I Made & Paid for an Art Show Commercial (was it worth it?)

I made a commercial to promote that I was exhibiting at the Las Olas Art Fair in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I paid for that commercial to be shown over 40,000 times in the week leading up to the art show. Did it have any impact on the show at all?

It was a risk, but it paid off this time. Hopefully it brought some buyers for other artists as well.

Absolutely! Very positive results, very quickly. I was pleasantly surprised. I was also happy to hear other patrons mention seeing it. Hopefully they bought from other artists who were there!

Thanks for sharing these results! I've had a lot of success using FB ads with a lookalike audience from the geographical area of the show.

I’ve done successful FB & Instagram ads before but I have a theory that because people scroll those social media apps so fast and usually with the sound off, that people are more likely to be influenced by a YT video ad that they watch with the sound on and don’t skip over. I’ll probably do some more like this. The reach I got for the money I spent was MUCH greater than any other social media ad I’ve ever run.

Thanks for the video. I was new to fairs of any kind last year and planning to do more art fairs this year. Unfortunately, I missed out on applying to the "Florida swing" for the most part this year but for sure hoping to get there for shows next year. I am based out of Kansas so a bit of a drive, but definitely worth it to get away from our cold weather. Encouraging to see that you are going down there and doing well and also interesting hearing about the ad impact and type of ad, etc. Best of luck and maybe I will see you this year if I come down there for a photography trip!

Great video! Thank you for always sharing your tips and being so open about everything, a lot of photographers at these shows tend to gatekeep information, but not you. It was great to finally meet you at the Las Olas art show, and we love the art piece I bought, and I'm happy to support someone who has been so helpful to me. Hopefully one day I'll have a booth next to yours! And yes, Brevo is great. Any tips with the contact lists? Seems a tiny bit confusing if I'm trying to resend a campaign email if people join my list after that campaign already went out. Keep up the great work.

Gatekeeping hurts the entire community, there’s no place for it. While there may be a few that withhold info, I think you’ll find that most artists in the festival community are pretty helpful. On Brevo, there is a way to send an email to people who were added to a list after a specific date that you can set. I don’t recall the specific steps to make that setting, but it’s there somewhere. I’m thinking about a few ways to measure the impact of running ads like this. Having a handful of people mention seeing it without any prompting is a pretty great response, I think. See you next week!
