I ran a marathon in Halifax, Nova Scotia without training. What happens when you don't train for for a marathon? That's just what I'm looking to find out! I signed up for the Blue Nose Marathon, Atlantic Canada's largest marathon only two days before the race, never having raced more than a 5k. Watch now to see how it went!

Not sure what the "running room people" would be but as someone who has run 5 marathons, I'm impressed that not only did Oliver complete it - but did it w/o hitting the wall. I struggle late into the race even though I've put in tons of training. Either way, I think Oliver hit the nail on the head though. I don't really enjoy marathons but I do them because of what he said - they are a physical and a mental challenge. I clearly have not mastered it yet, so I keep pushing on.

I think they were worried. He’s obviously young and fit, he did great! But the world we live in where people are sometimes doing extremely dumb things to get views your conscious should naturally nag you to say something, people can get hurt doing something like this without training, and it’s important to respect the challenge you’re taking on. They gave him good advice but with a helping of concern. Good for him he knocked it out of the park!

Congrats! Always... I just wanted to jump on here: Even if you are fit, this is usually NOT how you should approach a marathon. The bones, ligaments and muscles need time to adjust to that specific type of strain and the heart does as well. There have been several recorded deaths of people who ran marathons without sufficient training (heart attacks etc.) and so many people who have had injuries that took several months to rehab because they pushed their body to a limit it was not used to.

This is insane! I used to do a lot of half-marathons, typically right under 2 hours (my best time was about 1hr 55min). I never reached my goal of running a full marathon, but I estimated that at best, I *might* be have been able to do around 4hr 20min - 30min. When I was watching this, I was sure that you would hit the wall and collapse half-way through. I was impressed that you finished but stunned when I saw the time. Incredible job!

1 year of consistent training and you should be able to shave more than an hour... easily. The secret is to increase your "easy" pace (and thus your maximum aerobic pace) by consistently doing easy and steady long runs. However, if you wanna get below 3h30 without dying, then you'll need to add a serious dose of harder workouts (weights, sprints/strides, hill repeats, long intervals,...) so that your body gets better at recycling lactic acid and maintaining good, efficient running form, even when you're tired. You have potential 👍

That's crazy! I've had the same idea a few years back but trained for 3 months beforehand (didn't run more than 5k before). It's funny to see that you got the EXACT same time as me (4:23). I was very proud and it showed me that you can learn anything if you invest time and dedication. Made me very happy, until I heard that one of my Uni Professors (~40 years older than me) ran the same day an hour quicker. A Marathon is literally a marathon. You can train for it our whole life and somehow it will pay out. Great video!

Caution to all, from an experienced 60+ marathon veteran here - do NOT think you can just go from no exercise period, to running in a marathon. Look up the story of the late Jade Goody, for warnings on that one. This looked a bit click baity to me. Looking at this guy's performance and build, he blatantly keeps himself in at least decent physical shape - even if he's not a regular long term runner. That's very different from doing a marathon with 'no training'. He's said also he ran up to 15k - so he knows what its like to run for long periods, without significantly stopping. That IS training of a sort. Good he made it, respect to him. But he's not a couch potato is blatant, so don't try and make out he's one... 🙄

I consider myself somewhat fit (regular cycling, gym and any other racquet sport lol) but most definitely not a runner, but as part of my New Year’s resolutions I decided I’d try something new and that I’d been avoiding for so long for fear of injuries or looking like a complete noob. The longest you’ve ran was 15km but were you ever a runner before this marathon? I’m currently training for a half marathon, but my pace is so slow (8-9:00 min/km) because I struggle gaining weight in muscle mass… I can go as fast as 6-7:00 min/km but never sustain it because they feel like sprinting to me. Anyway, I hope you keep posting more videos about running! Love what you said at the end of the video. Hoping that marathon turned you into a runner for life!

Same, training for my first half but I'm hoping to finish in the 3 hour cut-off time. Most half marathons where I live are even with a 2:30 cut-off time which means that's too fast for me even with consistent training.. @@reunionrocker3482 Not too sure about that. At big marathon events there's more untrained people at the starting line than you'd think.. They don't put it on KZfaq but they definitely brag about it to friends, family and coworkers. Is it good for your body? Absolutely not. But if you have a good base endurance (can be from whatever other sports you've ever done) and you dose it very well by not starting way too fast the hardest part is the mental part.

Great job man! It’s my time tomorrow, my first marathon ever, I have ran 20 km before in a single run but I will have to make it tomorrow. Prepared for 2 months/ 3 months almost. I have to show up and do my best and complete this obstacle.

@@Memorare87 Barely managed to finish that. In 6 hours or something. It came to a point where I couldn’t run because my kidneys hurt so I just limped and walked for like 5 km. I don’t know why I hit the wall so hard. The only reason I can think of, ironically, I was prepared for a half marathon. They put me in a marathon and I couldn’t change my category. Anyway, I did it. I wanted to give up many times at the end but I fought on. Needless to say my leg muscles hurt like hell now.

Congrats on finishing the marathon!! Completing that race is something to be seriously proud of. Most importantly, you fought through it.

@@OliverPriemer Thank you so much brother! Honestly, I was watching videos 2 days before the marathon and I stumbled upon yours. Was glad I did because when I found it hard to move forward, I thought that I am not alone. Many others have felt like me in the same scenario. So that made me go through.

Yo that’s insane, congrats on your full marathon! I had zero experience training for a half marathon and only started training 7 weeks before the half marathon. I finished with a 2:08 time and hope I can be faster. It’s been one month and my latest half marathon time was 1:48 😅

Im currently training for a marathon and I clicked this video and when I saw it I was so surprised it was from moncton my home province. I used to drive by that running club store all the time and recognized it right away it was like 5 minutes from my grandmothers house. I think its cool that you ran the marathon without training, but from what I saw from your other videos is that you played soccer and were already in pretty good shape so for you I think its ok, but a guy who doesnt play other sports or who is normally active wouldnt make it without causing health problems. Anyway Im excited to run my first marathon this Sept in Montreal! I just registered today and I started an 18 week Nike Marathon training plan thats on an app with an audio coach to guide you through the runs a week ago. Im already in quiet good shape, I get mostly 10'000 steps per day and love long distance walks so I just need to get back into running. Im probably going to do a run walk run method. I hope I make it to the end as my last two sporty goals were to go sky diving and run a marathon. I even went to the library and borrowed 35 books about running, marathons, marathon training and runners biographies. My goal is to finish reading them all before I run the marathon and will be an expert on the topic by the end of it. Im not very good at making youtube videos anymore but maybe I will write and article or a book about my own experience training for the marathon after it.

Lol so cool to see this. I did this in my mid 20s after my barber convinced me. I ran 5ks and 12ks in the past but a marathon as always on my bucket list. After not running for 3-4 years, my barber and I signed up for a marathon that was 1 week out. I finished in 5.5 hours. Ran for 13 miles straight and cramped up bad at the 15 mile mark. At the 18 mile mark, I just sat down and couldn't move my feet; they hurt so bad. A kind lady gave me an Aleve pill as she saw me in excruciating pain. I waited 5 min and zoomed off the ground like a horse out the gate. End result -- I was using crutches for the next 3-4 days. I could barely walk.
I ran an ULTRA marathon
