Hey guys! This is the remedy Friday upload in celebration of me having a youtube identity crisis and absolutely procrastinating on the Harvard Admissions lawsuit and rating system video. Don't worry though, we are now back better than ever because this video was my first attempt at being more myself on KZfaq. And it was SO MUCH FUN! I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process--from being lost to finding my groove. I hope you enjoy as well! PS, this is my first time being so vulnerable on KZfaq, so please be kind 💕

I honestly think you’re one of the best college youtubers I’ve come across. Your advice is actually so helpful, and also so unique and specific in comparison to what other college youtubers talk about. I also really like your personality-I think you’re super down to earth and driven in your own special way, and I also feel like you’re one of the teenagers I can relate to. I don’t think you need to replicate Arpi Park or anyone else to succeed with your channel-just be yourself(as cliche as that sounds, it’s true!)and I’m sure over time you’ll attract a much larger audience that resonates with your personality. I personally find your videos super entertaining and fun to watch, also with great advice-I always look forward to your uploads.❤️

This might sound weird, but I actually like the fact that your channel is still kind of small. Your videos are extremely compact, helpful and pretty much identical to what my old college counselor would say (passion projects are key!) You upload quite frequently, not that it's a bad thing but again it could lead to burnout. Don't be afraid to make videos non-Stanford related! Things like mental health and what made you interested in studying X field are also very much so college content. People are going to watch your videos because it's entertaining and/or informative (or because they'll see you as the Stanford girl), but subscribers will stick around because of your personality :)

I think the main thing is to give your unique perspective. People watching your videos are probably watching many other similar videos. They are putting it all together to make decisions for themselves. So to the degree that your advice or ideas are uniquely you, that's how they are going to the most helpful. For instance, you probably should make a part 2 of your video about applying to college as a junior. But really tell the details and talk about your feelings, etc. What really prompted it and your hopes and fears around it and your disappointment. That's a really interesting story and you haven't scratched the surface.

Excellent, excellent, excellent video effort Iris! (from my point of view at least. In case it helps, I get the impression that you've got the potential, credibility and authenticity to shine at this whole college KZfaq advice related work. This whole KZfaq stuff seems incredibility hard but I get the impression that you could master it Iris. One thing which could potentially help is the idea of doing potential collab videos with other KZfaqrs and/or interviews with other people in general? Katherine from the Kath Path has been a personal favourite of mine and I get the impression that it could be worth speaking to her? She's in her junior year and I get the impression that she could act as an excellent mentor to you? Something which might be worth trying is getting in touch with her and go from there? E.g. you could work as part of her Kath Path college essays review work, get more experience in the field while helping her build on her work and then by the time she graduates you could hopefully try to hit the ground running so to speak? And/or try to get to learn from her and see what did and/or didn't work for her and hopefully that way be able to learn from her experiences? (or equivalent?). Sorry for the longer and clumsier then intended comment her Iris. Really well done with everything so far! Raza =)

hey, I 100% completely feel what you're saying and I understand your struggles because I'm going through the same thing right now. it's super frustrating or I guess existential-crisis-like to think about what makes you unique and how you stand out and then feeling like overwhelmed. so of course it's going to be hard to figure out your own style but think about what you want to do, not what we want to see, and youll find viewers that love your own unique content. also lol I love arpi park haha but I love your channel too! try not to stress out too much about this❤️❤️
@irisfu6929

"existential-crisis-like" is the perfect way to describe it. Yeah, really keeping in mind that we can't imitate anybody and will only pale in comparison to the original. Carving our own unique path/voice is difficult, but I like your point of focusing on what we want to do, not what we want to see. Thanks for this message and we got this 💪

Definitely try to reduce your output. Give yourself time to find a narrative you really really like, and then finally begin uploading. I def had this frustration and after you give your videos more time to sit in your head, you'll realize what you want to say and how you want to say it.

Thanks for this message Shaurya. It's a literal identity crisis haha. It's also frustrating to see results like more demand on videos about college apps (shoutout to my polls... my audience votes more on college apps vids and the vlog ideas have way less votes :( You can even see how this video performs worse compared to others. Also conflicted about seeing more growth when I upload every day, when, like you said, it might serve this channel better in the long run if I take more time to figure out a narrative I really like.

@@irisfu6929 Think of it like this - your College Decisions Reaction Video blew up because it was really well made, emotional, and topical. Not all videos need to be like that, yes, but with that level of effort, you'd be choosing quality instead of quantity ( I think you're burning out because you're trying to churn both out at a very very fast rate ) Try doing a little testing and see how a birthday vlog performs, or how a weekly video performs. People might not want to watch it, as shown in the polls, but I'm sure they'll stick around because of you and your personality :)

yess i just watched that video with Joma Tech! I totally vibe with Arpi's sentiment on burn out from trying to help too many people. That's why I had to close my instagram DMs and just stop responding to all these people wanting help with college apps. I understand that it's a super high need area though, so trying to be smarter about my time and how to make maximum impact in addressing that area of need

College counseling is definitely very time-intensive and difficult. :( I had a close friend who wasn't well-informed about applying to college (regular decision) so I pulled several all-nighters to coach them so I understand how tiring it can be to an extent. "A bird can fly but a fly can't bird" - The Tao of Pooh. I'm not sure you need to be different. You have a unique perspective and story. The only thing I would recommend is talk to the camera like you're telling a friend a story. How was your semester abroad? How did you get into that? What do you think interns need to do to make a good impression? What do you struggle with studying? Tell us more about the flute stuff, the Julliard connection? Why were you auditioning? You navigate New York pretty well, are their tips a tricks for a young girl navigating NY, what is the funnest stuff, what's the stuff everyone needs to know? How do you generate creativity, for your book, for your music, etc, etc, etc. You seem like you have so much to offer, be a friend and just chat (don't present) on something on your mind. Things you think are obvious, easy, etc may not be for most people. You have actual interesting stuff that is useful to help us out with. Don't worry about being entertaining (like youtuber x), just be genuine.

Thanks so much for this comment. I love your sentiment of talking to the camera as I do as friend, as that'd actually be so much LESS work than presenting information. Will definitely incorporate more of these types of vidoes into the future. Thanks again xx

@@irisfu6929 Good luck, I struggle with getting that "personality" into my speech, I'm pretty dry. My formal speech looks like this kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZaXatFpkpq0qKc.html this was for my Freshman year Legacy 2000 class (STEM college prep). I think my first video when I was 12 had much more personality in it (lead video on the channel). When I try to be educational instead of just talking it comes off stiff, at least for me. Well can't wait to see how Stanford goes. I'm a Freshman in HS, looking to get into Genetic Engineering at Johns Hopkins. I'm currently 4.0UW, 4.16W, #1 in the class so far. I play soccer, on one of the top 10 teams in Colorado, but won't be a scholarship either. So far a few extra cirriculars like my team winning the World Affairs Challenge 2 years in a row, by building educational computer labs in Africa and repairing water pumps in Malawi the previous year. Give molecular biology will be key I hope to get an internship at a lab at the research centers here. Who knows. I start AP Calc next year and will be in a total of 4,6,6 AP classes the next 3 years. My SAT is a 1520 after 8th grade and I'm taking Math II when they restart taking them. I'm at 800 on the practice tests. Anything else (aside from a passion project) that I should be doing?

I think maybe a video essay would be nice... just a pure sense of creative yet irrelevant crap connecting it back to something significant to you. Not necessarily about college applications, but maybe what you think about certain issues. For instance, you mentioned Arpi Park he had a video essay with honey nut cheerios. But I mean if it helps you are one student out of what millions all over the world. You can't possibly take all that pressure, and I can honestly say sharing experiences with others is probably the best way to inspire and help people. I really do appreciate the videos, to be quite honest I enjoy watching more of your videos where you talk about writing your book and creating your video pal program more than the Harvard rating system. I like listening to your story, and your passions as a student, not necessarily being a textbook re-enforcing information. Like you said showing more of that creative side/ personality, its what makes your videos so interesting to watch. And you will find your unique voice... now I just sound like a TED X motivational speaker.

I don’t think you should be recognized or known for your acceptance into Stanford. Stanford, essentially, is just a name. In society, most people won’t Identify your personality and value through the particular college you attended. I think you should be known for who you are as a person, not what you have done, and definitely not the college you went to. However, this is completely opinion based, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I hope that helps.
