it has not to be fixed, Google should just do their work and suspend reported violators. That is the real problem for me. I have reported dozens and dozens. It seems they just dont care :-(

I guess my question is how can you improve the rating to the max without changing the business listing name or business name. My question is, isn't NAP essential to keep intact, mainly when a business creates multiple citations to help them on a local visibility level? Wouldn't changing the GMB listing "business name" (e.g., web design Wimbledon) affect NAP across the board? Curious what you think?

Good question. The business name you are using for your GMB profile should be the legitimate name of the business, so It shouldn't be an issue.

The GMB Algo is continuing to evolve and soon we will see big changes with businesses stuffing keywords into their business title. In our opinion, the ranking weight will move towards domain authority rather than mere keyword and CTR manipulation!

GREAT Video.... While I agree that it is only a matter of time before Google tanks businesses using keyword stuffing in their listings, Luc brings up an interesting (and to me, actionable) point to ponder for a 'local' business. Consider adding the keyword and city within the business name. Maybe generic, but I can see it definitely working for the business serving the area. We all know this is used in practice today by by others.

@@gavinp8609 very useful in the short term, but in my opinion Luc was pointing this as a GMB weakness and manipulative aspect. You can surely add it at your own risks, listings can be suspended unless your registered company name includes both keyword and location. This can be an issue only if Google is requesting additional documents to validate the listing. Cheers

I've been testing similar methods including the addition of a keyword specific subdomain GMB listing at the same postal address location as the TLD domain GMB listing. Google merged the two GMB listings and I simply changed the main GMB title to suit the subdomain exact match keywords. This seems to be in line with GMB Terms of use.

He has an auto repair shop named after him and feels that his only chance at success is to have a GMB listing for every make of care he works as well as for a number of the key services he provides. He currently has somewhere south of 10 GMB listings but wants to do more. Each currently existing entry uses his shop's number and street address, but then with a different suite number. I have tried to tell him that such an approach could get all of his listings penalized, and I am afraid they have been. What I'm reading you explaining sounds similar but not exactly the same. Do you have any clarification or comment at this stage of the game after you posted your comment here roughly a year ago?

Great video as always. In your experience how long do Google take to respond to redress forms for this issue since Google won't inform you themselves if a change has been made? Unfortunately I've had to resort to using the form as 50+ local competitors are using location in their title and changing it back after I suggest an edit on maps

I know, unfortunately it's very much a cat and mouse type of exercise. The response time varies but on average expect 10 days before a change is made

Hi Shawn. thanks for watching. 1) Whatever you do to your Google Business Profile, make sure it abides by the Google's guidelines 2)I am not sure what you mean by 5k backlink not working properly. Are you buying them? if so I would suggest you be careful with doing that. 5k sounds very suspicious to me and is likely to be very suspicious to google too.

The snitching idea could backfire if there's an exact match keyword subdomain sat on the respective GMB listing.....report it, however some people are being really greasy and leaving negative reviews to attack people who might legitimately be using an exact match GMB keyword title....these people are extremely greasy

Hi Luc, I remain appreciative for your helpful videos. I recently used Google's structured data Schema mark up tool. Do you know if a local business will receive additional benefit creating this for multiple pages of a site? If you've published a video on this topic, I may need your help to find it, and I'd love to watch it. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Back to my first question. On my site, I used the Google mark up tool for the home page. I'm still living in a cave, and use a service other than wordpress, so I don't have the luxury of plug-in tool access. I added the code snip-it as an HTML add on. I had trouble adding the schedule (Days and hours of business) to the Schema, as I was receiving multiple errors. I ended up leaving it out. Great tip and thanks for your dedication towards us. I have a question. i used a phone number for GOOGLE MY BUSINESS but unfortunately the phone number got missing. (The Phone got stolen). There isn't a "proper time" it depends on many factors such as your competition, how much work you put into it, how old your listing is and so on... The most affordable keywords will be based on the service or product your business is most popular for.

Wow great content! I have just 2 quick questions if you could please help. 1. How did you come up with the keyword you needed? 2. The question was going to be about: Is google against this, but you answered that right afyer comment, lol! So alternate question, I remember someone saying there a way to report this right from the listing page. I done remember where. But if so, it would be easier then searching for the business on the page you reported them from.

Awsome video, greetings from Poland! I have a question about visibility of business pin? When it shows up or why it is unvisible? Ofcourse when somebody wrote in specyfic phrase then it showing up, but many people looking for businesses on maps without wroating any phares and I am unvisible for this people. How can I fix this?

Hi Adrian. The pin only shows if you have specified an address on your GMB listing. It is not linked with the keywords people are searching for.

HI, thanks for the awsome video. Quick question: If the business name is lets say "hair studio" and its the same with the storefront but in the website snd the domain name goes by "hair studio london" does that break the rule?

Yes it does. It's all about how you represent your business. All I'd need to do is check your storefront using google maps to see that the business name is "Hair Studio" and not "hair studio London". Also, trying to use "London" as a keyword to rank higher in Google wouldn't be very beneficial. People searching for a hair salon will do so using hyperlocal keywords such as "hair salon Clapham" or "hair salon Richmond" Try focusing on what's appropriate for your area.

My question in this is: who the hell searches for "xx in yy"? Maybe it's German behaviour, but here people only look for the keyword in maps. So only "Dentist" not "dentist Berlin".. does this work workout the city name too?

Hi. You mentioned that adding keywords to the name is against Google policies so help me understand what you did when you remove the Leapfrogwebdesign name and you just put Web Design Wimbledon as the name. What is the difference between doing this and adding keywords to the name? Because in this last example when your business jumped to #1, the business name is not even there so there's still the same risk. Not trying to play devil's advocate here, I truly love your content, I'm just trying to understand the strategy.

I did this only to illustrate how powerful adding keywords to the business name field on your listing is. Google's guidelines are very clear. If your business is called "X" in real life you should put X in the business name field of your listing and not "X web designer Dallas" for example

I have a google my business account that I literally could never get the code via mail, so I had to do a manual verification via google meet with a GMB representative. However, since we verified our business listing April 28th, our listing has stayed in the snap pack top 3 for only within maybe 0.5 mile of our shop. Does this manual verification hurt my GMB profile and if so should I just create another GMB profile and try to activate it via the code in the mail this time?

No the manual verification will not impact your visibility. Your reach will depend on many factors. From the sound of it is a fairly new business so probably needs a lot of work. Make sure your GMB profile is 100% complete, create relevant content on your site, build local external links to it etc...DO NOT create a second listing as it will end up being a duplicate of the first one

It's tricky because locksmith are well known for spamming google maps so Google is always on the look out if you are in that industry

I wonder how many legitimate businesses that have a keyword-rich trading name or DBA will get (temporarily) suspended by people following your advice and reporting businesses ranking above them because they didn't do enough due diligence before hitting the 'report' button?

It's so frustrating when you see large scale businesses employing these tactics to gain an edge. I've tried countless times to remove their spammed insertions but they simply replace them when they become aware, and as for Google, they do diddly-squat about it.

Yes of course. Categories play a big part, reviews also do, your website authority etc...

Great job again as usual, Luc. It's sad to see so many companies circumventing Google's algorithms. I agree that reporting them is part of the solution. Although I don't believe in karma, I'm sometimes hesitant in doing this. Would love to jump on a call with you to brainstorm this idea for keywords and local search results here in the US. Thanks Franck. I agree, it's to easy to rank a business based on the Google algorithm and Google is not efficient enough to punish the spammers. I've seen listings that dominates the maps for months on end and nothing is done about it. Will definitely let you know about a brainstorming session when I have some spare time 😅

After spending 10k in seo, I learned this exact cheat method my competition was doing. Reported everyone and I sky rocketed for months. I have 1 competitor who doesn't have a brick and mortar business but Google will not remove them!!! Any thoughts. There taking business from me based on their "location "

@@rankingacademy unfortunately not. In my industry there are specific addresses that you want a Google search to come up in. This company opened up a Regius office, was there long enough to receive a Google postcard... then left. I went there, provided photos and they still take 10000s of business from me.

Hi there, it's not just about your business name. Your GMB is not set up properly: Your a service area business but you have put an address on your listing, the website option redirects to an instagram page which goes against the google guidelines If i search for your business on google maps your cover image is TikTok picture with your tiktok handle on it....

Hmmm so if your competitors aren't keywork stuffing, do it, if they are report them....with the risk that they may do the same to you. Not sure that is great advice....

Hi Haus. thanks for your comment. I think you misunderstood. I never suggested you should add keywords to your business name. Watch the video again and you'll find that I recommend that a) you report spammers and b) if you want to take advantage of the Google Algorithm legitimately you would need to change the name of your business all together.

Not really. All you need to do is change your business name. To make sure it is done in the safest possible way so it fits with googles' guidelines dill in a DBA

So if I change the location of a business and change the name of the business along with changing the domain name, will it then be possible to save all of the reviews from the original?

You should be able to but you need to be careful how you handle this. First, Change the address of the listing. When you do, Google will almost certainly ask you to re-verify the listing. Don't do anything else until the listing is reverified. When done, make sure your listing is 100% compliant with Google's guidelines otherwise any further update may trigger a suspension. After that try changing your name and your website address. Again, this may trigger a suspension but hopefully it won't.

That doesn't sound very reassuring.And "might trigger a suspension" Well this is why I've been reluctant for many months to make this extremely important move, I'm looking for a tested proven and true method.But it's beginning to sound more and more like there is no such method. Is there a sure way of getting it done by some service for a fee?

I hope that Google is responsive to these violations. Unfortunately it doesn’t make sense for most people to just change their business name to “::my occupation:: in ::my location.”
