They re spotting you because you re using the wrong button, you're crouching not sneaking. These are two different things in this game and somehow they can here you crouching but not sneaking

This game is goated because sometimes the guards just think your vibe is off and that's hella realistic

I think it still holds up. Nowdays feels like a very arcadey exprience but love it, although I prefer Contracts and BM. Completing a mission Silent Assassin/Suit Only in this game is a huge satisfaction.

I don't care how old and "dated" it is. This game was such a unique experience back in the day, and few rival it for atmosphere. If you have the patience to put up with its harder mechanics and crazy slow stealth-mode, there is a wonderful and quirky game to enjoy.

Okay but in all seriousness this game had my favorite ending out of all Hitman games

There's a kinda weird rule in the scoring system of H2SA and Contracts where gunshots don't count against your score so long as no non-target NPCs are harmed. Otherwise they penalize you with 1 "aggression" point each. And so long as you finish the mission with 2 or fewer aggression points, you'll score Silent Assassin. So in most missions it is actually possible to kill only target NPCs with an _unlimited_ number of bullets, even including missing them and shooting their dead body, and still score Silent Assassin. A good example of this is the Seafood Massacre mission in Contracts, where it is actually a very viable strategy to sneak into the restaurant and just hose both of the targets with rapid silenced shots before they can react, provided you remain undetected no other NPCs in the level are harmed. It doesn't matter how many shots you fire, or if you miss. On the other hand, killing a non-target enemy also penalizes you with 1 aggression point. So in most missions it is possible to kill a single non-target enemy with a gunshot to the head, and so long as you kill the main target(s) by some other means (e.g. fiberwire) you can still achieve Silent Assassin rank. This causes a bit of a problem in the H2SA St. Petersburg Stakeout mission however. The game forces you to kill the target with an unsilenced rifle. So an alert is guaranteed. That's 1 point. But now if you harm any non-target enemies, you get 1 point for that but also the 1 point gets added for the sniper shot too. So basically, unlike most other missions, the only way to complete St. Petersburg Stakeout with Silent Assassin rank is to shoot the target and not harm any other NPC in the level. Otherwise you'll always score at least 3 points. This means you're forced to either KO a patrolling guard with anaesthetic (which is hard lol) or sneak through and steal the disguise hidden next to one of the trucks up on the street.

I played through all the old Hitman games couple years ago, and yeah, the first two hadn't aged well. Some of the missions were still fun if everything when smoothly, but some levels you just had to shoot your way through. And I never even bothered trying for Silent Assasin. At least I managed to finish both games. I tried playing Hitman 2 back in PS2 days and back then the game was just too difficult for me, so I guess I'm slightly smarter now than I was 20 years ago.

I picked up this and Blood Money for my PS2 a few days ago, and its been a lot of fun. Stealth is extremely difficult, but there's only a single level so far that requires no alarms to be raised (it's pretty easy though) and I believe I'm almost done with the game. I try to stealth when I can but loud is a blast. Can't wait to move on to Blood Money after this as that seems to be everyone's favorite. Also, the soundtrack is amazing.

I played this game this year too! In its entirety which I wasn’t good enough to do as a kid. Mission at 3:45 is the only mission I couldn’t get a Silent Assassin rating. Crazy hard.

I notice the one thing consistant with the suspicion system in SA is that proximity and walking (compared to running) plays a huge part on whether or not guards/enemies see through your disguise.

Why are the bullets so slow in this game? I'm pretty sure starting with Contracts they just made the bullets Hitscans.

While i appreciate Hitman 1 and 2 for what they were trying to do the broken ai is beyond infuriating to deal with. They nailed it down with Blood Money and perfected it with Hitman : World of Assassination. As for Absolution? Well lets not talk about that one 😂

These first 2 games were just the testing grounds for how the rest of the series became. This game experiments a lot with levels and the ones that worked well enough wel improved upon while missions like hidden valley were scrapped for good. Also the ai is wizardry there is no consistency in the ai and the best way to play this and get SA rating is my speedrunning

Yeah, japanese missions are worst in the series. Even worse than Colombia ones from C47. But the rest are alright if you don't run if front of npcs. Also enemies are less suspicious if you don't carry rifle in your left hand and carry it like normal instead, was pretty surprised when i found that out. Nice vid anyways.

One thing I learned from speedrun that if you hold run button and tap w instead of holding it you'll move faster while being less suspicious.

Silent Assassin was pretty flawed now that i look back at it lol. Sneak are slow af, enemy AI ramdomly blow your cover with zero reason, you are forced to slow walk the entire map just to avoid being shot at by almost every NPC. Some levels even forced you to stay undetected in a map full of guards walking around every corner or you will be dead in seconds *cough* Hidden Valley *cough* .Unpopular opinion, but i actually find Codename 47 more enjoyable than Silent Assassin after i get used to the controls and know what im doing in each mission, only con is no saves. Thank god they added a save feature in SA, otherwise that game would be a nightmare too lol, especially on big levels like Shogun Showdown and Terminal Hospitality. Contracts is the most refined in terms of gameplay mechanic in the first 3 games. Blood Money was and still is a perfect Hitman game, of course.
