Messy to Minimalism: Decluttering the last 10% and living room declutter with me 2024
Hi friends! We started with so. much. stuff. And at the end of last year we finally decluttered 80% of our things. But starting with so many things to declutter, working our way through our whole house, I've been slowly pondering what to do next - knowing that the last 20% of items we have... still have clutter mixed in.
So today I decided to take a different approach to make the final push in decluttering our whole home. I'm starting in the living room and although I'm not organizing yet, I'm starting to plant some seeds on what the future will look like living with less things.
Last 10% video
✅ Prep-phase
Remove everything from the room
Let you and stuff and room breath
Phase 1
1. Is it staying or going?
2. Is it broken or worn out?
3. Do I feel extra frustrated managing this?
4. If staying, put in box or into its home depending on category and who it belongs to
5. If it’s going: straight in trash
Phase 2
1. Review where I am at and how I feel about it the amount left
Phase 3
1. How do I feel in the cleared out room.
2. What gets brought back over the next few days
3. What do I already like?
4. What would I like to change?
5. How do i want to live and manage moving forward?
Phase 4: Organize for effectiveness
Go shopping your inventory
Get inspired through what you have - consider replacing, not adding, if necessary including storage
Consider repurposing from the house

In Canada we call this hushing the house. Taking everything away , cleaning and only putting back the essentials. Great for fall cleaning when going on long, cold hibernating Canadian winters.

You have come so far! You have gotten rid of so much stuff! I experienced that feeling of overwhelm even after decluttering most of my things. I realized that I had way too much furniture and made it sort of a game of how can I store stuff in a more simplified space and also do I even really need to store this stuff or would I be happier letting it go. I think you might be able to breathe better with less furniture in your living room. Keep up all the good work!

I think having too much unused, unloved stuff creates negative vibes. Feels so good to have gotten rid of stuff after a clearout. But also feel guilty at the waste of money & natural resource & even plastic used.

@@jamie-vlogs Oooh! I would love to see the kitchen. I do a lot of from scratch cooking but our kitchen is pretty small, too, and it gets frustrating. Kitchen inspiration would be awesome. Can I ask, what size is your Berkey water filter system please? We are after one, but as a fellow family of five, we aren't sure what size to get? Thank you! xx
