I bought the 50mm f1.0 awhile back and love the lense. The only doenside is that I got the 56mm f 1.2 and it's pretty similar! So There's no use in having both. The other one is going to overshadow the other and it'll just collect dust on the shelf. So which one should I sell. In this video I'm doing a comparison taking some self portraits and video, and deciding on the spot. This also is the first time I'm comparing these two.

Great video! And thanks for comparing. I really like the original 56mm. But living in the netherlands I could use some weather sealing. I would say in daylight they are very similar, but for low light the f1.0 is really helpful. So overall the 50 would be better for, except for when travelling, as it's very heavy.

For exactly the same reasons, but the other way around (which lens to buy), I decided for the 50mm f1. Thanks for your helpful considerations! And if I need it supper light to carry, I take the 50, 35 or 23 f2 with me.

I think the 56mm 1.2 mark ii wouod be a better comparisom. Its sharper than the 50 1.0 and better corrected for flare and the focusing is better as well.

Well even though I would’ve loved to do that, I don’t own the mark II and don’t have the budget to buy one. Also this wasn’t a comparison per se, it was more of me making a decision which one to sell. Note: I didn’t sell either as I like both of them too much.

It’s a no-brainer , keep the 56, 1.2. It’s more than enough separation, and perhaps a bit too much. The 50 1.0 leaves no room for error! Plus, you save money, and have less weight.

That’s a good point, but I have to keep in mind that the 56mm is the older version. It’s slower and misses focus more then the 50mm. Using the 50mm with my X-H2 will also give me room to crop so to me there’s more room for error. Also the 56mm isn’t weather resistant. The weight is a bummer though, but not enough to change my mind. Of course I could sell both and buy the newer weather resistant version of the 56mm.

@@TimoVarakas The trick is to use your focus limiter on the close side, around 6 feet to infinity, really speeds it up on my XT5 and even my XT4. Make a special menu in your “my menu” section for easy access. I have the lens and have used the limit focus for great results.!

@@simon359 I'm always forgetting about the focus limiter. Good tip

Nice video thanks man. I've been tempted by the 50mm, I have the original 56mm but I don't get much use of compared to my 90 f2. Seeing sample shots from the 50mm it does look like pure art at times.

the 50mm f1.0 is one third of a stop faster than the 56mm f1.2, not 50% faster, 33.333333333333% faster. big difference. :)

Said it wrong. F/1.4 to 1.2 is 0.44 stops which is almost 50%.

I think each click of the 1/3rd dial is roughly a 26% difference.
