Watching this video made me realize that I spend the good majority of winter in New England here bathing in fluid film as I fight rust and salt on every piece of equipment and truck we own lol.. it's like every truck and equipment and car guys life revolves around not letting salt touch it. So then I start thinking... we invest so much money and time here in the US anyways on so much nonsense. I think we should start voting in politicians that start pushing drivers education and start teaching these kids how to drive in the snow, and I'd say a good majority of the adults need to be run through that class as well, and then we can stop using salt and just be normal people. Haha

Couldn't agree more. Here in VT we have the nations worse vehicles in terms of corrosion and interiors. VT is known for using the most salt per mile so the tourists can feel safe driving up to go skiing. We also have insanely strict inspection rules. Any pinhole is a fail. Any fix on a frame has to be done by a "certified" welder. Even the dirt roads are covered in magnesium chloride in the summer as a caking agent to keep the dust down. It forces my wife and I to have cheaper winter cars to drive 5 months of the year.
@Adam_Poirier
@Adam_Poirier 6 ай бұрын
@@jacknimble1 yup I hear you. I'm in Massachusetts, and all of our commercial vehicles are required to go to state inspection. Same thing can't have any rust holes.... yet I pulled out of the shop the other day and literally the truck tires are losing traction in a 3 inch deep pile of rock salt that the idiot left at the end of the road because he stopped and just left the sander running while he sat there waiting for traffic. It's a joke. I love Vermont, let me apologize now I'm probably one of the annoying tourists that comes up there and drives around slow, lost and confused looking at the scenery.😂

For anyone who will be doing ball joints regularly, you can't go wrong with a snap-on ball joint breaking fork. I'm not a snap-on fan boi and currently don't own a single tool from them. But their forks just work because instead of having 2 flat sides, one side has a slight curve to it so it can never bite in and stop. 3 hits at the most every time without fail. This coming from an ex front end guy . I'm hope this truck got a wheel alignment after having that work done.

Broken seat that lays all the way back, 3 of the 4 door handles don't work (inside and out). Tailgate handle is broken and can't open it. Brakes were grinding metal. Glove box won't latch shut and just hangs open. Window doesn't roll down. Radio stopped working. :) .. I think the transmission and rear axle is all that's left. Rich, I've always had luck with adding a layer or 2 of good, thick cardboard in addition to that flimsy, ridiculous foam sheet. If you can find some foam thats thicker, that helps too. I've had cases where I had to cut a few layers of cardboard, stuck together w\ glue to act as fill-in spacers to prevent sockets from spilling out of case when stood up. You can also use spray adhesive to stick together the flimsy foam & the built up cardboard so its all one piece. I have no doubt that this is something you can 'fix' with a little time. I guess after you got spoiled from using your good ol Milwaukee sets that are all nicely fitted into Packout cases perfectly these blow-molded pos's dont compare in the slightest way! I do love those Packout sets & how the sockets all fitting in there nice & perfect! My carry around travel case is a 73 pcs Tekton 3/8" full set(no skips).. The case is perfect, nothing falls out ever. Only downside of it is lack of extra spots for miscellaneous extra sockets. Also carry the Husky 1/2" Impact full set & cordless impacts for the serious fasteners i may encounter. 👍👌🤔😎🛠️🔩🔧📐📏✏️🔨🔌🦺🧤🚧⚡💥💨⚠️🤷🏻‍♂️🍻

I have a 2000 Z71 I bought new with 350,000 miles on it now, she's a Georgia truck, needs a little love, but much cheaper to keep her than replace her.

I'm a Ford truck guy all the way, so my opinion may not mean much. This body style is the newest Chevy truck style that I actually like, other than maybe a 1 or 2 year body in 2015ish. I have never been a fan of the newer silverado styling, and I find the newest styles to be more terrible every year. I'm sure, like Rich, this is partly due to the fact that these were everywhere when I was growing up and in HS, I knew lots of guys that had these as their first truck. Also, the short bed, regular cab, Z71 4x4 package with the manual transmission might be one of my all time favorite chevy trucks...

I have a 93 k1500 that I got from my grandpa (still had factory cv axels with 260k miles) and got into an accident with it. The tow yard guy asked me "what you gonna do with it?" Keep it and fix it doesn't have much monetary value but the sentimental value won't let me sell it. You could see the sadness come over his face because all it needs was a front clip maybe a paint job and done. But now it sits waiting for one day when I have enough money to start rebuilding it. It's always easy to get rid of them but it's hard to get them back.

Really would've like to have seen you use raptor liner and spray it on instead of the roll on garbage that stuff does basically nothing but look ok until it all starts falling off.

I love your videos on your one video where you’re mentioned your cat passing and the 24 valve I noticed you had a 66 or 65 Chevy truck in the background I’ve got a 66 and thinking about putting a Cummings in it. Any thoughts on motor mounts front end, anything that can help me out that would be awesome…..

i still miss mine, sold it over 16 years ago, but have every thing done to it at the time, had a pro comp 6" lift, 3' body, 37" bfg's km 1's(worst tires Ive ever owned) on American racing rims, re geared everything to 4.88's with Detroit lockers front and back, wilwood 4 wheel disc brake conversion and we dropped in a zz383 to a 4l80e, true dual exhaust straigh piped, spray on bed liner, full rockers were rhino lined , had this thing nice and mint with only 45k miles, sold it to a local kid, for 14.5K back in 07, kid had it for a week and then crashed it into a telephone pole. (kid was fine, truck was not) My buddies dad brought it into his scrape yard, and i was lucky to buy it back from the insurance comp, for like 4k dollars, i stripped all the parts i put into my brothers truck, he still has it to this day, and still drives it at almost 325k miles. but kid did some damage to that original truck, twisted the frame, engine was fine, transmission housing was trashed, and was able to salvage the cab and bed for a buddies truck. wish i can find another clean one with lower miles again.

Guess a fella is gonna try some 15w-40 shell rotella in his 1990 350. Considering one bucket of shell costs 60 bucks, 5 quarts of Valvoline 10w-30 costs 30 bucks. Worst thing that can go wrong is a spun bearing right? Youuuu don't need to worry abooot getting a bearing spun!

5:00 It' hard to tell what is going on from the video. Is the ABS wire wrapped around the the sway bar link? Or is there a clip on the link that the wire is fastened to? I'm sure I've worked on one of these and I don't remember this and I would think it would be an odd setup from an engineering viewpoint. Edit: It looks like there is no ABS. On the passenger side the wires are cut and just hanging in the wind.

the only modern -ish Chevy trucks i like. Great combination of old truck qualities like real front bumper, boxy shape, work friendly interior but with efi, overdrive transmissions and handling that allows for modern highway speeds. Not a fan of 99+ gm half tons

Finished video. My stepfather ordered a 92 k1500 blazer and we had it as a daily hauler til 2002. He traded it in on an unreliable 2001 2500hd. That blazer has nothing more than a battery, pm, tires and brakes in about 9.5 years in central ny. I Still rag on him for not selling me the truck.

I wish I could get my 89 Econoline fixed, damn 4.9 in it has been the most frustrating, still can't drive it, quits when I put it in gear, wish I had never put the wheelchair lift and seat base in it, requiring replacing the floor first, little drive time before it broke down, lives in shops, I hate Fords feeble attempt at EFI!
