Similar situation happened to one of my uncles with a neighbors child, he went to back out of his driveway not realizing a kid had crawled under his truck to retrieve a soccer ball. Sadly in his situation the child did not survive. Glad everything turned out ok for your family, god bless.

Wow Kate definitely had someone watching over her. I'm glad Kate made it out of those alive and not all scarred up. I'm 17 and just recovered from a chainsaw accident. My accident was a wake up call and definitely made me realize that sometimes slowing down in life is the best way to go cuz it only takes a second for your life or someone else's to change forever. Thx for the story. Your a trooper kate!!

Dont feel bad Keith, the same thing happened to me with my sister. I was driving and heard the door close, but it wasn’t her door. She was about half way in the car and I started driving. Thankfully she wasn’t ran over and she just fell out of the car on the ground. What a wake up call. Crazy how fragile life is. Kate is a trooper!

Running over a kid is probably my worst fear. I borrowed my roommates Prius for a week once and I had several very close calls of almost running over kids who were riding their bikes and playing by the roads in my neighborhood. It took me little bit to realize why none of the kids seemed to be paying attention to traffic... they couldn't hear the Prius coming. I vowed never to drive an electric car after that.

I have a similar story. My dad also ran me over by accident. My dad felt so horrible as we sat in the ER for about 7 hours. However after the hospital visit, my dad turned to me and said "Let's go get a slurpee from 711 to make things better" good times

A 12 year old girl, the same age as my daughter was hit and killed by a car in our neighborhood. That experience reinforced my decision to continue with our dream, backpacking the middle east together. My biggest challenges were critiques saying I was putting our lives in danger. Accidents can happen at home, not just on the road. Our trip to Egypt/Israel/Jordan was 12 years ago, and we've since traveled numerous other countries together. THANKFUL we didn't allow fear to dash our dreams. Rather than allowing this accident to cancel your trip (playing it safe), you turned this into a learning experience, reflecting and living life more FULLY.

Ooooh, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to watch that video seeing little Kate's face and Keith talking about putting a van in drive. Being a father of three daughters, one with a TBI from a vehicle, my stomach completely flipped in the first 18 seconds of the video. Glad everything worked out and everyone healed and walked away with just a well learned lesson.

How scary, I was hit by a car at age 6. The driver ran a red light and hit me at 45+ miles per hour. The only reason I am here today is because I flew across the road on impact, I had squatted down and turned my butt to the car when I seen it coming. To this day 37 years later I am leery of crossing the street in a crosswalk. So thankful she is okay! Kate is one tough cookie.

That’s a great message Keith. And that’s a lesson not usually learned till a little later in life (to slow down, be more patient, and be less selfish). It’s weird and quite cruel when you think about it. If you have children at a younger age (mid to late 20’s) you have the energy but lack the wisdom. But if you wait and have kids later,(mid to late 30’s) you have more wisdom, but lack the energy. It is imperative to learn and listen to the more experienced people in your life.

What a scary event! I'm so glad to hear Kate recovered without issue. A similar incident happened to me when I was about 6. I was in the front seat of our VW Bus (Van/Vanagon) with my 3 brothers. Mom was driving. When we turned left into our driveway, I leaned on the door handle (yes, you push it to open) and the door swung open suddenly. I fell out (no seat belt) and onto the ground, landing with my legs across the driveway in the path of the rear wheel. I screamed for mom to stop, which she did...however, the vehicle stopped directly on top of my right ankle. Miraculously, there were no broken bones and I recovered 100%.

Thank you for very humbly sharing your story. I know more than one family who has lost a child in the same way. I have been a cruise ship nurse and one time we had to offload a guest while in the Panama Canal. Myself and my doc went from the ship onto a cargo platform to shore and in the ambulance with the patient to the hospital. While the ride in the ambulance was very scary and the adventure back to the ship was quite sketchy, the care the patient got at the hospital was great.

I am so sorry to hear this happened but glad your daughter is ok. I was run over by my dad back in 2019. I ended up breaking both collarbones, my pelvis and tailbone, my left ankle on both sides and refracturing my tibia. I also received stickers, glue and about 8 staples on the back of my head. I was confined to a wheelchair for 3 months due to the tailbone fracture. It is definitely a scary feeling seeing the car go over you. I was run over on my back and my foot and had a tire mark across both. I know what your daughter must be feeling. It is definitely a scary thing and I hope that she is ok physically and mentally after this. My love is with y’all. 💗

Oh noooo ! But so glad she’s going to be okay. As a former commercial vehicle driver you can never be too careful moving any vehicle, especially when kids are around, and the many blind spots. One day I did the circle check on a bus and when I went inside the office for a few seconds to turn in the paper work, a cleaning crew member placed a bucked of water in front of the bus and having done the circle check and thinking I was clear to go I ended up dragging that stupid bucket under the bus for about 40 feet. I thought something was terribly wrong with the front end of the bus mechanically speaking. So even if you think one circle check is enough think again… always double and triple check. Safety awareness at all times.

That must have been such a traumatic experience for you and your family! I would have been terrified. But you obviously handled it wonderfully! Thank you so much for sharing this. That also took a lot of courage. Much love to you and your family❤️

Something similar happened to one of my old friends’ sister. Her dad was in his truck and told his daughter (who was playing in the driveway) to move so he could park, and she did. But the father started to back up and the daughter went back out into the driveway and she was ran over. Blood was all over the driveway and sadly she didn’t survive. I’m glad your daughter is okay ❤️

It’s great to hear you own it Keith, it’s also good to hear the honesty! It is a reality check for sure, master the little things, and the bigger ones will take care of themselves. Well, let’s hope so....!? Thanks for sharing. 😎🐬🏖🌴☀️🇦🇺

Awwe wow what a terrible accident to have happen unfortunately that's a picture in your mind that's lodged forever , of course you both love them ( your children) and would never do anything to intentionally hurt them I think you are the greatest family and wonderful parents ..I for sure enjoy watching your videos .

My mother ran over my brother many years ago. It was caused by miscommunication, we were delivering newspapers (yes, the old print stuff that used to be on your doorstep everyday) in a Chevy Vega hatchback and we had missed a customer, I yelled "missed one!" and mom and my brother both yelled "I got it!" As mom started to back up the car, my brother jumped out the back. He was folded under the car with the transmission pan on his butt. We were all screaming. Several people were out in their yards and 2 dudes lifted the drivers side of the car, we were able to pull him out. Surprisingly, there was no damage. He was about 9 or 10 at the time.

Kate the Kat !!! I remember that one!!! Until then never thought about the danger of being out there traveling on the water. After that I was always thinking of the dangers for the kids. Really it took awhile for that to go away!!! The reason is Fin & Jack jumping off and flipping off everything they saw!!! Those two were like and still like hey let’s try and hurt ourselves today! Lol!!!
