considering the 1.) physical ability necessary to do this 2.) clout/skill to get all the different visas arranged 3.) cash required to fund the journey incl team members 4) some amount of good fortune (for uncontrollable stuff to go right when it must), who knows when this'll be done again let alone broken. So impressed.

the problem with the gendarme here is an issue of chain of command, they have authority on the roads by default, but they can be overruled by some higher up commands without the gendarme being aware of it so it leads to confusion, but most will attempt to contact a higher authority to confirm the orders, some would just not care and do they job and leave.

After many failed attempts to start running over the years, this project has inspired me to actually start. I'm the same age as Russ, he can run 60k+ every day for a full year, so I have no excuses to not run 5k once or twice/week. I'm obese, but commitment to running is also an incentive for me to lose the extra fat I'm carrying. Every kilo lost means running gets easier, and I can run farther/faster than last time. I ran my first parkrun this morning in 35 mins, I'm overjoyed to be honest. This is one of the all-time great feats of physical endurance. Russ, you're insane, this achievement is insane. Your team is nearly as insane as you, and you all have my respect and admiration!

The problem with the gendarmerie is in ALGERIA there is 4 military regions and since you entered from MAURITANIA the 3rd region of the west didn't hand over the mission of your escort to the 4th region that's why you didn't have escort then when you reached the 2nd region of the east no one was aware from where you come not from the east border neither from the 4th region or the 1st region of the north, then they have to organize their own escort, this is the first time a groupe of foreigners that entered from the new border crossing with MAURITANIA wich opened in feburary 2024

The big question is WHY SHOULD THEY CARE? It shouldn't be illegal for tourists to travel across the country without being babysat by the Gendarmerie. Tourists are not babies. We don't need babysitters. Also, you're wrong. A couple of Swiss tourists entered at the new border crossing at Tindouf about a week before Russ. And also, there were other tourists who entered at the OLD border crossing at Tindouf earlier. The one that opened in 2018.

Fantastic Russ!!!!! Really guys running the Sahara is an Everest cause you never know when you're done until... you're done. I love running long distance under the sun and Russ' achievement is insane. And the fact this project raised funds is such a great deal. The most surprising is the KZfaq algorithm or anything or anyone trying to minimize such a mountain event... 😑 Anyway crossing Algeria was such a fantastic journey. After running @Timimoun I planned to run the Treg Ultra Trail. 222 insane kms around the fantastic city of Djanet in the very south of Algeria in next October. Hope to meet you there Russ and all of you mates. cheers and enjoy life as it comes

Genuinely the most inspiring physical feat performed by any human that has ever lived, wouldn't have been possible without the team and all the kind people along the way, i joined the journey on youtube about 2 months in and was immediately hooked and watched the backlog of videos since you started and eagerly followed along every week since. Russ Cook, a Legendary human, and truly the hardest of all geezers! incredible mate!

I've seen it from day one and I can't grasp this was actually done. Not only did he physically endure the non stop volume of running for over 300 days, but he mentally endured the whole of it. And that's with the desert sandstorms coupled to the highest daily distance left for last. I feel like the mental aspect and the physical aspect need to be graded differently, and this is all so alien to me I can't begin to make a case for which is more outstanding.

It has been an absolute pleasure to watch and I’ll be sure to have a strawberry daiquiri tomorrow to celebrate! I’m amazed at how there isn’t more of a following to this as it has been one of the best things I have ever watched on KZfaq! Massive congrats to the whole team it’s been a fantastic watch!

This is by far the greatest video series ever put on KZfaq. Its absolutely mind boggling to me why there aren't 10m people watching every episode - but I think they'll trickle in one day as Russ becomes a bit of a celeb. Hopefully the core team can stay together for another massive sdventure sometime... South America perhaps? Cheeky Chile to Alaska 👀

Big up to the guys with all you went through. I'm from Algeria, and I really feel disgusted with the gendarmerie treatment and lack of understanding, It happens to regular people even, the issue is that some of those guys just want to act tough, but luckily, it's just a small minority. Best of luck for the last push, God speed 🏃🏻💪🏽

You are a true Leg End Russ, survived Africa, pushed through the toughest of challenges, by gosh there has been some tough ones, as someone who is older by a good 11-12 years, you make me look at myself, to push forward, to never give up and now you are so so close to the end point. Breathe it in, you break records tomorrow in Tunisia and its been amazing to watch, watching your series. To your team, who has shown, the wonderous cultures of Africa and the generosity of the people there. What a rollercoaster, heres to you, the Hardest Geezer!

I truly believe there are less than 0.1% of all humans that have ever existed that could do something like this. I told my mate about Russ and he wasn't stunned or in disbelief, he thought anyone could do it, so i challenged him to run 5k a day with me for a month, he made it 9 days before his knee packed in and he had to stop, i just looked at him and said, now imagine doing that 5k FIFTEEN times, back to back, EVERYDAY for almost a year.
