I PAINTED this TIGER OAK dresser?? 😩 | FURNITURE FLIP | DIY Dresser Makeovers

Hey furniture friends! Today I'll be making over my client's vintage tiger oak dresser in which I'll be PAINTING it white 😱. Some people will hate it, and some will love it, let me know which camp you're in!

I think it looks FABULOUS!!! The wood was great in its “hey day” but the white is a beautiful update. I think it’s a piece that you both breathed new life into. And your client can love it all over again. Job well done👍🏻 ❤

It’s beautiful! It’s not ruined at all. If it were my dresser, I might have preserved the drawer fronts as wood, (maybe, maybe not) but it’s not mine and she probably has a particular place she wants the piece and this white is what will look good in the decor scheme. Thanks for the tip about the thinned wood filler to make the top smoother.

You did a great job and you have to do what the client wants. If that weren’t the case I think I would have done a dark color on the body to highlight the grain on the drawers. To each his own though and it’s always fun to see your work. Meticulous.

Thanks Kay! Oh my gosh the shellac was so thick that if anyone ever wanted to restore it, the wood is still super protected underneath everything. I stand with my client: if it’s yours, do whatever you want with it :) thanks for commenting Kay! ❤️

Please tell me which attachments fit your sander to your shop vac :))) Love watching your flips

Thank you! Well when I had a shop vac, I just put the vacuum hose inside the dust collection hole of my sander and secured it with duct tape lol. It’s not fancy but it works. Now I have a dust extractor from surfprep (in the video) and I used the adapter provided with the extractor as well as a dewalt universal adaptor to connect them together

Loved 😢the Tiger Wood but completely understand why she wanted the white. I’d rather see a piece be passed down and loved than sitting on the curb. I’m a New Subscriber and I love your work! Do you use the same primer on laminate? Or something else?

Thank you so much! Me too I can never fault someone for liking what they like. As for painting laminate, I use Kilz for it as well! It’s oil based so it’ll seal up any exposed particle board under the laminate. If you use water based on those spots, it’ll bubble up and show through your paint. My fav is kilz spray in the red can

Yep, she ruined it. Natural stain would have neen so much better If she wanted white, she could have gotten a white Ikea dresser. Sorry you were forced in to this

On this particular piece, yes. But I am happy that I got to get it to how she wants it! The shellac coating on it is still really thick, so if she ever wants it restored she can still have it done 😄 thanks for watching
