Dude.......I work at a grocery store and if our clearance section looked like that someone would be getting fired, no joke. It is hard to catch all the expired food, but we actively work on our clearance items to make sure expired or compromised food items are dealt with. That is a serious health risk.

I am so glad that stores have gotten into the habit of placing damaged/almost expired food on clearance instead of tossing it. So much food gets thrown away because it's two days from the "best by" date. BTW, most food is still good for a few days, after the "expiration" date..sometimes even a few weeks, depending on the food item..just give it a good look-over before purchasing.

For a while, our local supermarket would reduce all white mould cheeses (Brie, Camembert) to $1 as the expiry date approached. The ridiculous thing was that they weren’t even ripe yet! The cheese maker estimates when they think it will be ripe, and the supermarket discounted them whether they were ripe or not….so for a long while, we enjoyed cheeses that usually cost between 8 and 10$, for $1….just ate as they became mature (ie the centre became soft)

dude, the cupcake was fine. cupcakes don't need to be refrigerated, thats just a thing they do to keep the frosting nice and not melted. i've made huge batches of cupcakes before and stored them in a bag at room tempurature and they last for weeks XD
