Generally I'm with you on your rants, but not this time! Should we stop collecting other dive style watches? Watches that aren't ISO certified? Or aviation style watches, even though no pilot would ever use one to calculate flight times based on fuel weight? For the most part, a lot of watches, especially microbrands under $500, aren't going to have a whole lot of heritage or old world craftsmanship. They're watches. They're fun. They don't cost a lot. Most of us pick watches for their style, color, and many other even stranger justifications.

I love how everyone who collects watches tells others to not collect watches. It is 100% good advice but also quite hillarious to me.

This makes me respect Christopher Ward watches. They designed an actual super compressor case, while being at the forefront of this trend.

Boredom during 2020 made me a collector, dammit. When I was working as a teacher, I enjoyed several watches but did not consider myself a collector, I have a Seiko Solar, a Seiko Mickey Mouse, A Seiko Gentleman's Gold Tone, a Swiss Military Diver and a Timex Expedition. During 2020, I got the itch.....Now retired after 35 years, I have added the Hamilton Mechanical Boulton, Hamilton Khaki mechanical olive dial with date,, an Automatic Orient Classic Dress and A G-Shock Casioak. Geez....now with watching this newest review a blue dial automatic Diver is likely going to be next. ....geez.

I don't know about this particular watch, I wouldn't buy it through, but then that's because I already own a CW Super Compressor watch, so I don't need one that just pretends to be a Super Compressor :)

I have a Spinnaker Bradner which has been around a few years now. Personally I like the style and I'm planning on getting a Christopher Ward C65 super compressor at some point.

You need to check out the Dan Henry watches. They have a Super Compressor style watch that is very nice and affordable. They have some new colors and sizes available. I've had mine for 3 years and it's a keeper.

I really like my Восток Amphbia Red Reef, it's a GMT with a compressor 24 hour bezel, external dive ratcheting dive bezel, and date window at 6 O'clock.

For me the whole appeal of divers is the thick bezel protecting the crystal from knocks and the supercompressors completely run counter to that, so their appeal to me is zilch. Cool looking watch tho. Cheers Mate 👍🏻

i like the style. i don't want it to be a trend. i want it to be consistantly popular like external bezel dive watches. because what i'm really sick of is the external bezel style dive/gmt every where.

The DH 1970 scratched my itch for this style. But this MM version doesn't look bad at all.

More recent new subscriber here. Love your channel content. Fell down the watch rabbit hole after having a good earning year and looking to upgrade from my Seiko Five (SRPD93) dive watch that was something of a disappointment since I bought it a few years ago. I appreciate your commentary, critique and humor. I really like this watch...enough so that I added it to cart and looked at shipping cost and started searching every review I could find on it for pros and cons. I find the blue variant especially compelling. However, after pulling the trigger on a Baltic Aquascaphe Blue Gilt (not the compressor version) a few months ago, I don't find this watch different enough to merit a purchase right now. Both have Miyota 9000 movements (Aquascaphe has the 9039 no date vs. the 9015 here...and keeps surprisingly good time out of the box), both have similar dial presentations with the use of limited sandwich dial and pretty decent lume). I find the fonts on both of them to be a little on the small side, which is nice for adding to the smaller wrist feel...but I think both could benefit from slightly larger fonts. Similar water resistance (Baltic 200m vs. Maelstrom 300m) and both have nice bracelets (Baltic has a nice and comfortable beads of rice design with a milled clasp vs. the H-link here, also with a nice clasp...but I wish both offered a clasp with on-the-fly micro-adjust along the lines of Christopher Ward or Mido). So while I could really love this watch, it's not different enough for me to make a purchase right now. But it will definitely go on the short list. I'm leaning more toward an NTH Scorpene for its larger fonts, brighter and more abundant lume and pilot watch vibes. Of course, I'm waiting for the next production run on that one. Miyota 9000 series is one of the best movements available. Not QUITW as refined but definitely more robust than the ETA 2824 and SW200.

Squeeze on at the sii factory, miyota seems to have a stable supply, but definitely a better movement. Probably a good excuse to pump the price a bit too

Zelos Mako V3 uses the Miyota 9015 too. Just another way that smart micros separate themselves from the mundane.

I love the look of this watch. The dial is beautiful, love that blue and the hands (minus the faux patina) and the caseback is awesome, a work of art. But I'm not a fan of the inner bezel, that compressor-style look. An outer bezel would've been much better. Still, good looking watch with pretty good specs.

Have you noticed how the blue layer on the dial separates from the white layer underneath it? That was on the lower part of the 2 that is part of the "12" hour mark. You can see it at 0:55 - and then you can't unsee it. Makes me question that watch...

It's a matter of personal interest, but I just got sick of internal rotating bezels. Makes a watch thicker than it needs to be, and adds the second crown. I have two and I never wear them. Just not for me.

Specs to price is definitely there, and I love the dial. I'm just not into compressor dive watches either

For this watch, I think it's a very good example of how microbrands can make great-spec-ed watches... At Even Greater Prices (AHEM... Rolex). I'll get this watch when all the craze n hoohaas(read - marketing BS) are Over n get them at around 300 bucks or less, preloved. After all, if it did last for 2 years, I guess the quality (n price) shouldn't be that bad... Especially since most of us believe in the Intrinsic value, of a watch... N'est pas?

Nice looking watch but the 11 o’clock bezel index is out of line with the face index when the bezel is in the zero position. Would drive me crazy.

Very nice watch. This watch connects very well with the advice of not starting to collect watches. I'm thinking of Edgar Allan Poe's story "Descent into the Maelstrom". 😉 On another point, as a diver with more than 20 years under my belt, it irritates me when companies produce a "diver" with no minute markers on the bezel. It's not a diver if you cannot synchronise your bezel to the 8 minute decompression stop when rising from the depths. It's only a swimming and snorkeling watch. As a diver, it's purely for diving into your desk drawer to find your stapler.

I like aqua compressor style watches. Especially from micro brands.

Bezel misalignment at 11 is *bad.* These are "fine" but disappointingly conventional compared to the Chronicle which felt a lot more daring and unique. Tons of microbrand "SC" watches that look just like this. I'm curious to see what MM comes up with next, but passing on this one.

I love this one. I get what you're saying about compressor style watches getting a bit ubiquitous. But I don't mind so much. I like them. I bought an Aevig Balaur SE a while ago. But this one is very neat, and it has a date, which the Balaur is unfortunately missing. I could get weak.

I don't collect watches, but I'm searching for "the one" right now it's the gwg-1000. This thing is an absolute beast and beauty.

I think I prefer the seiko alpinist with the grey blue dial Europe only model. A little more dollar but way nicer looking.

Additional rant: I always chuckle inside when I hear watch collecting labeled as a "hobby". Doesn't the word hobby sort of imply creating, modifying, or building something? Some people give themselves way too much credit for their ability to buy and wear a watch. It's like saying my wife has a "diamond hobby" 😂🙃

Tired of super compressors? Why? Why not tired of ubiquitous dive watches in general? Rolex derivatives? Tanks? Dinnerplate-sized B-Uhr clones? Speedmasters? More Speedmasters? Seiko Turtles? Digitals? Oversized dress watches? The super compressor is just a practical, attractive, timeless style that won't go away. Writing this while wearing my lovely, affordable, iconic Dan Henry 1970.

I don't normally like faux patina but here I don't mind it. And since I don't dive I don't really care about super compressor "style" watches. I'll used them all the same.

I don't have a super or style compressor watch. Take or leave but one fad I'm very tired of is aged lume. I use a lot of NH movements in build but their price is skyrocketing so the Miyota 821A and 9015 might be the next movement of choice. Also very interested in the PT5000 inexpensive Chinese(by comparison) clone of the ETA 2824.

I'm thinking about service cost 🤔.... pass 😬

Issue #1: There are six (6!) different fonts on the dial/bezel, including four (4!) different numeral fonts (count them!) Not for me.

So, a separate wart on the case just so you can have a (pointless) internal bezel? Call me unimpressed. And since I loathe numerals on watch dials, well....this is an easy no go for me.

Personally, I would expect a Miyota 9015 at this price point. Using an NH35A in anything over $300 is a real stretch.

Hobby vs Addiction - love it!

Watch reviewers (and most other reviewers) on KZfaq need to start telling them that they're not going to do T&E products anymore. If they can't afford to send you a watch that costs THEM $100-150, and let you keep it, tell them to eff off. If you sell one watch for them, they've made back their product investment costs, PLUS they've gained exposure. If reviewers would stop agreeing to review products that they need to spend their time to send back, the reviewing landscape for yt reviewers would change drastically.

You should've told me to not start collecting watches 15+ years ago. I hate that I like this watch too. The blue is really nice. The specs are okay. I'm glad it's sapphire unlike some big name 500 dollar watches *cough* Bulova *cough*. The clasp is milled which is nice and the quick release is a bonus.
