When we start making our own items, backpack, tent, etc. I have had to correct unexpected problems as I go along. Hopefully, it is a learning process, otherwise we shouldn't try! I am still learning! I have different sewing machines, industrial compound, an expensive modern embroidery machine and a large selection of vintage domestic machines, and, at the moment, my go to machine is one of my Singer 201's. (The Singer Scottish factory made green machines, not as vibrant as your green machine 😃.) Thank you for showing your work! You inspire potential seamsters!

I've never built a tent, and I know nothing. If the tarp is wide enough, and had some loops, I think you're right, that mesh would snug right up. I hope there us a part 2 soon, showing your changes/updates. Cheers Sew Hard!

Thanks for the vid. A needle feed machine was recommended to me for this type of fabric. Sort of a walking needle instead of the foot.

First of all, Looonng time subscriber, I have loved and learned lots from your channel. 2nd thanks for the tips on the tent build as I was thinking about trying to tackle something like this also. 3rd, I somehow missed your review of the worker bee setup. You see I've had an old Thomson PW 103-A-GBP that I picked up from a guy a few years ago, paying way more than I should have thinking that it was way more of a machine that it is frankly, as soon as I seen the worker bee set up I've wondered if it would work for the Thomson. After seeing your review I can't wait till I can order the set up from sailrite. Again thanks a bunch for your content and keep em coming! I'd start with a pattern for the first tent myself. I bought the dubber design Kensho 2 pattern and also the Bilgy tarptent...I don't trust myself with creating a good design yet.

Great video as always. Quite enjoyable and certainly inspiring. I might not make a tent today, but maybe a stuff sack. If that fails, it will be known as a pot-holder. ; ) Such a nice job on the green-machine paint scheme!

Hey jason, its an informative video. If you looze the the line to the top of the tub, and increase the hight of your poles the inner would be good I think. The corners of the tarp would come in and youwould be close except for the doors I would think

I want to make a square tent that I could throw over my thule truck bed racks that would drape below the bed rails. Maybe a mesh design with a removable hardshell to put over for wind, rain or snow. Your videos help inspire these ideas.

a tent design i wanna make is an alaknak clone. but instead of a pole kit my idea would be some lashing cords attached and a 'rope measuring tool' for going out and finding the right wood... same for the center pole. real quick, it is a 12 x 12 tent, 4 foot wall, pyramidal apex with vent at top and an awning attached to the doorway and proped up with(my idea, they use a bent pole->) two branches lashed. this saves like 40 pounds of steel poles. the alaknak tent body is like 33-35 pounds. there are other mods id like to do like built in organizer on a wall,, like a shoe organiser for a door but more spec'd for the need,, some other stuff.. hooks on the window zips and wider spanning windows for the sake of light mounting points(from experence, solved with "Sugru(r)" last time") and something Perfect that props out away from a wall inside with a spar and has a little clothesline! no b.s. a clothes line along the side of a wall works pretty nice, keeps the ceiling space. i would make the floor out of a heavy duty cheap tarpaluin material because the way a tent's floor works in a tent that big is, it gets used and ruined and you tape it or replace it. the stove jack needs a better system .. but another part of this project id like to see happen is have 'feild schematics' so if a panel got really screwed then a whole new panel could be cut out, and attached and no matter the rest of the material's sag, age, creep,, whatever,,, the new panel will be proper and ready to continue the design's tradition correctly.(yes feild stiching a tent like this could be a Killer task if a panel needed replaced. i would use a curved needle, waxed floss, heavy duty clips, take the tent down-not keep it up like many times/situations) there was a famous guy who sheared out dome tents, famous guy, in i forget,, 80's? i wish i could recall his name because im sure interesting knowledge could be gleaned. if oak tag patterns can be cut for the tent then that would really help getting the panels just right. get some musin man

I've done some similar 'experiments', some worked out great, others...I found problems when using them, usually with sizing.

For the corners of the bathtub floor you could try using shock cord out to the stakes or to the edge of the fly.

i use muslin to realize designs without wasting fabric. rolled hem feet are nice.

It seems like if it ere pitched higher your netting would be more taught, your bathtub would be a bathtub and your fly doors will be closer to coming together. You've probably figured it out by now.

I sewed a similar path, with similar results, then I turned the tent into a tarp and bought a tent.

Whoaaaa that green Singer reveal!! It's absolutely awesome. I hope you got enough footage from the restoration job to make a video about it :D As far as the tent goes, it looks to me like the problem with the pitch is that the tarp and the mesh tent don't fit each other correctly. If you pitch the mesh tent by itself, can you get it taut?

awesome video i never would have thought about a tent i do have a waxed canvas tarp i have from a bedroll i made for myself sew and waxed the tarp myself that was a learning experience to i am been, homeschooled yes i did learn to sew and read and make a pattern to seem as i know how to weld and do many more jobs to pick up leatherwork when i worked in the trades i don't anymore my partner pasted away i did not pick up my welding cables he and my with his truck are still their fences now has been put around were we worded last the welding jacket i make for him had been still hanging when he put it too i do enjoy my life now and would miss the time i missed with animals now to i took over the farm the last 5 years have been very bad for me my family said after my stepbrother and my best friends died the same day and a baby bear cub shown up both of our spirits they say here us 2 goofing off in the wind together they said we come out of NOWHERE to and don't leave any tracks to i have made the farm mine now too George, he tags along where i goit was very early in the morning we came back into the town to pick at fresh horses and food and more info on who i was looking for George was taking the sunrise up as he does in the morning sleeping throw it lol a vehicle stopped and a person run out and taken a selfie of George he killed her right there he no longer able to go to town the town did catch it on a cam and George was cleared of any wrongdoing too as to the person i was tracking he, last his footing and died he got want was coming to him to

Your tub is suffering from "you can't push a rope", the top of the tub needs tying up higher and it will work. All those tents on the market went through a dozen prototypes before they figured out how to get it working and then simplifying for production. Their product demo talked about the downward sloping netting attached to the top because I am sure their first prototypes had it up sloping and dew ran down the netting into the tub. The reference tent design, while interesting, I kept thinking of how many extra straps and ties they used to compensate for issues that you're seeing. Their tent is not a fast setup tent, that you'd want after a long day hiking or when caught in a storm. Opportunities for improvements on yours. I missed where you had an estimate of material costs 'so far' for those recreating your tent process, if not in the video that would be a good addition to the notes, even if it's a rounded number. Next up tackle an 'Alaskan wall tent' like that used on the Bushradical channel 'living in a wall tent 2020' where he goes over all the major tent features. Perhaps a channel collaboration opportunity to get design notes and measurements from them.
