Today, I am sharing the news that I will be leaving where I am living in Bangkok.. I have lived in the city for 3 years now and I am ready to move on and ready for a change of pace. I do love living in Bangkok as an expat and a digital nomad, but Thailand has a lot more to offer and I am ready for a lifestyle change.

Left the city in NJ after 8 years, now 4 years in a small beach town. Nyc is only an hour away. The calmness away from the chaos is much healthier.

I’m the exact same, I bought a condo in Lower Sukhumvit, I loved it at first. Stayed in it 5-6 years. Now I rent my condo out and I’ve rented a townhouse just out towards Samut Prakan. If I’m having a mad night out in Bangkok I’ll get a cheap room for the night around Sukhumvit and get the BTS in the morning 😃

the great thing about moving to the burbs is, condo or estate, most of your neighbours leave for work or school in the morning and return at night, so the pool, gym, streets etc are basically yours during the daytime......

Did the same decision a year ago here in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Was living in the city for 5 years. And yes, there’s nothing better to move 30mins away from there to green natural place. In big house, with plenty space to play with my Cafe Racer, flying drones and etc. Definitely way to go mate!

Hi Adam. Your move makes perfect sense. Bangkok, Pattaya and Patong are great places to live if you are single, want constant stimulation or just getting to live in Thailand for the first time. Cha Am, Hua Hin and Kamala Beach are all better places to live if you’re not single and want a more stable life. They still have places to have fun, are easily accessible and are nicely laid back. Nice to see Dan again!

Awesome... I lived out in Bang Sue just off Prachachuen Road in a cool little area for around 2 years. 10 minute walk from Tao Poon MRT. Not the same vibe as Thonburi but similar to what you were saying about being quieter, and central still being available within 20-30 mins by MRT/BTS. When asked where I was located by people I'd meet around central, the reaction was mostly a smug smile and, "Oh, you're miles out," but I absolutely loved it and it kept my attitude a lot more chill compared to said people. A few cool little bars, subculture scene, a nice market, and sweetheart locals to beat the band. Happy days for you coming, looking forward to seeing how it goes for ya!

The big disadvantage I see to a gated place is you don't have a roti vendor outside your door. You actually have to walk (or drive) somewhere to get to anything.

Im happy in the Bangkok burbs. House, garden and a small workshop. If you haven’t signed your lease yet maybe the south eastern suburbs like Bangna could be interesting for you. Can shave another 30 minutes off a trip to Pattaya. Still only 30 minutes to Asoke by BTS. But if you work on your own time you can also easily avoid traffic.

@@keisone Slow Yes, nice beach, for sure. But again, that's it's charm. Once the airport upgrades are completed (in the next two years they say?) Things may be different. The high-speed rail is still a fare way off so the commute to Bangkok or further south is still a bit of a problem due travel time. Riding bikes here though, that's a plus as the mountains are not far at all. Enjoy and thanks for helping me through the covid times and keeping my dream alive to move here. living the dream now, best of luck to ya.

The city is still so much better to live in. Close to all the convenience. Why bother living in the burbs when it takes you 20 minutes to just get outside of the neighbourhood and then having to commute into the city.

You're going to find in time, that you are not going to be going into the city unless you really have to, and when you do, it's going to feel like it's a hassle and not a pleasure.

Do you need to be based in Bangkok? Jomtien near Pattaya is cheaper than Bangkok and near the sea. The air is also fresher.
