Cotton takes the blame for burning the church down.
King of the Hill - S03E21 Revenge of the Lutefisk
Arlen's new minister is a woman, which everyone except Cotton seems to accept. When Bobby eats all of a Midwestern fish dish prepared by the minister, it somehow leads to him accidentally burning down the church. Everyone assumes that Cotton did it, and he is arrested for a hate crime.

Sometimes she would do stuff like this and it would be awesome, but sometimes she would completely miss the mark. Kind of like in that one episode where Luanne moved in with that weird pig farmer guy. She genuinely cared about Luanne but Peggy was standing on a pedestal and not allowing Luanne to make her own decisions or learn organically. All while insisting that Peggy herself was always in the right as Luanne's teacher in that episode, even when it effected Luanne negatively or went too far.

John Redcorn isn't a heartless sociopath. Adultery is wrong but early series Dale is a negligent husband in a lot of ways. (Dale only became an attentive husband as he grew as a character. At first he ignored her for 12 hours a day to research conspiracy theories in his basement.) Comparing John Redcorn to Buck Strickland, who rips off his customers and steals gambling money from his workers' coffee fund, or Cotton, who emotionally and verbally abused his son for years, is absurd. Fans who just identify too closely with Dale for sad reasons are insecure about cucked by a handsome American Indian chad.

@@user-xs5bl9dy6d I think that cotton understand he made a series of mistakes toward hank but his stubborn inability to lose a fight means he could never concede that. Because Bobby was a blank slate he could start a new "campaign" if you will and he puts that stubborn abrasiveness to use. It fits his sort of method of operations. Like how he can tell which race is what just by looks alone when most people can't. If he's going to declare war he is going to know his target and I think that is what happened with hank. But admitting he lost, admitting that he started an ill conceived campaign. Admitting that life isn't some sort of fight in every circumstance just forces him to retreat and try to desperately start a fight. I think that what he does when he see hank. He see him and it's like "shit. Feelings" and so instead he comes up with the most stupid stuff and acts douchey to start a fight. Because those are grounds he knows. I mean, I think this is shown when he literally declares that "everyone hated that baby" when talking about hank. He just can't NOT fight and with bobby he's become a wiser, older man and trying to put that giant flaw to some good use before he's gone. I feel like cotton is a good character. He's very flawed and he gets older he wants to put those flaws to use, but he's also so entrenched, so molded by them at this point that he isn't sure how to change. Maybe he thinks because of his age he CAN'T change.

Nah he loves Bobby more than he loves the rest of his family. Hank wanted Bobby to tell the truth to the authorities while Cotton wanted to keep Bobby from being punished. I think cotton is like this only with Bobby is because deep down he knows that he failed as a father, so he doesn't want to make the same mistakes with Bobby. This also supports my theory that Cotton doesn't hate Hank, he's disappointed in him.

Cotton Hill hated everything and Everybody but the few things he genuinely loved and showed his human side to were Bobby, Good Hank and Myoko the Japanese woman he knocked up during the war. It's what makes Cotton both a believable character and a great one. Such a great and hilarious character in the same vein as Archie Bunker, Fred G. Sanford, George Jefferson, Frank Barone and Arthur Spooner.

Say whatever you want about cotton being a horrible father but as a Grandfather, he’s a damn good one. His demeanor changed the second he found out Bobby was at-fault and how his life would be ruined if he were to confess. Let’s face it, cotton was in his late 70’s at the latest so it’d be very hard to imagine they’d give someone that age any prison time. Cotton was willing to take the fall so Bobby could continue to live his life. Cotton is a damn good grandfather!

These characters constantly lie to others and never reveal the truth. Everyone letting Dale and Joseph think they’re father and son and Nancy didn’t have an affair, Luanne thinking her dad owns an oil rig, Peggy telling Hank that Cotton’s final words on his death bed were loving words about him, Hank protecting Dale from getting arrested for burning down a fire station, and here, Cotton taking the fall for Bobby’s accidental arson.

@@lg6884 yeah, none of thats really racist, first of all minorities do tend to be in servant like positions, and lets be fair 95% of politicians say the same shit about mexicans and asians and the sort too(saying if we dont import them who will clean our toilets and nonsense). He gave enough of a damn to recognize what khan was instead of just calling him Japanese or chinese like everyone else does. Tojo is only a mild insult at best as far as im aware its about same level as calling someone a yankee, hillbilly, redneck, or some other minor offense in america, its a bit offensive but i dont think they really care. holding a grudge against a company that made the planes that fought against you in a war sounds like a pretty damn reasonable argument. Also he has a japanese son if you remember so he clearly doesn't hate the japanese. At worse cotton is mildly racist. although i dont think i can really remember him insulting anything about the japanese or other races in specific, just saying he dislikes them, or insulting them for being on opposite side of the war.
