When Cassie flew out the car and started running around the construction site I was so confused. Like girl where are you going? There's no one around for miles. And then Nate chased her around and got to his knees and I began to weep. Like we nearly escaped this disturbing emotional roller coaster and now here we are again. UGh tragic.

Everyone wants to talk about Cassie's obvious daddy issues but I like to add on to what you said - she also doesn't have a female rolemodel. Her mom is a mess. When she looked to the other girls for guidance in S1 her problem was quickly forgotten and they focused on petty drama. Cassie doesn't know who she is not who she wants to be, apart from being "someone's".

The fan fic definitely plays a role in how Kat feels about Ethan. I mean they had that whole scene where the Kal drogo look alike k-worded Ethan and then fucked Kat. I mean wanting that is not a bad thing but she definitely needs to just communicate that with Ethan but she’s also a teenager, so I don’t expect her to have full emotional maturity when most adults don’t

I was really looking forward to Cassie becoming a fucking independent queen when at the end of s1 she said she wasn't gonna date the rest of high school, and then NATE. I really feel like she has to hit bottom before she can get better, but it makes me really disappointed in the way she's going about it. Honestly everyone in this show needs so much therapy lol.

that would be terrible for their viewership. we’re kind of seeing that with stranger things because the 4th season has taken sooo long to come out, a lot of ppl either don’t care anymore or have better/other things to watch bc the consistency has fallen short meaning the excitement and anticipation has plummeted to the earth. if that happens w euphoria, s3 would probably be the last season tbh bc the writing is already suffering and the only thing keeping the show afloat is the cinematography and the acting :(

I think the main thing with Cal is the expectation to feel sorry for him. That's not what I took from his backstory, I think his backstory does explain why he is the person he is but thats not to say his actions are "excusable" cause he didn't get the life he wanted. Cal is an extremely self centred, horrible man and feels justified cause of what he went through and the pretty lights and style of how his past was shot was reflective of the way he looks back at his own past with Derek and not to attempt to justify any of his actions .

Bro I legit had a good idea for McKay. Due to the parallels Mckay has with Nate, he could've either been a love interest for nate (especially since in the first season mckay spends a lot of time worry about nate's opinion all the time and then there was the party scene) or he could've been a foil to nate.

Kat does need to break up with Ethan cause she’s unhappy but there is an underlying(?) issue as to why she is; she’s surrounded by toxic relationships and then spent the last year turning herself into a s3x object for men so I think there’s a disconnect in Ethan simple wanting to date her just to date. And I do think the fanfic plays some part into it cause that affects young girls more than people like to think but it’s not the main issue. She’s not happy w/ Ethan but what’s to say if she gets w/ another guy like him that she won’t go through the same motions again if she doesn’t unpack her own feelings of self-worth

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed watching Cal’a backstory? 😭 I personally enjoyed the backstory bc it shows that as people we all have complexities that contribute to making us who we are. It made me sympathize with a character who truly doesn’t deserve it. I personally love characters with depth and I think it did a great job showing why Nate is the way he is. My bf & I almost cried while watching his backstory bc it was super fucking sad. His backstory didn’t make me change how I felt about his character, I still think he’s a disgust, but it created this new layer of understanding for me & I thought it was great. Maybe it’s bc I’m a mental health therapist & I have to provide therapy to shitty people like Cal on a regular basis & sustain judgement, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cal is at least an interesting character (that doesn’t mean he’s a good man, just interesting), and Jules did lie to him about her age. And the next episode is the payoff for his backstory and the confrontation with his family was amazing lol.

I feel like the family dynamics of Rue and Cassie/Lexi are so underrated. I wanna see less of the Jacobs and more of that this season. One of the best moments from season 1 was watching Rue and her family caught in the heat of an argument that's so uncomfortable to watch juxtaposed with them in the car genuinely happy that makes you feel like you're coming up for air. It was so beautifully shot and well acted. My thing with Euphoria is there's some gems in there like that, but there's also so much that I don't care about. I couldn't really get into Cal's backstory either. Like we know by now that hurt people hurt people, but that doesn't justify their actions. We know by now that people aren't born evil, so I just found it all a bit weird and a waste of time like a lot of what Euphoria chooses to focus on and why I also didn't rewatch season 1.

my theory is that the show culminates in rue's death and narrator rue is her explaining all the events that lead up to her death, which is how she knows everybody's past and everything they're thinking etc.

I love both Kat and Ethan, but at this point I'm just hoping they split up and we can see both of their arcs play out separately. This isn't what I wanted for them, but at it's way better than watching them slouch through this relationship. Ethan looked so done at that dinner and I can't even blame him, Kat is very "meh" around him and she doesn't hide it. Ethan has potential because he's a bit more dull and can become more interesting, and Kat's story could go a million different ways if they would just give her the same amount of attention as they give other characters. I hope Eliot goes FAR away from Rue and Jules. He is trying to fool around with Jules' mental and I don't appreciate that. Plus he's trying to get into her pants while also lying to her about Rue, like go away.

Cal isn’t a sympathetic character nor is he a “good person”. His backstory also allowed us to see the dangers of hiding your identity and lying to yourself as well as the world. Obviously, the man made his own choices and deserves to be held accountable but I feel like both of these things can exist in the same space. I think we can acknowledge the harm someone has caused while also understanding they themselves may have been harmed.

I usually watch the after episode, where the characters explain how they felt, and them describing what Cassie is feeling, "being lost to love," is quite concerning, because what that girl is experiencing for Nate is not love, it's cathexis. Idk they're relying a lot on love being a feeling rather than an action. Love and abuse cannot co-exist.

Season two is honestly lackluster, doesn’t match with the first seasons plot. It’s over sexualized for it being high school. It’s focused more on the cinematography than anything. And each episode has like not even two complete conversations and what are they about ??? The director sucks I understand why Barbie was mad when season one wasn’t like this at all. Everyone overanalyzes the show bc it literally can’t hold a single plot

It wasn't just Barbie, I heard multiple actors had complaint about their characters. And I think it is because so far, all the episodes have been directed by Sam Levinson. While the first season had multiple directors across the episodes. So at the very least it seemed like the first season had more input and Levinson had feedback. But we'll just have to wait until the episode is complete.
