until university started. After my second visit we couldn't see each other for 6 months and it was terrible. So terrible that he moved to Germany in March. I get to wake up next to him every day and I feel so lucky. We've been together for two years now. No idea what we'll do once his visa runs out since I want to finish my studies, but I'm sure we'll figure it out. :)

That is incredibly adorable!! I got to know a guy from the US (I am Italian) back in 2001 (I was 18 and he was 19). I was helping a friend to set up an ICQ account so she could improve her English. Long story short: found this guy whose nickname was spelled wrong, and I sent him a message teasing him for it. He replied to me and we started chatting. I then set up ICQ on my computer too, so that I could keep chatting with him. We liked each other.. a lot. In December 2002 he came to Italy to visit and they were the most memorable 9 days of our lives. Then we kept having a long distance relationship, seeing each other only twice a year, until he graduated and he moved to Italy in May 2006. He too could not stay unless we got married. He had proposed back in 2004 so we were actually engaged already. Well: on the 9th of May he came, and on the 20th of July of the same year we got married. He then got also the Italian citizenship and it's been 15 wonderful years (in a little bit). I totally loved your love story... makes me think of mine (with all the clear differences of course)

Almost the same experience. We met at the end of his working holiday visa in Australia, and I was finishing a teaching degree. I followed him to NZ to give us more time to figure out where the relationship would go, and then we returned to Australia for the past few years. We recently decided to move to Germany and after researching our options, getting married was right one. We have been together the last 6 years, and just married last month. Looking forward to our new life in Germany in September. Thanks for sharing your story. Any advice on registering residency and my first 3 months?

Kirra Watt Aww your story does sound very singing to ours! ❤️ After I was married German Immigranten made me complete a 6 month intensive Immigranten/language course and I had to pass my B1 German exam before I could apply to residency. The process was much more complicated than I was expecting but it all worked out in the end. I’m hoping things will be easier for you.

A true love story. Your eyes really shine and sparkle when you talk about it which makes me really happy for you. Thank you to your mother who knew you so kindheartedly and gave you the courage to continue the relationship. But there is still one question. When your friend revealed to you that he was German with Polish roots, you said that he didn't look like a German or a Polish to you. What were your thoughts about what a typical German or Polish person would look like? 🧐

Hi Antoinette, I follow you now since a while (old bavarian here) and I enjoy your stories, as I can say, you have a very much "british" accent, no american in between, well I am curious how you and your family get anlong. I startet this year with discovering youtube in a more intense and private way and see how many interesting stories there are, before I just looked for homeworking tips and so, now, you are nice and I like your stories, keep on going 😍👍

Similar story with my wife and me. My parents took me from our home country to Germany when I was ten years. When I turned eighteen I met a girl, we married four years later (lived in Würzburg while studying biology from 1792 to 1980) and here we are. Golden wedding in two years. Cross my fingers for you and Rob for the next forty.
