The dress in the movie was based on an actual historic piece. To recreate historical fashion in miniature and have it look that good is simply amazing. I'm so impressed by your mom.

Love watching you and your mother craft these gorgeous creations. The “umbrella” is actually a parasol. Made of lighter fabrics, or just lace, it was used to shade a woman from the sun (para means shield, sol means sun). The elite ladies considered it more a tool than an accessory, as it was primarily used to a) keep her skin fair, b) keep her shoulders and head from getting hot, and c) as a status symbol. And with all those layers, poor Rose was definitely in need of some shielding from the heat of the day. Luckily, her oversized hat was there to assist.

My grandmother also told me the parasol over the hat was to keep the hat from getting ruined by the sun, wearing a hat that was discoloured and no longer mathcing the outfit would have been socially uacceptable.

I love these doll repaint videos and it’s amazing to see you do a repaint on someone that means so much to you 🥰 I think it’s important for us all to remember, though, that these people aren’t just characters, and the titanic isn’t just a movie. Watching your mother at work reminds me of mine, who sewed for a living. She really is an artist. To have the spatial awareness to design and construct a pattern like this and put it all together is a wonderful gift. I love it when you two collaborate on a project. I could watch her sew all day.
