You are a great example for your kids. I wish you the best. I went to med school at 36 and now 6 years later, I am in my second year of residency. The sacrifice is real. The grind is real. The fear is real. I’m so glad I’m not the only crazy person that’s doing this! lol 😅

Lol, awake working on research, get to see this on a break and make the first comment, woo! Keep at it Antonio. I'm right there with you, I'm a young kid at 46 though! Let's get efficient for M2. I have to look out for stopping lecture so much to clear stuff up, and I gotta get to bricks and bootcamp or even just anki more. Your advice reminds me, we have to gulp up volume without getting hung up on details. Note taking can go both ways. I think it's good. But right, honestly, you have to be sure it's honestly going to truly help. Absolutely, we HAVE to drop perfectionism, and for these first two years, I think we have to drop thoroughness in some ways (sadly, it's not great to think that about medical training, but with 2000 slides per test, you just can't be thorough). Keep the strength non-trad brother!

It's good to know somebody can identify with the journey! I am up working on applications for the congressional scholar program and the medical MBA program. Why am I such a glutton for pain? LOL. Thanks for watching my video!

Being a future nontraditional medical student (hopefully) and a father myself, this hits close to home for what I might expect when I get into medical school. I need to work on how I gather and retain information and also take care of my body. Also, the closest school to us is about 2 hours away and we don't plan on moving the whole family. I'll be 36 this year (working on my first undergrad degree) and I'm really hoping to get accepted into med school by age 42. Despite the sacrifice, I bet your kids are incredibly proud of you for pursuing your passion. You sound like a great father.

Thank you so much for this video!!!! I’m 41 starting medical school soon. I’ve been a cvicu nurse for 20 yrs now, and am making what I considered a bold choice. This has been a lifelong dream, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to do it. Again, thank you. 🙏🏼❤️

That's awesome! I'm working towards my first degree (I'll be 36 in September) and I don't have nearly as much medical experience as you but I am truly hoping to be accepted into medical school by age 42.

I needed to see this. I am 42 years old, I am a nurse practitioner from Texas. It was my dream to be a doctor but for many reasons I won’t get into here I chose a different path. I am now living and working in Sweden as a nurse. I am trying to decide if I’ll go to med school at my age with my biggest concerns being the grind. I am not a young guy anymore. Here in Sweden med school is 6 years but it’s free although salaries in Sweden are really low, basically what a nurse makes in the USA.

It is definitely a grind. My best advice is to pursue what your true passion is.

Med school is full time job. I found that time management is essential. Sitting in lectures was no good for me. I had the syllabus, notes from friends etc. I developed routine. Woke at 8. Ate and went to library until lunch. 60 minute lunch then study until 4:30. Diner. Then to gym, walk, date, whatever. Maybe little studying in evening. Sitting in lecture was waste of time. I did great and loved school. Need to still have a life.

Stuff on the whiteboard- cancer drugs, I found your channel, your an inspiration to me. 46 years old and applying soon. I work as a physician assistant but wanting to go back to be a psychiatrist. Just have to remember to keep my comments to myself, when the doctors, residents- -try to humiliate/ dehumanize you in front of other students/staff for their ego.

Writing things down are good but sometimes I think we don't take notes appropriately. When you take your first set of notes it is okay to go back and condense your notes two smaller bite-sized pieces. And to paraphrase difficult Concepts. And I'm not sure if you're using the method acting like you're teaching someone to become a teacher as well when you're going over those Concepts. If you know this just confirming what you already know and if you find it useful I'm happy to have helped.

Is it not possible to work part time as a nurse during medical school? I’m asking for a friend
@StudentDoctorAntonioPatterson
@StudentDoctorAntonioPatterson 10 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say it is "impossible" but it would be very difficult. If part time is 20 hours or less per week then it is possible.

@@keisha2778 I’m a father of two and the sole provider currently… it would be hard for me to go to med school and not be able to work.. so I’m considering LVN instead.. are you able to bridge to RN and then maybe a program to get into MED school later?

80 hours a week for study? that's 10h daily? wtf that's a whole day studying

Usually about 4 hours of watching lectures plus another 3 hours per lecture for review. So about 12 hours just on material.plus OMM review and doing practice questions. 80 hours is a light week! LOL
