some suggestions: 1: you should invest in a desk with built-in storage, having some drawers underneath the desk & shelving on top is so nice, you can get desks with built-in cubbys for your pc so you can disguise some of the wires. i'd suggest getting a white desk bc i personally find that having a bright work space makes me more productive. 2: get a futon under the window again, but get one that you can comfortably recline in & relax, with lots of pillows & blankets. 3: you can get cat shelves with suction cups that you can hang on windows, idk i just think they're neat & my cat really loved them 4: get more small lamps to put around the room, maybe in a warm colour scheme so when you turn off your filming & ceiling light, the room will be bathed in a warm glow those are just suggestions based on my own experience working from home :) love your videos as always ❤️

Because of corona I had to move into my new apartment without seeing it first, so I definitely may or may not have used the Sims to make a scale version of my apartment and attempt to buy furniture based on what I think would look good in it 🤣🤣 which shockingly worked very good

Ive already commented this once, but it hasn’t been done! Kayak, plz do this challenge! Not my original idea, original by “you’re so golden”- but i rlly like the idea so plz pass it on! BUILD IDEA: Randomized house. When you want to place a bed, count the number of beds then pick a random number and you have to use that bed. Same for every other object you place, including roofs and walls and flooring. Idk if this makes sense, but this is it. + the colors (idea by Ann 394)

I've posted it before but here's a challenge I imagined (I don't know if it exists): You ask your community to create sims with biographies and we put them in the gallery with a hashtag. Then you choose one Sim or household (in case we create a family) and you give them a house. The house should fit that Sim, their aesthetics and their personality. I think this will be super fun for everyone and we don't even need expansion/game/stuff packs to participate unlike shell challenges. I'd love to see your take on a story and Sim someone else created, it's always cool to hear some storytelling while you build (like when you built your Karen and her family). I hope you like it!

Even if it was just a 360 Pan of the room. 1) I am assuming we are on a tripod and we could easily be a webcam. 2) it may have been for privacy reasons on her end, which is absolutely fine. This was still helpful and I think I might do this for my room and office so thanks for the help Kayla. Edit: Nevermind she showed us and I was not paying attention. We are in fact sitting on a tripod.

I did this before I moved into my new apartment. I looked up the floor plan and I mapped out where I wanted all the furniture to go. Then came moving day and I had to stay behind and the movers just put all the furniture in weird spots. My whole plan was foiled lol

You can still have a fun cushy bench in the window instead of the desk! I used to be obsessed with rearranging my room as a teen, it made me so happy to have a new setup, whether or not it was better-optimized. This was a very fun video to watch :)

i haven't even watched the video yet but i literally thought about doing the same thing today?!? the world works in mysterious ways.

One tip I have is that each tile in the sims is about a square yard/sqaure meter. I find that helps me layout spaces.

I feel this! My apartment is a one room living area so bed+office and it's so awkward! XD I have 4 doors coming from my room so no matter where I put my desk or bed, at least one door is going to be blocked. So I had to move my desk about half a foot away from the wall which would be fine except its a L desk so there's just an awkward gap between my desk and the wall so I can at least open my closet part way. The gap also serves as a black hole as it's not wide enough for me to retrieve fallen objects behind it but is big enough to swallow EVERYTHING!

my neighbors did the same thing. they had a children's birthday party w like 30 people, the weekend after they had a family barbecue. If there was a window facing them directly like Kayla has, I would stick up a poster that says "Enjoy Death, Morons." or maybe Hell since they're dragging others down with them.

hmmm could you maybe put the small bookcase thingy next to the outer wall and scoot the table a bit more to the side? Alternatively, you can always stack the books on top of the closet-bookcase. Or put it on the diagonal wall? And if you have a half-tile more space, you can put the cat tree next to the big bookcase, maybe. I think something could be done, in any case... I swear I'm actually good at this irl

When I want to rearrange a room, I use graph paper. 1sq = 1sqft and you just measure the room and furniture, draw out the room on a blank sheet, cut out all of your furniture to scale, and ta da! You can rearrange your room without ever moving furniture! Then, when you find a layout the works, tape it down and you can ACTUALLY move things around. My grandma taught me this trick YEARS ago and I legit keep a folder now with all my rooms and furniture pieces in it. I rearrange nearly every room in my house every few months an this is a LIFESAVER.

I honestly wish I could build like her! Whenever I build for my channel I try to be like Kayla but it ends up looking scary! 😂

I did this for my parents kitchen when they were remodeling. The carpenter was very impressed with the sims capability and did it all exactly how I laid it out. Even cut a hole out in the wall to extend the counter out into a bar area just how I designed in game!

You could try to see if you could furnish some things into the room instead. Like have the short end of your desk by the wall and the desk into the room? Or use your bookcases as room dividers in the same way

You could use an L-Shaped corner desk (super easy to make), then put a file cabinet, trash can and storage under the desk at the ends. That would give you lots of space on the desk in the corner for the lights, router and tripod. Your cat could sit on the desk in front of the window, the printer on one end and the plant on the other end.

I think you should either have another couch thingy by the window but with a sturdy back so Snap can sit on it, or just get a chair and put the cat tree in front of the window so Snap can sit on top of that! The second desk is really whats messing with the layout in there

Put the cable on top of the baseboard and keep the room lay-out the way it is! You can secure the cable with some tacks with hooks or a cable tray thing to make it look nice.

You could put some floating shelves on the wall above your desk. It would add a little storage and also allow you to put cute stuff on it for decoration

I did the same thing when I moved into my apartment and even though some things didn’t fit as planned because of scale, it turned out really well! What’s funny is when I showed my plans to my parents they were unsure if it would look good but when we were done moving in they really liked how it turned out :)

I recreated my friend's grandma's house in the sims a few months ago and man, that was my favorite build!!

I've definitely used the Sims to figure out how to layout my home! Now that we're going to move again, I'm already using sims to help decide what goes with and what gets left behind.

What if you float the desk in the middle of the room with your back to the window, add low shelves under the window for your printer and cat, and split the shelves and put one on each wall? That way the video can have (what I hope is) a nice view of the outside behind you!

This video is extremely relatable. I rearrange my room in the sims a lot, only to realise that it just isn't possible with my massive bookcase, my desk, my bed, my mirror and my closet. It barely fits as it is, but if I were to move it around, I wouldn't even be able to enter my room because my door would always be blocked. Sigh.

i truly feel like, a bigger desk with more storage will be ideal for you, and get some mounted shelves on the walls for anything small to maybe have less shelving on the floor, maybe find a better closet organizer, get some shelves above in the closet (if there aren't any on the wall near the ceiling) It can help. Browse some storage and organization options, maybe a storage bench for sure, it can help with any clutter.

I have floor to ceiling windows and a 3x3 m bedroom so I know how you feel with a tiny room and no space for anything, especially with a double bed.

You could put a decorative shelf above your PC set up, maybe even put the old books you won't be using much up there.. and you could also get a double curtain rod (one for daytime/sheer curtains and one for night time/privacy curtains) (you could also save money and attach a wire to your current rod for the sheer curtains and buy and place blackout curtains on the main curtain rod. ❤️) or if you wanted to invest quite a bit more... you could change the desk to a long, adjustable height table or even a built in desk. It would change the space drastically. The key is to not give up! 👍😁❤️

Maybe you should try using the wall space you have as book storage. There are a whole bunch of different mountable shelf options, that would make your little white bookshelf under your desk obsolete. Then you could probably move most of the books in the shelf behind you onto really cool creative shelving options. Then the floor would be clear and you could move the cat tree. Edit. The space next to your windows by your boyfriends desk you could add short shelves like 2 or 3 for additional book storage. As long as you don’t leave them mostly bare your cat won’t go up there.

maybe.. have your desk in front of the window? That way you have extra wall space on both sides? Orrrrr you could have a floating wall shelf above your desk to remove the need for having the stand holding your books? Just a couple ideas :) I do this for arranging my apt all the time lol

If you're comfortable with it, you should take advantage of the wall space and put up wall shelves (Maybe floating?) and use that for your books or more storage. The cube shelf you already have is nice, but it would free up a lot of space probably assuming that it's two units and not a whole one :)

Your video gave me a couple ideas that you can take or leave. I’m just spitballing ideas. If you want something cute behind your monitors but can’t do pictures because it’s too cluttered how about a fun accent wall? Either with paint or wallpaper. Don’t know if you live in an apartment if you do they make removable wallpaper. I think it would be doable to put a desk at the window but get custom lets but would you be comfortable in your seat? OR make a cat tower bench? Get the poof on top like you pulled in the game and have open compartments for your kitty to play in. Love your videos.
