I LOVE Alicia’s personality! So positive and full of life! I’m sure there is a dancing group somewhere in Mérida that she will soon discover. Her home is wonderful! I’m 66 years old and I’ll be moving there in October. A place of that size is all that I need. This was a great video, Cartess! Thank you so much for sharing. This was inspirational for me. ❤️❤️

Cartess I love this “primo a primo” concierge level of service you offer. I know it’s at a cost, but people can only pay for your time. You offer so much more which is evident in this video. Basic things such as furnishing a new place become not so basic when you are in new to a city in a foreign land. Having a person who has gone before you and knows the area to go from store to store with you is stellar. It’s those moments at the beginning that can affect how you feel in a new place longterm. A very endearing interview🦋

Thank u mucho... I enjoy helping folks make this transition. As you said, it can be overwhelming when one first land. I've never forgotten how overwhelmed i was when I first when to a new country. As you stated, it's the little things that makes all the difference to how one can feel in a new place.

I just viewed this video 4 months later but really enjoyed it. I am thinking of coming to Merida from the US. When I heard Alicia say she is a Nam-myoho-renge-kyo Buddhist, I thought great I can have a chanting session with Alicia. Even though I no longer practice, it is always nice to have someone to chant with. So when I come there I will ask Cartess to introduce me to Alicia.

What a connection I feel with Senorita Alicea. Her energy is positively awesome. I love dancing & Salsa in in particular. I never considered Mexico. Not even to visit BUT...I came across Senor Cortez' KZfaq channel some weeks ago. Senor Cortez was interviewing the lady that is a retired truck driver. I actually watched that episode twice. I am a firm believer in Nothing is happenstance. So, who knows. Mexico is now a consideration.

I was paying $1900 per month in the USA, but in Queretaro I have paid $672 in 2021 to $855 per as of May 2023. mont. I could live even less expensive, but I love where I live and it is beautifully furnished, all utilities, including wifi, maid, security, and a beautiful view of the city. It is safer than the USA also. The weather is cool, and this is a super clean city, and I have local friends. I order my 6 months food and water supplies, and I generously help non beggars. I am 80, and have been coming to Mexico for over 60 years., mainly Acapulco, but the earthquakes were the deal breakers.

Well, all the more power to this young lady, part of hoards of middle and upper class americans relocating to my Mexico. However, what about the hoards of poor americans who are still trapped in americas absurd, senseless culture? They can't even think of affording an escape. And, what do you think the majority of Mexicans, who are certainly not middle class, think about large numbers of rich americans moving in, driving up rent and food prices? And remember, middle class americans are no friend to poor and homeless americans. All I can say is this, if your're going to come to our great nation, learn Spanish, mingle with the common folk, become a part of the Mexican community( in Mexico, not so ridiculous,eh?). Because, as discontent grows here over the rising prices, the insecurity, and the growing Mexican middle class, which, just like in the US, are NOT friendly to our common folk, especially indigenous and afromexicans. Well, things may not remain comfortable for foreigners, who choose to live seperate from the native population.

Thank you for your comments and I totally agree. I am not upper-middle-class, and I chose to live in the heart of a totally Mexican Colonia. I have not seen one non-mexican in my neighborhood since I've been here and I'm getting to know my Mexican neighbors and I am learning Spanish and plan to become fluent. From my heart, I do appreciate all of your comments and understand and totally agree with you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts❤

How exactly are Americans (and others) "driving up prices" simply be relocating to Mexico?? Are they coming to places, buying up all the propeties and businesses and then upcharging locals?

Oftentimes, it's the local owners that are drastically increasing the prices in the local markets to make more money from foreigners; thus driving up costs for their local neighbors. Unfortunately, nothing stays the same. This is not just happening in Mexico. It happens all over the world, including the U.S. We see it all the time in the US when folks go into local neighborhoods and renovate and drive up prices, and locals get displaced. There aren't enough 'foreigners' moving into Merida to drive these prices up in the manner that some suggest. The fastest growing demographic in Merida are Mexicans from other States within Mexico. Many of these Mexicans from other Mexican States are middle-to-upper middle class, as well as many wealth Mexicans moving into Merida. (346,000 Mexican citizens from from other States in Mexico have arrived into the Yucatan... Most coming from Tabasco, Veracruz, Chiapas, and Mexico City.). And many of these folks flowing in are wealthy. Many are more wealthy than US citizens arriving here with $2,000 social security / retirement income. Go into ANY of these high-end developments and neighborhoods where the rent and mortgage costs are super high and you'll see the overwhelming majority of the folks living in these homes and mansions are Mexicans. Go into ANY wealth Mexican neighborhood and you'll be lucky to find an American or two there. It's an illusion. I live in a very wealthy area and ALL of my neighbors are Mexicans (Over 90%). I'll post the source at the bottom. And these numbers are from 2020 census -- They are the ones that are overwhelming driving costs. The idea that Americans are driving up these prices is not an accurate one (folks from the US make up less than 5,000 people in this population of nearly 1.2 million in Merida/Yucatan State. These numbers are from a 2020 census so are a little dated). But we're the easiest ones to blame because we're the low hanging fruit. Do the research and you'll see clearly whose flowing into Merida specifically. Foreigners make up a very tiny percentage of the population here. It's not enough of us here to have that much of an effect as many locals believe. I do agree that as 'guests' in this great country, we have a responsibility to try and avoid renting or buying overpriced rentals/properties that could cause people to get displaced. Try and support local businesses as often as possible. Learn some Spanish and at least make the effort to speak in the local language when out. I've fallen short on the. language aspect but am learning day by day new words; maybe not as fast as I'd like, but am making progress. Treat the locals with respect in terms of the local culture, ways they do things and not try to impress 'our ways' on how things are done here. Mexico is wonderful. Some people may or may not like foreigners, but that's everywhere in the world. A great positive attitude will get you much further along. Don't be mean. It's harder for older people especially if all your social networks speak English. She was shy and on camera she did know how to say just a little nervous 😊
