I thought I was the only person in the world who absolutely loved Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, but despised Venusaur, enough to not pick him over Squirtle. And yeah, I think they went too far in terms of design change from Ivysaur to Venusaur, relative to Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, making the whole thing a bit jarring. If Ivysaur was a bit closer to Venusaur, maybe it would have been easier to adjust, and even like Venusaur.

If we're going to judge them by how good they are in their respective games, typhlosion is actually better than Charizard, but Charizard looks cooler for sure.

@@toxiic1568 lol, not only do they have the same stats, but a near identical movepool by the time they're evolved. Only difference is Charizard gets an extra typing and moves. But i think the main thing against Zard is just that the gyms/elite 4 have better fire counters in Kanto. Whilst a fire type in Johto has free pickings and barely any competition.

@@toxiic1568 yeah, and it turns out getting rid of the flying typing and putting him in a different game makes typhlosion better in its respective games (GSC/HG/SS) than Charizard is Kanto games. Charizard doesn't line up very well against the important battles in the Kanto games, meanwhile, typhlosion movepool and lining up better overall against the johto region than Charizard does against Kanto makes him better. Competitive battling is a different an of worms, but as far as a playthrough goes, typhlosion is better to pick in its games than Charizard is in its games.

Definitely agreed with Primarina and Serperior. I always love to see appreciation for Primarina. My personal favorite Starter Pokémon. Followed by Cinderace in second and Serperior in third.

i loved combysken as a kid. the torchic line was always fun for me. I think his cry in emerald sounded cool and that carried me all the way to Blaziken

It's the typing for me. I was mind-blown as a kid when I found out how fantastic of a typing water/ground is. I was the Treecko team till then. The Hoenn starters are so balanced for their region. I never went with Muay Thai chicken unless I picked May. Felt wrong to have Brendan have the Muay Thai chicken as his ace.

Turning the electric weakness into an immunity is next level, and though he has a double weakness to grass (which made Sceptile my white whale as a kid), he can just pull out an ice beam and obliterate if need be. I still rate it, and I pick Swampert every time, but the other Gen III designs are just so good that it's hard to compete.

Exactly. Charizard looks so imponent and strong, no matter the hate it gets from being so popular. If they maintained charmeleon red color instead of that orange it would be even more badass. Theres nothing wrong with charizard being the favorite of many people and Alain/Leon's Ace Pokemon.

Yeah, but Delphox is getting into Unite, so... But I hard agree there was some favoritism shown towards Greninja. I dislike it because as a Greninja fan, it pains to see more reasons for Greninja getting hate because of that favoritism, which it does. Instead of what they are doing now in shafting Greninja for the entirety of Gen 8, retconning Ash-Greninja in the anime and removing support for it in future games, they should give it the Charizard treatment. As in, let it keep it's special form, but give the other starters their own forms to reduce the flak. If GF thinks that Charizard can be saved from both hate and it's special forms getting removed, then there is no reason the same can't be said for Greninja, who doesn't have an egregious number of forms to begin with, who is more popular than Charizard (as of 2020, 2021 PoTY awards) and who was saved before, when it was HATED at it's debut in Gen 6. And that's why I want to see Battle Bond forms for Delphox and Chesnaught down the line, either Gen 9 post-game/DLC, Gen 6 remakes or Gen 6 legends games. These 2 would have so much potential, even if it wasn't about the Greninja hate getting reduced. If Delphox's proportions were adjusted slightly, similar to how Greninja's colors were adjusted, it could be WAY more liked than it is. Not top 10 of the year, but still pretty popular, and cool nonetheless. A guy can dream, am I right?
