Bhaswi Singh honestly it’s irritating to see people say he should be grateful and happy to be doing KB2. Like um no, the series is trash. The writing is terrible. His character has no development whatsoever. Like if I were in his position, I’d be miserable too (not saying he’s miserable but his lack of enthusiasm in promoting the movie is making people think he’s miserable). But unfortunately for him KB2 and KB3 were filmed back to back.

I’m with you and that’s defo the way it’s meant to be portrayed however the way Nate is developed makes no ounce of sense to me. SPOILERS Cos you can understand why he beat up Tyler because he thought he r worded Maddie. But then he blackmails Jules after flirting with her for a while and tried to exert power over her with no back story or indication that he’s got a screw loose. It just seemed to me the writer (Sam Levinson) wrote it this way to bring about a certain outcome but not one that made sense with the writing of the character. There are too many holes with a lot of the things characters did which seemed to me like the plot drove the characters rather than characters driving the plot.
@soulsearcher7077
@soulsearcher7077 4 жыл бұрын
ally He did not believe that man r*ped Maddie. He saw the numerous videos that were recorded of them having sex in that pool and she very clearly was enjoying herself. He also knew she was lying when she said what she said to him but in some psychotic coping/denial mechanism to keep their relationship alive and as way to provoke fear in her (in an indirect threat of harm to her through harming another person) he beats the bloody hell out of that college dude and makes sure to let her know what he’s done _and_ that it was because of/“for” her. After the guy is hospitalized he says something to her along the lines of, ‘I did this for you’, thereby simultaneously invoking guilt and fear in her. Sick and fucked up shit. Highly psychopathic if you ask me.

ally he grew up with an abusive power hungry dad that exerts complete control over his family. So when Nate sees Jules he see someone that is small and feminine that he can exert control over with his size and with blackmail, control that he doesn’t have in his everyday life. “His loose screws” were meant to be conveyed in his episode by showing his twisted relationship with both parents, him finding that video of his dad at such a young age, how he acts within his household or when his parents are around vs. how he acts at school with his friends and peers. When he’s with his friends and peers he doesn’t need a reason from them to try to get control or gain the upper hand because he’s just going to do it anyway cause that’s the only time he feels he can be fully in control.

Unpopular Opinion: The writers should’ve done way more with Mckay. His character is a perfect example of toxic masculinity and parents holding their kids up to such high expectations to the point where it becomes damaging to their mental health. Something that always bothered me was in Maddy's episode, they said she lost her virginity to a 40 year old man when she was like 14 but "she had the power". What the fuck???!! A minor can NEVER have the power in a situation like that smh
@ColastiaThunderfuck
@ColastiaThunderfuck 2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion that was the point. Rue is definitely an unreliable narrator, but communicates the perspectives of the characters. Maddie is an emotionally immature teenager who relies on her sexuality as a source of influence and power, without realizing how that opens her up to danger. I know many people with similar stories who lost their virginities to older people and thought they had the power in the moment, only to realize how much that experience messed them up later in life. I imagine Maddie later in life will realize how badly this has fucked her up. Honestly though I don't give the writers that much credit to have made that intentional, that was just my read of the line.

I think the portrayal of Rue's addiction was scarily accurate. It might feel like it was "all for nothing" to see her "end up in the same place" in the end, but that's usually how it goes. Recovery from drug addiction is not linear, and I think the frustrated reaction you had to her relapse was exactly what Sam Levinson wanted you to feel.

McKay is a black guy in college with a white high schooler girlfriend whose only personality trait is linked to sports (AKA his football, which also is rarely developed) with an absent black parent, anger issues, and he also forces himself on his said girlfriend then forces her to get an abortion. Rue is the only girl close to black and she has a lying problem and is a teenage drug addict who starts the series off in rehab then overdosed AGAIN in the last episode. Imagine thinking you’ll get anything other than stereotypical.

Euphoria hints at how people glamorize issues like sex drugs and abuse. Lexi for example is considered boring compared to her sister cassie and shes sad that she doesnt have as many love interests as her, yet cassie ended up having to get an abortion. And that one scene where nate and maddy walk into the party together. Its that thrill of having all eyes on you but nate abuses maddy and maddy would sacrifice someones whole life for nate. This is not okay at all.

About the "Larry" thing, I 100% agree with him being frustrated about this. He's shown many times he was uncomfortable with being shipped with his bandmates, and dismissing him because he hasn't made a song in a while feels direspectful. People are begging for this show to have a darker female character but it literally would not work out. From what I’ve seen from the casting calls and stuff, the only role that they have that people are asking for is a girl who is a stripper and the basic ghetto stereotype.. She would be the black character that we have been complaining about seeing on television, and I am tired.

The way McKay was forced to work harder by his dad was because he was the only black guy in a team full of white kids. And the fact that Gia gets into a relationship with McKay’s brother just shows that there wasn’t really any other black kids to be in a relationship with. And rue’s mother only being in relationships with white men. Like maybe rue isn’t aware of the struggles of being a black girl cuz she’s always blended in with all the other white kids at the school which contributed to her issues

Characters who need their own episodes in season 2 are: Fez, Lexi, Gia and I’ll go ahead and throw in Ethan, BB, Nate’s potentially not as shitty brother and... let’s go ahead and make no named dark-skinned cheerleader a character too. Things that might as well happen while we’re at it: let’s go ahead and make Fez, McKay, and Nates potentially not as shitty brother the same age so we can firstly give them all more age appropriate friends and secondly explain why McKay is friends with Nate to begin with. Can we also figure out how the aging scale in this show works too? Because Kat was in class with Jules at the beginning of the show and said she was 16 in the carnival episode but she should be 17 going on 18 since I’m assuming Lexi is in junior year with Rue (as they went to pre school together) and Jules which would mean Cassie is a senior so that should also make Kat, Maddie, and Bebe seniors as well. If they’re all Juniors and Cassie and Lexi are just Irish Twins then that makes her and McKay’s dynamic even weirder and just further highlights the need for him to have age appropriate friends.

What bothers me about the lack of dark skin representation is simply that there’s no reason why we can’t be represented. It wouldn’t make any difference to the story or plot if any one of the characters was dark skinned. The problem is that screenwriters can’t have a dark skin girl cast without having her whole storyline be focused only around her race and skin as if dark skin women don’t face any issues besides racial/colorist ones. Also, someone pointed this out in the comments, Asian representation is needed in this show👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I absolutely loved Euphoria though, it was an amazing show and like Amanda said, we’re demanding Fez and Lexi’s episodes next season otherwise we riot.

@Unknown gacha Its not a bad thing to talk about race at all but it becomes a problem when a character has no goals or personality and is defined solely by the racial issues they face. We have so many other parts of our lives separate from those issues and while they may be some parts of our lives influenced by said issues, there are so many nuances to us as people that its tiring to see us reduced simply to the color of our skin and the racism we face.

All of the relationships on this show are toxic and MESSY. There needs to be more representation of black girls instead of a biracial girl and her crew of white/ambiguous but you’ll know they’re Latinx because their last name is Martinez friends Edit: About my original comment, I wasn’t specifically targeting Maddy’s character or her actress. I was referring to how in media as a whole, too often they find the lightest possible Hispanic/Latinx person they can (or even a white person) and say “We’re diverse, this character isn’t white! Their name is Maria Martinez so they’re obviously not white!” While neglecting to give them an actual personality besides the diversity card. It wasn’t meant to specifically target anyone except for the writer who continue to do this.

Latinxs is the correct term for "Hispanics" which is a term used to identify people from spain. Latinxs is a term that is gender inclusive in the community and racial inclusive because Latinxs are both Black and White and all shades in between. Please educate yourself on the term Hispanics because it is incorrect. Also Martinez ? Really? Maddys last name was Perez. This just seems like someone who wants to stand up for Latinxs but doesnt know how to research and word your paragraph correctly.

Danielle Dominguez um I was told that Latinx is a term for people from Latin America, and Hispanics are Latinx people who speak Spanish. I have a friend from Brazil who’s Latina but not Hispanic, and she was the one who explained this to me. I hope it makes sense 😅 Not trying to re-explain anything to you (especially if you yourself are Latinx/Hispanic), just saying what I was taught because I was confused at some point and this explanation made the most sense to me. Danielle Dominguez I’m sorry for using the wrong term, I’ll change my comment. The statement about the last name was used to highlight how they’ll pick white passing latinx actors and the only way you can tell that they’re not white is because they’re given a clearly latinx name. Maybe instead of assuming my beliefs because of one misused word you could just correct me and move on but go off ❤️

Kat maybe was wrong. But I think people are forgetting that Maddy and Nate have this constant thing where they break up and get back together again. I’ve been Maddy before and my friends made it very clear after a certain point that they didn’t want to hear about the abusive guy I was dating. I also think people see Kat as the “fat friend” Maddy included. The fat friend is supposed to be available for emotional support, the voice of reason, she’s supposed to make the skinny friends feel better about themselves and I think Kat was done with that. Kat answered the phone, she heard what Maddy had to say but decided that what she wanted at the moment was more important thank Maddys second breakup of the month. Kat didn’t play into the fat friend trope and I love that about that scene. Like if we really pay attention to Kat, not once did we see her being her true self with her friends until she got into that argument with Maddy I don’t think she was comfortable with them, look who she was venting to about being a fat girl, one of her clients. I think their relationship Maddy, Cassie, and Kat was all very one sided. Everything was about the “pretty girls”.

Honestly I know Maddie's fashion is everyone's favorite in the show and the most popular, but Jules outfits ate all the girls up and no one talks about it. Like HEAR ME OUT: her fashion is representative of the trope of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Compared to other characters, her bubbly personality and fashion is played off like its fairy/ethereal-like and it makes the most sense when you understand the role of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl and fully explains the toxic (YES I SAID TOXIC!!!!) relationship dynamics with Rue. They are served to make the person who is falling in love with them the sole reason for their happiness and is seen as otherworldly/not like other girls type vibe. I love LOOOVVEEEEEEEE how Jules became self aware of it(roller rink with lexi/convo with dad) and decided to distance herself from that role she is being perceived as, subverting the role. That was such a smart move on the shows end and no one talks about it. But aside from that small tangent, Jules ate the girls up and I'm not debating that point😌 Edit: ok WOAH didn't know this got that man like I actually forgot about this comment lmao but THANK YOU SMMMM

@@17Jahseh17 Oh, don't get me wrong. The show is really good, I love it and can't wait for season 2! But *it's tiring to constantly being ignored by a media that's aimed at your demographic, but fail to represent someone who looks like you on it. Especially by a show that's being praised for being diverse and groundbreaking. Not to mention how non-poc - who clearly can't realte with your situation - always try to invalidate your feelings and opinions. Coming as far as accusing us of hating a show just because we made one valid criticism about it.* The U.S (just like the whole world) is so diverse but, in this case, when it comes to american teen shows it seems like they always go for the same types of teen characters - at least physically: - one light-skinned black (or, more often, biracial) girl who don't even have any other black interactions (like friends, lovers...) outside her own family; - one latinx/hispanic boy or girl; - one dark-skinned black male; - IF lucky, one asian character in a secondary role; - and the rest of the cast tends to be white. *Young american black girls shouldn't have to settle for biracial/light-skinned girls as their only "representation" since they don't have the same experiences at all. And their experiences deserve to be on the screen too.* They shouldn't have to resort to, for eg, South-African shows like "Blood & Water" either to finally see people who look like them on the screen, because an american teen experience is also different from a south-african teen experience. Honestly, the only dark-skinned black girls I can remember are: *Josie* who was removed from Riverdale as soon as her character didn't serve Archie's anymore; and *Annie* from 13 Reasons Why, but we know nothing about her life. She's just there as to narrate S3 events; support the main characters and being romantically involved with a rapist. So.... yeah.

as somebody who struggled with addiction at Rue's age (I'm 20 now), I was so hesitant to watch the show when it came out because I was worried that they were going to portray that situation unrealistically, or even worse, glamorize it. but I was blown away with how accurate and honest those scenes were, especially since it was a young girl in high school. the details felt so real and hit so incredibly close to home. obviously, I'm only speaking from MY personal experience, and I'm sure Rue's story wasn't accurate or similar to everyone's, but it struck such a deep chord in me. in movies/shows, most stories that tackle the brutality of addiction fail to recognize that many people with addiction DO function, they CAN still go to school and live a semi-normal life. that's why so many don't get help until they can't manage anymore. that's also why it can go so unnoticed to the people around you. you can feel like you're drowning yet nobody seems to notice until its too late. that's the truth for many people who slowly get sucked into things like opioids or stimulants. I think it was extremely ballsy to actually admit that drugs can be fun, but that's one of the reasons why I loved the way it dealt with the storyline. it's honest. it shows WHY she got hooked and didn't shy away from the truth. and then to show the pitfalls of it and consequences and the way it can quickly ruin your life...yeah, I just appreciated it a lot. a huge reason why people get hooked is because they try drugs and realize it makes them feel better than they ever have, and that's not something any adult or educational program would (usually) dare to admit. I don't view it as glamorization at all. I view it as honesty. it was saying, "hey, yeah, this stuff can make you feel on top of the world. but you will hit the lowest lows you've ever experienced afterwards, so those few moments are never, ever worth it." I genuinely believe that's more effective than saying, "drugs are bad! they will make you crazy and you'll die or go to jail!!1!1!!!" scare tactics can only go so far. but I respect those who disagree with me and still say it glamorizes drug use. though I would argue against that for a multitude of reasons, I'll just leave it at that. I'll admit, I can definitely see the concern for really young viewers (like under 17 or 18 y/o) who are seeing drug use in a show for the first time. I could see how kids and young teens may not fully grasp what they show is trying to say. but, it IS rated TV-MA for a reason, you can't blame HBO for young kids watching it behind their parent's backs or something. still, I understand I guess.

I haven't finished the video yet, but the scene where the teacher asks Rue to talk about her summer in front of her class really hit me. Without exposing myself too much, when I was in 11th grade, I spent two weeks in the hospital due my depression, and obviously my mum called my teachers just to letting them know I wouldn't be going to school for a while. Days later, my friends came to visit me at the hospital which surprised me (since apart from the teachers, no one else was supposed to know I was there) and that's when they reluctantly told me that one of our teachers (the only male one) revealed the whole class my situation. According to my friends, one of my two female teachers had lost someone during that time, so she broke into tears and left her room. It was such a d!ck move! I became so anxious that I asked my doctor to delay my return to school for a couple for more days, just so I could prepare myself for the possible questions I'd get. Fortunately, my classmates were very respectful, didn't ask me sh!t and agreed that teacher was an idiot.

I'm sorry this is long but I really love Zendaya and as much as people are entitled to their opinions she really did well on the show.

I had a lot of issues with some of the color blind casting especially in McKay’s case. I feel like his storylines were the least realistic and his role seemed like the typecast white jock. Also, I love that Euphoria is portraying the “hot guy” (Nate) as the main villain because that’s usually how it is in real life. I have met guys who are just as evil as Nate, so they were spot on with that.

Mckays story about having to suppress his emotions fits him as a black male. It makes sense that his father is the one that tells him to do that, especially considering the fact that, they’re literally in a white dominated neighborhood where kids don’t have any problem w throwing racial slurs around. His dad telling him that if he lets his emotions lose then he “loses” is also realistic, because we know that a black boy fighting a white boy, even if the white boy is in the wrong would probably end with the black boy being portrayed as violent

For what it’s worth, she likely wasn’t exercising or anything. Drinks like that are just empty, delicious calories. I think Harold on Hey Arnold gained a ton of weight while he was on vacation. In general, it seems easy for children to gain weight. The same thing happened to me when I was little.

@@lanakat That’s not really Euphoria’s responsibility though. Of course, Louis has the right to be upset about it but them making a clear mockery and joke of fanfiction is just that, a joke. It was never portrayed as something realistic or serious. He can’t dictate if ppl reference it or not when it was a big part of 2000’s kids culture growing up.

Unpopular opinion: I'm not mad that Euphoria doesn't give dark skin girls representation. Let's honest here. If a dark skin girl was cast on this show, her character would be written in a negative stereotypical light. I don't need to see a dark skin girl acting like a crackhead.

True, and if they were to put a dark-skin girl in WITHOUT her acting like a crackhead, most likely she would have been portrayed as a teenage prostitute or something. Why? Sam Levinson, I guess.

Something I like about Euphoria is the fact that Jule’s being a transgender woman wasn’t something that was greatly focused on (although that is obviously an important part of who she is) and they made her more than just her body you know? I agreed that Jules wasn’t the best person ever but I also thought it was important to realize that Jules had a lotttt of shit going on. Nate blackmailing her, her family issues with her mother, Rue depending on her to stay sober, that’s a lot of stress for a person to be under especially given everything she is going through

Yes! I love the fact that Jules was a mess. Half the time when they add minorities to shows they make them perfect people because they’re afraid of upsetting viewers, and then their minority is their only personality trait, leading the characters to come across as one-dimensional, and making it feel that the character is part of a minority just to fill a quota.

Honestly, Louis’s anger about the fanfic was understandable... a lot of celebrities no matter what dislike shit like that. HOWEVER it’s not like what the show did was new. Girls back then did that a lot on Wattpad and still do. So this wasn’t anything new. That scene was iconic because of how relatable it was to all of us in middle school. But like I said Louis had a right to be pissed. I mean if I was shipped with Harry, hey thank god, but Louis must’ve felt uncomfortable

I was Kat back in HS (except the cam girl/pay pig bits), so I was totally OK with her not responding to Maddie's cry for help. Kat was definitely the "fat friend"/mother hen of that group. Maddie could have called Cassie or BB (IDK??...the one that vapes and has no actual story besides being Greek chorus/instigator). Note the pecking order. When they slept over at Maddie's, Kat is always on the floor, not sharing the bed with Maddie. Kat's "empowerment" may still be based heavily on male gaze and tends to ignore her insecurities and self-esteem issues, but I was good with her not being the mule for her friends with "boyfriend" issues on the simple fact she didn't have a boyfriend and was a virgin. And I also get the feeling Maddie can be kinda needy for affirmation and looks to her friends to give it to her, regardless of what they may be going through and in her view, her pretty privilege makes her a higher priority.

I absolutely agree- I just wish they’re relationship had been more fleshed out. I really liked how they didn’t do the yypical “jealousy” trope and pit the two of them against eachother. Instead Kat just kinda stood up for herself. It’s just it kinda came outta nowhere and left almost as quickly, like I feel like, there should’ve been an explanation, like Kat should’ve been like “babes im not ur emotional support dog who u can call all the time I’m my own person” or something like that idk
