Absolutely perfect comment. It's funny that he's so oblivious about the significance of having hand-picked Gurkha soldiers with him. They literally are the ideal bodyguard in a warzone and he's totally oblivious and worried about not having his bodyguards. The narrative earlier on of slapping a bodyguard totally stood out too. The bodyguard would have had the ability to kill Harry if he wanted to and he's probably some kind of ex special forces guy but of course Harry goes and disrespects him like that and thinks it's something to be proud of. Boasting about not dropping to the ground when gunshots rang out was the absolute icing on the cake.

Harry is hugely minimising his relationship with Chelsy and he's lying again. Chelsy spent a good deal of time with him in England as she has a second home in London. She had already met and been accepted by the Royals and remains a close friend of Princess Catherine. She left Harry because he was a serial cheater and she realised he would never change, at least not for her. Chelsy chose not to settle and good for her.

I simply cannot comprehend a British officer casually dismissing his Ghurka body guards as his "groupies". They are storied warriors of legend, totally fearless and ferocious against huge odds they have earned deep respect from special operations groups world wide. For the younger generation imagine have five real John Wicks guarding his worthless carcass to the the death. What a full blown bloody clot.

I am so glad you knew about the job of the Ghurkas. They are the finest soldiers and the most loyal regiment of the military and yes that´s why their job in Afghanistan was to keep the Dimwit alive come what may.

Harry loves to go on as if he’s the ONLY person to experience trauma, and see horrific things. Let’s not forget the years Prince William (thank FUCK he was born first) worked for years as a search & rescue pilot, and then as an air ambulance pilot. He saw some horrendous things, including grievously injured children who were pronounced dead in his helicopter as he was desperately trying to get them to hospital as fast as he could. Harry literally has the emotional maturity (and IQ) of a teaspoon.

Hearing his assessment of Chelsey makes me so sad for her. It must have been so hard being Harry's girlfriend because he needs a mom too. And if you love the person enough, you're willing to take the circus surrounding them if it means you get to be with that person. I'm sure Catherine wasn't thrilled to be tossed into the public eye every waking second. But she loves William, and if that's part of William's life, then she'll put up with it.

The British public loved Chelsy. Chelsy dumped him and this was Harry settling scores with her. As we have come to learn, Harry keeps a record of every slight he has suffered and takes his revenge. He is also mad Chelsy went on to live the life he wanted to live with her, all by herself. She has a safari business in Botswana and a jewellery company. She made it happen as soon as she dumped Harry and before she got married and started a family. She still lives in London. While Harry is stuck in L.A, living Meghan Markle´s dream.

The sad part of this whole fiasco is Harry did have that chance to make something of himself for the position he was in by highlighting the wounded men and women returning back from the battlefields. That was imo his true calling. Seeing his mindset as a royal, it makes me wonder if he was able to continue his royal role even if he never met Markle as he exposed his warped ungrateful attitude. But I think Harry had that chance to heal the bitterness in himself by being in the company of these wounded soldiers, while he didn’t have that chance to experience the same combat these men and women faced, he was in a significant position to help them when they returned home. It’s said that Harry admitted to feeling scared he was going to be lost in history because he was slowly going down the line of succession to be deemed important when if he stuck by with the grace of having faith of his nephews and niece someday become working members, Harry still would have played a large role of appreciation that no one would have forgotten if he dedicated his focus to those soldiers like he promised. There’s a lot of people Harry let down, his family and country, but mostly those soldiers that were lucky to have that foundation of support to aid them. Now, Invictus has been tainted in association with Archwell Foundation that runs as a charity that is not transparent with the funding and where the money goes. There is a chance that Invictus could be used to line the Harkle’s pockets.
@neilsun2521

The Invictus Games was Harry's chance to do something genuinely virtuous and empathic. Which has now been replaced by virtue signalling and transactional empathy with Meghan's Archwell Foundation.

Harry admitted to feeling scared that he would be lost in history when his nephews and niece were born. If true doesn’t that say all you need to know about this person. Not “my life’s work will be lost in history” not “my achievements will be lost in history” no - my position of importance, my privileged person will be lost in history because my brother started a family. Poor old Harold.

Harry did a good thing with Invictus-had he stayed on that trajectory he’d have likely been fulfilled & made a difference. But-enter Meghan Markle. Why she EVER gave speeches at Invictus is beyond me & so annoying. Can’t Harry have anything that’s just his? She’s not a veteran-she’s not even a military wife. Chelsy didn’t want to marry HIM. She got sick of his rages and tantrums, and got the hell out.

I don’t know why he was ever in the Army if it was such a risk. Harry was always impulsive and a huge party goer, but his arrogance is so out of control and this book is to minimize his bad choices and blame everyone else. Never ever takes accountability! Just like Netflix, The Cut, Oprah. The book sounds boring (unless you’re covering it!) and self-indulgent. And he says he has another book in him?? That one will be all about how terrible the RF is and how he and Meghan are just now starting their true love story.

Love love love your takes! I don't know much about the military so that perspective is so useful. Harold has previously been given some grace in this country because of his service and that he was a bit naughty. But based on what has come out in this book etc, the RF did a great job of making him look better than he is in private. He's a perpetual lost boy, caught up in his own importance and no strong core. Picking up on his language collection really shows that point well. Love this series!

It’s insulting the way he thinks that just because HE was ignorant of the war and it’s effects, that everyone else was too. It was unpopular in the US and the UK. It was protested and heavily covered. I would even argue that it was MORE unpopular in the UK because 9/11 had nothing to do with the UK and they only went in as allies. Idk about the UK but in the US there were constant running tallies of dead and wounded. Blair saw his approval tank while Bush’s soared. And the irony doesn’t click for him that he accused his family of having all the papers laid out because “they’re obsessed with stories about themselves” and not because they had to be conscious and aware of current events.

As a child, like everyone else, I called the little local corner shop, the "Paki shop" I wasn't aware it was meant to be a derogatory name. To me it was a good thing, the Paki shop was always open, even when on Sundays and national holidays everything else was shut... (Yes I am that old ). If you really needed something you could always get it at the Paki shop, even on Christmas Day ❤️🇬🇧 I don't recall ever hearing anyone call a person a Paki, only the shop.... It's odd how you look at things as a child. For example my most beloved doll was a Golliwog. To me it was a mythical creature like an elf or a unicorn. I had no idea it was meant to be an actual black person. It was just my golly and I loved it..... Oh and incase any one isn't clear, I refuse to be ashamed about any of this. I was a child and it was my world. Your world changes as you become an adult, in some ways growing wider and in others narrower. You cannot take responsibility or feel guilty for things you had no understanding of or control over, and that includes world history.... You can only ensure your behaviour once an adult is inclusive and non judgemental....

The excuse of Chelsy leaving him because of the media is an excuse for his own failures. Notice that he never mentioned what went wrong. Yes, she was a party girl and she was in her early 20s as well? He partied hard as well. Will managed to find a girl who wanted to go the distance with him. Now Chelsy is a lawyer and an entrepreneur, got married and had a son and lives a very normal life out of the spotlight. Harry wasn't worth the squeeze. She realised he was a man child. Edit: About the slur, I live in the UK and when I was learning English, that was one of the first words I learned ro never say. You just don't call them that. Period.

I disagree about not asking people about personal things. Sometimes people are shy or don't want to burdon us so they don't share. I think we should incourage ppl to share more

When it comes to Chelsey I feel that she is the lucky one that got away. I mean, look at the awesome life she is living right now. Really dodged a bullet there with Harold. I think for every girlfriend Harold had, it is as you said, if he really were this awesome guy, they would have put up with the pressure and public life for his sake. But having to deal with the press and Harolds shitty personality and the toddler tamper tantrums? No deal. In a way I guess it is good that Harold and Rachel got together, they deserve each other and with them together that means that two other people escaped a very miserable life.

Yes, look at Catherine. Her phone was hacked around 200 times by the press, she was hounded & stalked after they left St Andrews. But William - and she - were on a trajectory of maturing, had similar values and loved one another. She put up with a TON to be with him, but decided it was worth it bc HE was worth it. Now they have a lovely family and seem to adore one another 20 years after they first met.

Hey, I think you are on to something. Harry should create his own news agency. That way he can have reporters turn in stories about how hard done by he is. Oh wait, He has the BBC the Telegraph and People magazine for that. How could anyone read this book and think that Harry is a good person?

Maybe it was more of his reaction to the press and how crazy it made him but you could’ve just been because he was lacking in other emotional areas, etc.

I think he was more in love with Chelsea than he’s stated. It is my thought he wrote all of this for Meghan’s concern/ benefit. OR SHE WROTE IT !!!! He probably told her it was a “ nothing” relationship. She seems she would be completely difficult and irrational concerning such matters , she would need to be the ONE N ONLY. Chelsea is a smart young lady had she known she was marrying a prince she would have picked up her socks . It is my belief she didn’t pick up her socks because she didn’t want him, the drama or the life. He was probably fun to party with. She is a lawyer now, married with her own family. So she was capable of changing FOR THE RIGHT PERSON/REASON. Harry was right about Granny. If she did not approve the marriage would not happen, nor would the person be included in royal fold . It took Catherine years to be included and to meet Granny .

Why he liked the army so much is this, AND the Royal family but he hasn't made that connection yet), He is told when to get up, when to get ready, where to go, what to do, he has plans made for him, so basically he's just following what everyone wants him to do. Cut loose and on his own he's like a lost puppy, he doesn't know what to do with himself, one of the reasons Mag Again got such a hold on him, he needs a strong woman, but one who has HIS interests at heart, not her own. Go back to Africa Harry, build schools, help war veterans, DO something with your life.

I don't think Harry was trying to draw any meaningful analogy between Tiggy/Sandy and the Taliban. As a Brit, I read that as an attempt to be humorous because the gap between the two is so obvious. It wasn't side-splittingly funny, but I can see what he was trying to do.

I have to differ with you about the impact of racial slurs. Yes, it does show how shallow the user is. But when derogatory words and stereotypes about a group become normalized and tolerated they fan the fire of bigotry. It also emphasizes to members of that group that the majority really do not see them as equal, worthy or deserving of basic respect. It's just a word but words do convey how the user has learnedt to see others.

I see what you’re saying, but my point was more to the fact that speaking in terms of “groups” is ineffective because groups are made up of individuals. Group thinking can’t be driven by a hive mind in humans as in bees or ants but on the individual perspective of enough of those group members working to shift the collective idea. So, if enough people individually decided that racial slurs were nothing more than stupid sounds uttered by silly people and chose not to get angry, but more importantly refused to take on the slur as in anyway truth, we could shift the racial conversation. But anger and outrage makes people feel alive, so we tend to lean into those things that give us sensation even if it’s counterfeit. There’s no reason to care if someone calls you a racial slur, that will forever and ever their problem, not yours. And when those words stop working, we can finally move on and do something more interesting with in our public conversations.
