beyond the horribly inconsistent plot, character arcs, and pacing of this show, my actual biggest problem with it is how it focuses much more on abusers and their backstories and reasonings than on their victims and the trauma they inflict without a second thought. the abuse maddy (and jules honestly) has experienced at the hands of nate is so swept under the rug it's honestly disturbing.

more on maddy's trauma and humiliation: the only reason nate went to go get the tape back from maddy was because he felt that she was going to leak it, and the reputation of the family would be tarnished. the show literally told us he's planning on inheriting the family business, and that couldn't happen with the tape out there. so why, cut to two episodes later, he's willingly giving that tape to the cops? that russian roulette scene was just there for shock value and to further traumatize maddy.

Sam Levinson threw away character development, forgot storylines completely and gave us an incomplete season. A season should be comprehensive with beginning, middle and end so people saying we will continue in s3 a lot of these plot points could’ve been resolved or at least set up for s3. Especially when they had Elliot singing for 20 mins in the finale, and the last 2 episodes were a play rehashing things we already saw in season 1. In conclusion Sam needs a writers room and therapy.

But there was almost no psychological depth to any other characters. It was all very surface level. It's not good writing when the audience has to assume something. Yeah that's what I was thinking too but we don't know for sure but I too thought the same thing! And Jules was wearing some of Elliot's clothes too so that kind of gave it away (at least in my mind). I loved when Rue told Jules off! I felt that shit! And I've been Rue before (struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues. I'm in recovery now, thank god.) but that whole episode between the intervention, her causing accidents, robbing her friend and a random house, running from the cops and ultimately winding up at Laurie's in such bad withdrawals that she's willing to do IV morphine for some relief and barely escapes being sex trafficked was just NUTS to me! Laurie clocked Rue for what she is the very first time she met her and she also did her homework on Rue too because if you notice when Rue comes over and Laurie answers the door she goes "Ruby Bennett!" (calls her by her full legal name, so she's done her research on Rue it seems!) and Laurie LIED and said she only had IV morphine when she had a WHOLE SUITCASE FULL OF DRUGS but she PURPOSEFULLY wanted to get Rue hooked on the needle because once you're on the needle you're easy to control and kept held hostage because you become a slave to that drug because without it you're violently sick (I've been through withdrawals thousands of times in my life and it's TORTUROUS!) and that's how they keep you trapped and selling yourself. I have a feeling Laurie and her goons are not only gonna come for Rue in season 3 but also come for her sister Gia! I don't want to have to wait until 2024! UGH!

Like all Kat's scenes were written out, yet Sam had the time to change Fez's death to Ash actually dying (confirmed in an interview). Next season 100% needs a writers team, because sam maybe a talented film director, but the reason his films/tv series are lacking is because of his horrible writing.

Sam is the over priviledged son of a more famous and talented producer, he is a millenial man who never stepped foot in any public high school because he went to a private academy and had an affluent Bel Air upbringing where every luxury imaginable was granted to him and he got into drugs because he was a bored rich kid who never had to work for a living let alone study to get into college (He's worse than Olivia Jade) He shows up to set unprepared and has his assistants and film crew do all the work, most especially all the stunning creative visuals, while he gets full credit and they get underpaid and overworked. Sam Levingston would NOTHING without his creative team and his daddy's name. Whatever talent you think he has fully belongs to his creative team.

Yeah I think you are exaggerating and just jumping on the hate train. Sam has his issues but he' not a criminal either and Euphoria ism't a disaster. The season had some issues but overall even among critics it still has a rating of over 80%. Moreover, They are still a lot of great and unprecendented elements and messages (that flew over a lot of people's heads) in the second season. The Rue/Gia/Leslie/Ali arch,Nate and Cal's transgenerational fear of nonconformity to the idea of masculinity and lexi's struggle with being an "observer" were great and unique elements of S2. The rest was meh with some good things . I also heard (these are just rumors) that there were a lot of behind the scenes drama as well (between Sam and kat's actress who wanted to have as much creative control as she did in the first season, and in the end neither Sam or the actress' vision for the character was presented, and we got that shitty arch. Moreover instead of Cassie and Nate, it was supposed to be Jules and Nate, but for a reason tied to Zendaya and Nate's actor's breakup, Jule's actress did not want to work with Nate's actor), so there were a lot of complications and Sam had to change the script multiple times and it kind of shows .

@@angelaortega1495 jumping on the hate train? This is my opinion. My opinion doesn't sway just because other people disliked this season. Also 80% ratings doesn't make this season objectively good, because once again people have different opinions. While yes I did like certain storylines (rue's particularly), Sam didn't utilize MAIN characters and their plots from the first season which is lazy storytelling. Even then almost all his plots this season led to nothing. Maddie being held at gun point. Jules and Elliot cheating. Elliot's entire character was used only to be a plot device. The only plot that was kinda resolved was Nate puting his creep dad into prison, and rue staying clean throughout the year. But the reason I'm being so critcal is that for ME a lot of the good things didn't outweigh the negatives 🤷 but hey if you liked this season then awesome Also the whole drama thing is probably manifested from sam's inability to take in criticism. And if there's drama between actors Sam shouldn't just cut out all their scenes. He didn't cut out any of nates scenes, yet he did if for Jules and Kat?

@@fang3982 Sam could literally not film one of the most prominent plotlines he had intended this season (Jules and Nate) because the actors did not want to act together. That's not really his fault, that's the actors not being professional. Nate and Cassie was plan B. And let's not forget that Kat's child prostitution arch received a lot of backlash last season and Kat was the most hated character of the show. Views were polarized on her. So I'm not suprised that Sam wanted to opt for a less controversial arch for her (which was tied to the topic of ED) and I think this is where the disagreement stemmed from. Kat's actress should also known that she was privileged to have so much creative control of her character in S1, and that not every actor (especially new actors) have that opportunity.

Can we talk about how much Sam RUINED Cassie as a character? He made her such an unlikable bitch this season for the sake of pushing this Cassie x Nate x Maddy demonic love triangle. And I get that Cassie struggles with a lot as a result of her daddy issues which push her to pursuit any man in the hopes of finding love, but we literally watched her spiral and then shit on EVERYONE which was so unnecessary. And we hardly have any explanation for her suddenly new behavior. I liked Cassie is S1 because she was so complex. Also Kat and McKay. WHAT THE FUCK??? I am just very disappointed in the writing, Sam ruined a lot of characters this season that I really liked in the first. Kat had a very intriguing storyline last season and she was reduced to a side character this season ( plus one of the only significant scenes she has involves her gaslighting Ethan….), Mckay is just gone, where did he go? Sam didn’t give us any explanation, he just helped carry Nate and then left :/, and Cassie’s character was almost completely destroyed this season. Cassie seemed to be heading down a path of self love, since she mentioned that this was the first time she hadn’t been in love with someone at the end of last season (and seemed at peace with that). But then Cassie started hooking up with Nate, which not only came out of left field imo, but all of their scenes together were very uncomfortable and hard to watch....I really wish a lot of these characters had a different storyline tbh.

@@JD-fz3hy That's very true, I just felt as though her demeanor towards not being in love with someone is very different in the second season than it is at the end of the first, at least in my opinion, which is why I thought it was inconsistent. At the end of last season she seemed much more at peace and ready to find herself, but this season she seems hellbent on denying the idea that she has a need for love, and instead of working through those issues by herself Sam gave her this plot with Nate, where she became very self destructive. I am not excusing all of the things she has done this season either, but I do wish that we got to see Cassie work through those issues and love herself instead of a thousand scenes of Cassie trying to get Nate's attention and convince herself that Nate loves her, when he really dosen't. With Gia I feel like they're setting up a confrontation similar to what happened this season between Lexi and Cassie, and it's kind of the only thing I'm looking forward to with the show at this point. I want her to have a chance to express herself in a similar way.

This show is just riddled with plot holes and continuity errors, what are they doing with this lingering Nate and Jules plot line? like they keep alluding to Nate wanting Jules for the past two seasons but it’s very sporadic to the point you forget thats a plot point, like his whole situation with Cassie was supposed to be him subconsciously substituting her for Jules, but it never goes anywhere, there were two instances this season where Nate was subconsciously thinking about Jules and it’s like ok we get it, we know Nate wants Jules but that it, plus Nate and Jules don’t even interact that much to keep you wondering where it’s gonna go, like he just randomly pulled up to her house and gave her the cd at the latter part of the season and that’s it

1) What was Elliot’s purpose outside of being a plot device? If you took him out, nothing would change. I’m convinced he’s a fever dream. 2) Faye’s purpose outside of being a plot device? (And low key having a crush on Fez.) 3) What was Samantha’s purpose? I assumed she was supposed to be a mentor and figure of hope and introspection for Maddy, but it got muddled with weak writing, lack of screen time, and a weird sexual energy between her and a literal minor. (I’m seeing a pattern, Sam…) 4) Is Lorie every coming to snatch Rue’s ass up? What drug dealer is this patient? “Im gonna sell you off to the highest bidder, but first character development.” Huh? 5) Not a question, but killing off Kat would’ve been nicer at this point. #justiceforkingethan 6) I’m so happy Nate got his ass beat, but why didn’t he retaliate against Fez? He literally gets everybody back in blood but with Fez it’s just “Fair enough🤷🏻‍♂️” #killnateseason3 7) Why introduce Fexi just to abandon it until the last 2 episodes and then send Fez to the slammer? 8) Why did Cassie go from a flawed but lovable character with real traumas to a shell of her former self with nothing left but…mental illness? It’s giving Jennifer’s Body: Male Identified Edition. 9) When did Ashtray become a mute? I’m assuming it was because Javon is going through puberty, but he went from being a fascinating character to Fez’s guard dog. #ripbenjaminbutton 10) I don’t have much to say about Gia, I just wanted to address her because the show doesn’t. 11) I understand everybody handles trauma differently, but why does Maddy seem so unfazed? What was the point of the gun scene? Trauma porn? I wish we got to see the toll Nate’s actions have taken on her, but instead we get Cassie crying naked…again. 12) Speaking of, I let out an audible sigh of relief every time we got through an episode without seeing Cassie naked. Sydney please get with Zendaya’s people and renegotiate your contract or something, we’re tired. 13) When will the parents, Lexi and Cassie’s mom especially take some accountability for how fucked up their kids are. Suze looked at her bad parenting and alcoholism in Lexi’s play and instead of getting embarrassed was living for it all. 14) I would’ve liked to see more of Jules issues with her mom or something other than an unnecessary cheating plot line. 15) WHO IS THE THIRD CHILD IN NATE’S FAMILY PHOTO. Sam, if you’re not gonna tell us, please stop giving us tight shots of it. At this point if it mattered, somebody in the family would have mentioned it, especially when talking about what turned Nate so cold as a kid (besides terrible parents and unchecked mental illness.) 16) Zendaya, Sydney, and Cal’s actor better do a clean sweep at the Emmy’s!

And even if she lied, she said what 18, 19? That’s barely legal. What is a grown man doing with a barely legal adult. Where you can easily lie bc physically the difference between a 17 year old and a 19 year old are very small. He shouldn’t even be messing let alone recording barely legal adults either. That’s just gross. They did not need Jules to cheat to tear the relationship apart. What they should’ve done is have an ep for Elliot so he is developed and is more interesting and well rounded character. @@jamangel yeah, really sad if it’s true. I had an Adderall addiction and that’s how some of my screenplays/book projects looked. Some parts were really awesome bc Adderall can be like brain steroids, but there’d be plot holes and rushed areas. They weren’t nearly as good and sane with logical continuity as when I am now sober. It would be easy for his staff to miss a lot of the problems since you film scenes out of order and he did such a brilliant job with season 1, they probably just assumed he knew exactly what he was doing. Like when Lexi’s play was crumbling and her assistant was like “wow, this must be on purpose. Lexi is brilliant”. Lol. I could be totally wrong so sorry for the long post, but it was cathartic to write the above stuff. That drug helps a ton of people but really fucked up my life and creative projects for 5 years. Edit to add: and i was able to seem professional enough to film scenes with a tiny crew (it was a student film). But I did have my main actor say I seemed kinda manic (but not enough to stop production or anything) since I’d come in and just slash shots and change the shot list on the spot. I read Sam doesn’t even come in with a shot list, which probably makes it all even more chaotic and non-linear. I don’t want to be a rumor spreader but if it were true, then maybe a rumor could get him help and save his life if no one knows. I almost died from that drug and got a lasting heart arrhythmia.

I thought the whole point of Cassie was to parallel Rue. They have similar backstory- being the older sister overshadowing the younger and dealing with the deaths of their fathers. She is spiraling at the same time as Rue with her low point coming at the same time as Rue. She’s just addicted to “love” to cope (or avoid coping) with her loss instead of drugs (maybe a little drugs too)

season 1 was pretty much perfect to me and i can’t find anything to complain about it, season 2 on the other hand there’s too much to complain about..

It was rumored that Kat’s character was supposed to develop an eating disorder but the actress was against it, so her role got chopped. Not sure how true or accurate that is though. I wished they gave her more in the second season too.

not to mention kat deserved to have more of a nuanced reaction to cassie and maddy’s break up. she vacillated between gassing maddy up on the phone and then trying to stop maddy smacking cassie. the kat from season 1 would’ve had a more nuanced or unique reaction than just maddy’s backup

My thing with Cassie is that I legit thought they were going somewhere with this and felt sympathy for her. Not because I agree with any of her actions. but because I thought she was legitimately going through a psychotic break. Where the reality in her head is not meshing with actual reality, where she legitimately could not differentiate right from wrong because her brain is firing off all cylinders. My dad went through one a couple years ago and he was like a comepletly unrecognizable person, running around calling my stepmother Judas and just acting completly out of character, and Cassies behaviour seemed very reminiscent of this. But unless they are spreading it into season 3 than I don't get it.

I definitely feel like the brain tumor thing was such a shitty plot for Kat. There were so many other plots Sam could’ve taken her character through …. No wonder she walked off set. Ashtrays death had me crying ugly tears for at least 2 days. It broke me down. I needed Maddy to curb stomp tf outta Cassie. That fight was anticlimactic asf.

Ehh. The only mean thing I saw was the carousel scene. She ain't need to do that, but hey we didn't see why she put it in there. Maybe the sisters had a moment after that scene. I mean the fact that Cassie went up on stage crying about being the villain was so pathetic. Literally everyone was confused. Folks were shocked when she put her business out there. Cassie was upset because she had to see for herself the depth of her betrayal, by showing her how deep her relationship with Maddy was and had to remember that's what she tossed in the garbage for male validation. That's why she is throwing a tantrum on stage since she thought it was gonna lead up to the betrayal.

The people saying Jules and Elliot are hypocrites for sleeping together and then telling Rue's mom about her addiction confuse me. The scene where Rue said "I forgive you." I was like FOR WHAT?! SAVING YOUR LIFE!!!
