In this episode of Restore It, I fit out the new workshop! The first of four new pieces of equipment arrives and the unit is transformed from a dark and depressing place to my best workshop ever!
I finish unpacking, remove the skylights to make the workshop super bright during the day, uninstall the car lift, paint the floor, and test the new machine out.

Chicago Pneumatic/Atlas Copco/Quincy compressors ARE KING!!! My dad replaced his ultra loud compressor with the CPC series for his business (a small tooling manufacturing workshop), and it was night and day. It was such an insane upgrade over his decades old air compressor, as such it recouped his $30k investment on it within 1 year due to the fact that he could make a meaningful percentage bump in the amount of parts per week. That thing has been running 7 days a week for close to a decade now with tens of thousands of operational hours with zero issues. It’s the very core of his 10-man workshop.

Wow! 10 man! Great to hear that Dan. I knew they were good, but this really does make it hit home just how good these are... I don't think i fully appreciated how much of a game changer this comp is... I can't wait to get stuck in. Cheers!

The great thing about getting an "overkill" tool or piece of equipment is you basically never have to think about it again, which lets you focus your time and energy elsewhere. When you can knock one headache off the list while simultaneously making the rest of the tasks on the list easier to deal with... well, it's a no brainer. Overkill is the best kind of kill.

I'm totally with you Daedalus. I can't wait to work as much as I have been, whilst being super efficient with the new tools.

I always try to overspecify on tools I buy and have not had reason to regret it. Yes, it costs more initially, but saves a lot of frustration and probably saves money in the long run. With all the commitment you are putting into the workshop and equipment, I hope that you have a good secure lease and protection against the rent going up to an unaffordable level.
@RestoreIt
@RestoreIt Жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree George, even after experiencing these tools for only a short amount of time, I know the time i'm going to save is going to be humongous. The cost of rent was also a factor for downsizing, it's getting a bit crazy, but I'm good where I am for now. Cheers.

same, go all out on tools, they are the best investment you can make, thell pay for themselfs buy saving nerves, money and time 😂 also good tools deserve a proper home that keeps them save and you ALWAYS know where they are i recently put some shadowfoam in my 72" toolbox and the time i spent searching for tools went to 0 best investment ever

So proud of you and I’m super excited to see all the major improvements!! I’ve been waiting to see the upgrades to the workshop forEVER, but I honestly think these will dramatically change your ability to get the work done efficiently and in a reasonable amount of time. You know I’ve been a long time supporter so I’ll end now by simply saying “CONGRATULATIONS”!!!! ♥️♥️

Wow thank you so much, Michael. That's too kind of you. The next episodes should be with you sooner than this first one, as I had to wait a while for the three phase upgrades to be completed. I don't sell them or anything, but please let me send you a Restore It t-shirt or something as thanks. You've always been so kind and given me motivation in the comments, it's the least I can do. I was a compressor tech for the company who make that compressor till last month, you made a very good choise! Some tips: leave it on the pallet, it’s way easyer to move around. Automatic drain set to 5sec/5minutes Always clean the air filter and the two radiators once a month, and never ever skip the oil and filter change. About that: the display should ask for mainteince every 2000h, but the separetor is usually swapped evry 4000h. By expirience i reccomand changing it every 2000h no matter what, because it clogges up super fast. Never run it open, it has forced cooling. If you ever need something just dm me!

Ombra! This is an amazing comment, thank you so much for taking the time to write it. You're a legend. I was wondering what the optimal auto drain set up was, and also if I even could leave it on the pallet. I take it this is okay for the compressor? I will locate the two filters, clean them, and carefully blow out/vaccum the rads regularly. Thanks for the tip. When you say open, are you talking about the main panel on the front? I have so many questions! It's a bit like a spaceship to me right now... Would you mind sending me an email, as I can't DM on YT anymore? My address is restoreitchannel@gmail.com. Much appreciated Ombra! thank you!

@@RestoreIt Hey We don't recomend keeping it on the pallet, but it will cause no harm. Especialy since it is a tank mounted one it does'nt give a difference. Get some rubber pads underneath it to isolate it from the floor and you're good to go! Remember to keep up with service on it and the machine will serve you well. Also check the oil level quite regular. These machines can consume quite some oil without you noticing it (normally the service intervals take this into account but better be safe than sorry). When the oil level drops, the temperature will rise and your oil will deteriorate faster, and the air flow will drop... AND it will consume even more oil. I don't have the expierience white these small machines so you have to keep an eye out for it. Usualy these run at 80°C outlet temperature (check it on the controler) when the environement is 20°C. So when the temperature start rising you know what to do ;-) Overal CP machines are great machines. Great quality for the price! There are machines with better "Status" out there but I don't know if it is worth it. I do R&D work for the company so I've seen quite some different machines. And if you really want a better performing machine that is higher in quality you will need to pay a lot more. I have to say there are better ones, but in my honest opinion, it is just not worth it...

Looking forward to the next episode already. When bolting the new lift down, dont use anchor bolts. measure the baseplate hole diameter and get the largest threaded bar that will fit (m18 perhaps) and use chemical anchor resin to fit. Once cured you can fit nuts, washers and spring washers and torque up to 90 ft-lbs. This is the method i used myself and have had zero movement. Overkill but safe
@RestoreIt

There is nothing better than actually very good tools! I totally get the excitement! Like everybody, I used to cheap out on tools, and I always ended up regretting it. I am still at the "hobby level", but for the last couple years, I started to spend big money on tools that are a little overkill for my needs, but I would keep for life. I assume you had a deal with that company to give them a bit of an advertisement. It's sometimes a little annoying as a viewer, because it doesn't feel legit. But not in this case. The product is obviously amazing, and we can tell the excitement is genuine. Very happy for you. Can't wait to see it used!

Leave the compressor ON the pallet - I know it doesn't look as nice, but it makes cleaning/painting the floor easier, the wood dampens the vibration already, and you can always move it when ever you need as it doesn't HAVE TO BE bolted down to function like a lathe or car lift

@@stevebrown5145 Totally agree! I left my 80 gal, 5 hp on the pallet. It's quiet, the pallet absorbs vibration. If you want, put a bit of wood trim around the pallet and no one will ever know the difference.

@mathiasdm98 Жыл бұрын
Altough it is not recomended by the manufacturer, you can leave it on the pallet. Just put some rubber pads underneath the pallet to isolate it from the floor so vibrations doesn't get transfered to the floor (probably the wood will also dampen it already). By the way, great machine it is! CP has quite some good quality stuff! If you service it on a regular base, it will serve you well!

No! Wood rots and when it does that expensive compressor will fall to the floor and get damaged! It needs to be bolted to the floor with vibration dampners.

Please tell me what's under the sheet is a Vixen vapor blasting cabinet like M539 Restorations has!! Those things are amazing, also I have been drooling over those Chicago Pneumatic screw compressors for awhile, congrats.

You really need to invest in a hydro blasting machine instead. it is less harsh on the materials you are trying to clean and effective. it tends to not remove excessive materials on the piece you are trying to save like sandblasting.
