this is me. I am this person's mentality. my car failed inspection and needed a new set of tires. just before month end, so the 1600 I planned to put toward our long term savings goals was reduced to 650. I was depressed and my wife talked some sense into me, that we are lucky enough to be young, healthy, debt free, have stable employment to cover life's mishaps, and still be able to finish the month with a budget surplus! I needed that talk badly and this call reinforced that

I was brought up with money and then the rug was completely pulled out from under me as a 10 year old. I went from one side of the tracks to the other side of the tracks. Fast forward....I'm 65 now and even though I am in excellent financial shape, I still worry about money even when I don't need to. When that happens, I just take inventory and laugh at myself and I literally tell myself to stop worrying................until the next time. It just is what it is. Some events in life are ingrained in your psyche and it can be very difficult to eradicate them. Just keep moving forward.

I've always had savings and emergency fund since high school. What little emergencies I did have became more like inconveniences as the years went by. Never anything to worry about especially being debt free.

I can REALLY relate to this. I grew up so poor, and had to live with grandparents and even friends while in High School. I always worry about money. My emergency fund has an emergency fund but I still worry. I always feel like I don't have enough money and/or I am spending too much money.

Following Ramsey created a scarcity mindset in me which is why I had to stop. I was constantly worried and paranoid about money. A mentor of mine told me to just start giving to others and it took away a lot of that scarcity mindset and made me get away from the love of money.

I have the same problem! I worked So Hard and long to get out of debt and build up my emergency fund as a single, older person. I recently had to dip into it for a sewer repair issue. Tho I was very grateful to have it- it immediately caused a scarcity mindset that troubled me to have to take away a portion of my security.

Money was so tight for me as a kid and then again when I got out of college for a few years. Now even though my husband and I have a fully funded emergency fund I still struggle with the scarcity mindset. I have to remind myself often that we have what we need and of all the times God has provided what we needed.

David Bowie had the same problem (and so do I). I was in the car listening to the radio a few years before his death and he started to talk about this exact problem. That he still worried about money, but that this concern includes people increasingly more distant from him. It was a problem he just lives with that he blamed on being brought up working class. His words helped me a lot. I could have a 100 million and I would still be poor in that place in my mind.

This is why I'm never getting married lol. I used to work with a guy that was slated to retire in two years, wound up taking half of everything, pension, 401k, had to sell his house, etc. Guy is still working, and all this was 10 years ago. All that risk for what? No thanks. Nobody is worth taking that risk.

@@musicpro7278 One thing I don't do is play around with the IRS. I also have a Roth and pretax IRA just for trading to avoid paperwork and tax issues. Developed a nice Dividend Achievers portfolio in my taxable brokerage accounts for early retirement income. I hired one the best CPA firms in my area to handle things. My CPA even check my social security statement each year for accuracy among other things.(and he found mistake twice since the 90s) I set my retirement income to $90k/yr. and in 12% tax bracket. Never realized how important it was to have a pretax IRA account until I retired. If I had used my taxable account for trading the past two years I would be in 32% tax bracket. Bought $3k shares Devon Energy(live in Oklahoma) under $6 in the 90s and look at her go.

When sin and anxiety comes at the door, breathe in, you got an emergency fund, Jesus is your emergency fund. You're safe. He's got this, you don't owe anything to the flesh (human nature) anymore.
