I had only heard and seen a video about it a day ago. I was blown away by the art style, and the concept of it. I went to the steam store but couldn't find it...only the island creator. That didn't bode well, but just to make sure, I went to the games webpage, and that's when I learned that it had shut down a year prior. I was so sad that I would never be able to experience such a game, even though I know I would suck.

This game broke my heart when the servers got taken down, I used to be a member of the mighty Atlas Federation. We had our Island in T4 that we called home, had a giant floating bank armed to the teeth in a cave beneath and it really felt like coming home to family each day when we would all log on to find out what was happening today. Crafting battle ships in the early morning hours, just so we would not get surprised while building. The community created Islands were mesmerizing and in no other game was there ever a grappling hook, a glider or magnetic boots that felt more appropriate and awesome to use. By far the most fun I've had was to battle other big alliances with our maxed out Titanium Battle Cruiser with a Crew of 8 each. I agree with your point 100% that with a little more aggressive marketing ( youtube ads or some bigger KZfaqrs ) and a slightly lower price it would have taken off. Could there not be the chance that the tech (which did not completely belong to bossa ) will be outdated soon and may be released to the public? Bossa said that was all that kept them from releasing the game to private servers. I really hope someone with enough money may try to bring it back to life, if that's possible. There seem to be thousands of players that were just waiting for it to be a bit more completed and that would come back in an instant. Everyone I know from back then misses this game specifically like hell, there was nothing that came close to the sense of freedom, exploration and emotions while flying through this beautiful world with a good crew. we even picked up people in the starter zones and made them our recruits and brought them to T4 and mentoring them to strengthen our alliance. My dream had always been a central sky city, with PVP disabled for people to find crews to join, shop and trade before going out to the adventures.

Fond memories come from everywhere when i look back at this game. From messing around with something as simple as a log, to something like crossing the entire map to make a bit of bread. I can confidently say this was the best game i have ever played, and if i had the talent and knowledge to make games i would try my very hardest to make this game come back to life. Even if i could only play a 4 player coop version that was hosted on one of the player's computers, that would be enough for me. I want this game to come back, but i don't think it ever will.

i remember i got this game a month before it was taken away an i remember 2 great moments :1 number 1 i was hiding on a island working on my ship when all of a sudden two random people land beside me an begin giving parts off their large ship to me! they help me understand the build mechanics an what each part did, then they flew off never to be seen again. :2 that same ship got attacked later on by the flying mobs while i was moving from island to island, an i was swinging around on my grappling hook trying to shoot them off when i smash into my desired location, my ship is fine but the mobs are still tearing it apart but another random player who watched me crash ran over an shot them down for me, we laughed an joked for awhile about how crazy an cool i looked from his perspective. in short i loved this game an haven't had any experiences this wholesome in a pvp server since. this game was special an peaceful an for some reason didn't encourage players to grief despite me playing a pvp server. i can confidently say there will never be another game like worlds adrift or an effective replacement.

This game was phenomenal for what it was. It felt great being the captain of a pirate crew where we would mug everyone we came into contact with for rare materials (and occasionally dump excess mats on whatever Island they spawned back on so they could build another ship to gather more later on). I will never forget the first time we tried to cross the stormwall and lost a ship we put a lot of time and effort into, only to build a far better, far more lethal ship by the time we managed to get into the T3 areas, to eventually popping out of the T4 areas to wreak havoc wherever we went with our jet engine equipped, tungsten armored dreadnaught. I just wish there was more variety to the player combat aside from just shooting each other with pistols until one side finally destroyed the other's core or spawners, but the ship on ship combat was amazing.

Wonder if my crew (New Saborian Empire) ever came across yours with our pirate hunting 'battle cruiser' as we called it. Double hulled (lvl 8-10 tin) in the most likely places to be shot, six guns in front, four in rear, and three on each side (two of the front guns could cover the sides somewhat, and one each of the sides could cover the rear somewhat), a few shots for defence, and our three maxed out center cannons (two front, one rear facing) for the long game, with the engine power to go 25-35(can't recall exactly) at full (though the full cost was big at anything over 20), and wing strength to barrel roll and loop at will. Our favorite tactic was get all available crew on the front facers, go to max altitude, half roll the over, and just point the guns 'up' as we dived at whoever we were fighting (usually coming to the aid of a friend/ally or just responding to a call for help from some newbie we helped who had one of our contact details on discord). We never lost that main ship (aside from the server resets), our three secondary ships though (while they had a similar look also having tin hulls if smaller and less armament and faster then the main ship) (and not including our bank ship), I think we replaced all but one of them at least once (again not including the server resets). Oh sure, there were more then a few battles we limped our way home missing more then a few hull panels (one battle I remember we couldn't walk in portions of the lower deck due to both layers of hull being shot out down there, and missing more then a few wings and some of the less powerful guns). But that was at the height of our crew when we had about 20 of us playing at our busiest, at the end, I think we had maybe 6 or 7 of us that still got on regularly so we only had the 'battle cruiser' for doing stuff as crews, the bank ship to store our loot, and our personal ships for solo stuff. One time though at the height of our crew we had all four of the crew ships on, 8 on the BC, and 4 each on the three smaller cruisers and we were just having fun patroling in what we considered our 'home' T3 sector (we kept the bank ship in a nearby T1) around each ship on their own (about 2-3 minutes from each other) at 1/3-1/2 throttle doing crazy stunt flying because we could when our leader with me on the BC (I was the ship owner and I was piloting) gets a message on discord that another crew is being jumped by three pirate ships in our sector at a nearby island to the BC so we go full throttle, get a quick message to the three other ships to head for that island. Now while our cruisers were faster then the BC, we were the closest ship to the island and were actually almost within sight/sound of the fight when we got the message so within 10-20 seconds of full throttle we had them in sight, and that was the first time I had that particular crazy idea I mentioned above and started to climb, told the guy downstairs to finish filling the tanks and get up here and on a gun, told the chief to get on the right forward long gun(the forward long guns had left and right firing arcs), and everyone else to man the forward guns and to target the middle pirate, at which point they all started complaining that they didn't have a shot due to us climbing, I told them just wait a second, you will, everyone needs to be on a gun first. Once they were all on the guns (more on the right fronts then lefts, even though that middle pirate was to the LEFT of our bow) I told everyone to hang on tight, stay on your guns at all costs, and rolled the ship over so that the middle pirate was now sitting to the RIGHT of our bow and 'above' it. Well, we then started to open fire as well as diving at the pirates, managed about a 60-70% hit rate (near 100% on the long gun), and thanks to the pirate trying to climb at us to retalliate, well that allowed us to loop around him firing nearly the entire time. I can recall seeing a few hull panels, one gun, at least one engine, and one wing falling to the depths from that loop and smoke and sparks just trailing from that ship after our loop around it. What it looked like to the pirates I don't know, but I do know from our acquaintances who told us later that our appearance and diving attack on that one pirate ship caused the other two ships to stop firing on them for several seconds as they tried to figure out what the hell was going on. Of course the pirates turned their attention fully onto us and for a minute or so we had a 3 on 1 battle going on (the one ship we came to help was only a few shots from sinking at this point and was just trying to limp away while doing a few emergency repairs in case the pirates turned to them again) and even though we had taken a good chunk out of the one ship the pirates thought they had the advantage and shouted at us to stand down, give them enough loot, or lose our nice shiny ship. Except about the time two of them were swinging to try and fling themselves onto the BC, well actually those two had a stroke of bad luck as two of nine cannon shots from the three cruisers were a bit low and somehow managed to hit the swingers *POOF* no more swingers for a bit, the other seven initial shots hit one of the two undamaged ships and now we're in a nice 4 v 3 battle. I think that engagement went on for about 10 minutes before the pirates tried to flee, unfortunately for them two of their ships were heavily damaged by this time and ended up sinking to the depths, the third one did manage to get away, though it was missing all the wings on one side, and was down most of it's guns by the time it managed to get out of range of our cruisers ( did run into that particular pirate later on who did ask us how powerful the long guns on the BC were as we were still able to shoot at them for another minute (if I remember correctly the original long guns base power on the recipe was in the 190s and with the level 10 mats was up in the 250s or higher, it was about 4-5 years ago for those particular guns, I do recall when we tested them they had an insane range, could shoot through the walls (tested by having a second ship on the other side and watching the shots fly over head and nearly hit island way beyond them), and could sometimes one shot lower quality items)). Then we went helped our acquaintances get their ship skyworthy again, gave them a sky core upgrade or two, some higher Q engines/wings (we were always doing stuff like that, rarely gave out the best Q stuff we had, usually a tier lower, but better then what they had) and off into the sky we all went. Those were the days, just flying between the islands, no matter what you were doing. The journey through the skies was the whole point of WA, and my crew lived the journey our way. As I said above we were pirate hunters, a bit like the Coast Guard, but we were also explorers, treasure hunters, and always travelers. Many a day we'd get on and with no destination in mind, just set out heading 'THAT WAY' picking up fuel along the way, checking the chests we find for new knowledge, recipes, and higher Q loot, but mostly just traveling and enjoying the journey. Often you could find us goofing around on the deck as we sailed along, or sitting on the side/wings and just looking out there as it all passed by. The few members of my crew that still stay in contact from time to time all miss those journeys drifting through the skies of that world, that world adrift. For any of you who stuck around to read all of my rambling of some of my memories of WA, I thank you. Ruthgar

The materials and finding the upgrade things was a bit tedious though. Also the pvp aspect made it difficult to play at times due to anxiety. I can recall like one fun interaction with a player but most of them were just stress inducing. In fact the last time I can recall playing I had to quit after getting chased for like two hours by some group and I'm not even sure I'd my ship remained safe or not.

I remember playing by myself, listening to the music and hanging off of my ship as it flew. The adrenaline rush I felt trying to get passed that first wind wall. Then seeing all of the beautiful player created islands with secret areas with items in them. It was a magical experience for me, I don't play MMOs often, barely ever. But I loved WA as it was. I remember flying about my business and I started to get shot out of the sky by another player. My ship was starting to "sink" and I had to crash land on an island with a giant hotel on it. After I crashed and my ship broke the player left through a windwall. I had to rebuild using scraps from the island I was already on. Turns out a lot of fights happened there, so there was a lot of scrap and ship parts there. I ended up building another ship from destroyed ships and sailing out of there better than when I had crashed there. It was such a memorable experience for me, the fact that an MMO made me appreciate losing a fight is just awesome.

The shipbuilding was by far my favorite part of the game. Unlike most building games the shipbuilding was alot less modular and you had far more creative freedom over the placement of items. The crafting / material grade system gave every schematic you learned so much varied potential in quality and performance from one player's ship to another. The realistic physics of how your ship handled based on the exact placement of wings and engines or of heavy equipment on-board made every craft, regardless of the quality of materials or schematics unique and special, and even moreso when it was your own ship. Just flying around from island to island on my ship felt special, and often times I'd cut the engines as I passed over an island and let the ship drift in while I appreciated the view, the sunrise, the soundtrack, and that weird but welcome feeling of being at peace... in those moments the world was mine, and mine alone. I long for those days and I hope someone comes along that brings World's Adrift back, or accurately recreates what made it so special to me.

i too hate that its gone...i played the game the day before they shut it down and have some vids on my phone of me watching a couple guys finish building their ships and flying off. After WA shut down i decided that Bossa doesnt need my money and ill just spend it elsewhere.

@@lilredwagon5311 lack of advertising was a big cause and effect of them losing funds. Them keeping the server up was running them under. This game touched my heart and soul. I once betrayed a crew of about 5 kids after we built our ship I taught them a way to use other people left over schematics in high level areas to make ur own Frankenstein high level ship and we did it and we won so many pvp matches and got away from close calls…. But I betrayed them…. I feel almost as if this betrayal killed the game. They held onto the ship after they got back from farming realizing I destroyed the respawners on the ship and I stayed dead quiet while they begged me to stop flailing in the air….. I parked the ship high up and logged off for good. god forgive me for that day… I went back to find the ship and the servers were down…. hope those old mates of mine got to play their final hours and I didn’t ruin it. If they ever read this and are older now they still don’t get why I did that and probably hate me and I deserve it. We got through wind sand and storm walls together for me to abandon them for no reason other than at that time internet trolling was fun to me. This is my lament on worlds adrift I guess

Thank you i needed this hope they either mange to re write it so it can be open souce(Dont know why they whould do that tho) or just open the servers again

In 2021 i still miss this game so much.. i had over 2k hours on it and sooooo many stories, ship designs and islands created. Every now and then i think to myself "If i will the lottery, i would buy Worlds Adrift, put a dev team on it to have stable servers and its gonna be the biggest game EVER". I would have a Offline creator mode where you can free design your ship to blueprint it later ingame, I would also have a server that runs 10v10 brawl in 1 zone with prebuild 1man ships and last player survives wins. The main servers would be exacly the same as they were, but with smarter programming so it would cost less with upkeep ofc :P, but huge expanding zones with different biomes. PVE and PVP zones, everything but still without a main purpose, because that freedom is what made Worlds Adrift sick. For money i would have skins, clothes, cosmetics OR ppl hosting their own servers like Rust. I MISS YOU GODDAMIT WORLDS ADRIFT COME BACK TO ME

I never played this cause I didn't have a computer at the time. I saw so many videos of this and wanted to play it so badly. In late 2018 I finally got a computer. A few months after I got it I remember this game and looked for it everywhere and found nothing but the island creator. I looked it up on google and almost cried when I saw that it was gone. This was the coolest game I had ever seen. Its loop looked so simple yet so satisfying and fun. This was my dream game. The game people go to and then stick to forever. I have yet to find any other game that I have found so interesting. There are games that I will never forget and always come back to play. Like TF2 and Minecraft. But no other game has sparked the same love as this game. I have been hopping from game to game most recently being CS:GO and Dead by Daylight. The only games I have more then 1000 hours in is Minecraft and TF2, just cause they are timeless. I really hope this game can come back one day.

This game had gave you the best feeling of exploration than any game going your actually felt like you was exploring... They really should of not focused on the PvP thats always a niche market thats hard to crack.. If they should of built on exploration they could of done a main story quest about the world and what happened and then used the community to make islands along with side quests about the people that lived on those islands and rotated in new islands every few months basically giving them never ending story quests made by the community.

Wish I could play this game, anything steampunk with flying, floating islands and multiplayer involved will always appeal to me. I remember way after it died I tried playing the island creator on my craptop but it was too much for it to handle, now that I have an actual gaming PC, I'm gonna download it tomorrow and give it a whirl. You know, there's this game called Sky Children of the Light, you should play it if you haven't, only available on phones or the Switch though but it's worth it. Isn't like this game at all but same general theme I guess. It's an mmo, your character can fly around, you visit a a ton of unique locations, floating islands, literal islands, massive ruins, and everyone is friendly. But it's a pure social game, hard to explain, there's no combat, crafting, survival, there are threats sometimes but nothing serious or challenging, the real game is meeting, chatting, befriending and journeying with strangers and it's the most unique concept I've seen for a game. What some of those people on the reddit post were explaining is kind of how I feel about it. Again it's not at all the same game but perhaps you might find this game to fill a piece of the void left from Worlds, if any.

I miss this game. It's a damn shame when a shabby company accidently stumbles onto a great game idea and then don't know what to do with it from there. It happens from time to time. The atmosphere , the music the promise of it all......was all there. But without a floating city for the social draw, bug fixes and new content idea's they were destined to die........still sad.
