I like how so many comments are calling out Aladdin for the Genesis is not a Capcom game and then call out John for not doing research but it they took 5 seconds to scan the comment section, they would see it already has mentioned 15 times.

It's incredible how much variety the gaming industry used to deliver, specially in the 1990s and mid 2000s. It's actually quite a shame that the industry has grown stale these past few years... it's really a shame.

Toy Story was NOT a capcom game, Strider returms/2 was a US Gold Game

The best thing about 2 player forgotten worlds is that as long as one of you has life you will make it to the end. Game only ends when you both die at once. If one is alive the other will respawn.

I was fortunate enough to have both an SNES and a Genesis as a kid. And while I was more into RPGs than anything else, the Genesis still had some stuff I LOVED. Capcom is my favorite overall developer (THough if I'm being honest back then it was probably Squaresoft.) so I always knew they were delivering the goods. That said, Konami made my favorite Genesis game of all time in Rocket Knight Adventures.

Thanks Riggs for the video!! Here are some games i would have loved to see ported to Genesis; 1941, U.N. Squadron, and a non-Capcom fav, Aero fighters (Sonic Wings) would have been cool. If anyone out there with programming skills could do a port of either of these i would be very greatful. At least we now have Final Fight for Genesis!

Man, I still remember the cheat code for forgotten worlds to come back to life when you die but it had to be done on the second controller I believe.

Out of all of the Capcom games for The SEGA Genesis my favorite is Street fighter 2 Special Champion edition and the reason why because I always see Special Champion edition as the closet port to the original arcade version and with the 6 button controller it's an absolute joy to play with my good ol'boy Ryu, although I do enjoy Ghouls'n Ghost as well MERCS.

Great list, but I would've given Saturday Night Slam Masters a "C" because it lacked the tag team mode that the arcade and SNES versions had. The Death Match option was nice, but I would've traded that for a 4 player beatdown every time.

Of games released on sega and snes, the genesis does usually FEEL better. Maui Mallard being another great example.

The Punisher game on the arcade was a great beat em up. I guess it was not that great when it was ported to the Genesis. Love your videos, keep it up.

I didn't enjoy the Sega Genesis for a few years after its release. I had enough for one system and got me the Super Nintendo. It wasn't until it had been out about 5 years before I got me a Genesis. Both systems were great, and I really enjoyed them. The SNES / GENESIS days were awesome for gaming!

Oh! You did the waltz thing! My lady does that when she's figuring out if something's a waltz and always says, "123 123 123." Music theory is WAY over my head (I do a lot better with things like sound editing, where I can go by ear, by waveform, or occasionally by math), so I have no idea what she's counting, but it's interesting to see someone else do it! Anyway, Chiki Chiki Boys is a personal favorite of mine, and I think I like this version better than the Arcade original, similar as they are. For the same reason as you, I have the opposite opinon of Forgotten Worlds; MUCH better in the arcade. I also like Great Circus Mystery, and while we got that a bit later, we did at least get Quackshot and World of Illusion after Castle of Illusion, and those were both pretty great.

Forgotten Worlds was a Capcom arcade games, but this was a reprogrammed game by SEGA. For Ghouls n' Ghosts, Chiki Chiki Boys, Merce, Strider it is all the same thing. So technically , these are all SEGA games, reprogrammed and published by SEGA, based on Capcom arcade IP. Like most of these games a lot though. Strider Returns is a US Gold published game by Tiertex, using Capcom IP.

I loved the Genesis port of Forgotten Worlds. I thought the controls were fine. I never really heard many people talk about the game, so I never knew (or considered) how others felt about the controls. I guess I just assumed everyone was fine with them as well.

Everyone freaking out about what is and isn't Capcom...the first few games in the video were programmed for the platform by Sega themselves, they just did such a great job nobody cares because late 80s early 90s Sega was so good they could make a Capcom arcade port themselves without screwing it up. It shows what a death grip Nintendo still had on third parties but how Sega was slowly finding ways to tear it down.

Omg, sorry to say, but you explained the Original Mode on Mercs quite badly. Its a completly different game, with alternarive routes on map to find secrets, and you build up medals as money to upgrade your soldiers, while you manage their health and resources, changing on the go. This mode itself worth enough for the whole game experience. I love it.

Punisher is an A for me. We played it thru several times co-op.

I suspect that the video has been edited since Toy Story and Alladin aren't here anymore... so anyway I just think that Strider is the foremost game they released on Mega Drive, and I am looking forward to the arcade release of Punisher that's soon to come on the Marcel vs Capcom collection!

Sega themselves did Forgotten Worlds, Ghouls N Ghost, Mercs, and Strider on Genesis if I'm not mistaken. US Gold did Strider Returns.

The Sega port of Ghouls n Ghosts was programmed by none other than Yuji Naka, and his experience with porting GnG's uneven terrain on Genesis was later used for the inclining and declining level design in Sonic the Hedgehog

Sorry John but Virgin is responsible for the Sega Genesis version of Aladdin so it can't be on this list but the Super Nintendo version of Aladdin will take the A rating 👍👍

Sega made and published most of the Sega Genesis games in the early games. Sega just liscened the games from Capcom. Capcom didn't make their first real Sega Genesis game till Street fighter.

Chiki Chiki Boys was the same name on the home in Japan and the us version. Mega Twins is the name of the usa capcom arcade version. When sega reprogrammed the game for the Genesis they just kept the japanese arcade name. Chiki Chiki boys was also on the PC engine CD.

I remember enjoying Ghouls n' Ghosts on Genesis, and I don't know if it changed much functionally, but there was a code to play the Japanese equivalent, which I thought was neat. the SF2 games on Genesis, well I loved Special Champion Edition, but Super SF2 I definitely preferred the SNES version. Strider 1 I think I played a little bit of?! leaps and bounds better than Strider Returns anyway, I remember renting that one and not liking it at all.

It was Chiki Chiki Boys in all regions for the Genesis, it was only Mega Twins for US arcades. Simple mistake to make.

I wish Capcom would've given Sega a few more original Sega games, like Konami did. But they were pretty locked in to the Snes. But at least Capcom knew the Sega was an easier system to port arcade titles to, than the snes. Yes you could port to snes too, but their versions were always cropped, and ran a little slower. Snes did have it's own strengths though, like better color and effects you couldn't do on the Sega without some programming wizard.

Both those SF ports are excellent, especially with a good controller support. I got a Capcom Pad Soldier, just to play these games.

I played the mickey circus game with my son when he was younger. We both loved it, and beat it together. I recommend it to any adults. It wasn't hard, but it wasn't super easy. Relaxing maybe? I hate kirby and modern yoshi for how easy they are and liked this.

Forgotten Worlds - A+ (i love this game, great for 2 Player as you have Infinite Lives as long as you dont both die at the same time. would get an S but you basically get a few lives in Single Player compared to the near infinite 2 Player lives.) Ghouls N Ghosts - S (beat this game on Normal and Pro, not too long and not too short, great music, great weapons, fun times.) Chiki Chiki Boys - B (fun game, but the one thing that severely cripples it for me is that it is way too short, feels like i got only half a game in Stages.) Mercs - B (like the game, but it feels way too hard with how few lives you are given, even worse in Original Mode where you're expected to finish it without dying... yeesh..) Slam Masters - A (all the fun of a Wrestling game, made to play more like a Fighting game. prefer it on the SNES for better music quality.) Street Fighter II - A (again i prefer the version on SNES that has better music quality and has the extra 4 characters Fei Long, Cammy, T-Hawk and Dee Jay. feels incomplete so it gets an A.) Strider - B (solid game, i dont get the hype behind this game though, considering there are fans that label it an S, but still solid.) Strider II - D (yeah, it lacks solidarity... dunno what happened with Capcom making this sequel, but it felt like they improved nothing and made a lot of things worse, which after playing masterpieces like SOR2, it leaves you thinking "what the frack??") Great Circus Mystery - S (Disney's Magical Quest series by Capcom is quite the legacy, 3 games in total and two of them was exclusive to the SNES, with one of them being a Japan exclusive. this one is the second game in the series with the first being Mickey's Magical Quest. they might be "for kids" but they got that Ghouls N Ghosts level of challenge to them, dont underestimate it.) Punisher - A (my first ever experience of The Punisher and i loved how raw it felt, Frank Castle was no Batman, he was eager to kill any evil doer that made trouble on his turf.)

Good video, but you missed Mega Man: The Wily Wars (SEGA Channel exclusive).

I quickly got two 6 button controllers because of SF2 and Mortal Kombat. though MK is fully playable with the 3 button controller because of how the moves are mapped since the arcade is a 5 button game with 2 punches and kicks and a block. I also liked Strider Returns even though people hated it. the game could use a little more work but it's not terrible.

Maybe part 3 to Ghosts and Goblins could have been Demons and Wraiths. You are certainly right about how we should have acted during the console wars. I was the same, but now I am a true gamer. I follow the games, not the console nor the game producer.

I hate to be the one to say it, but Aladdin for Genesis wasn't developed by Capcom, it was developed by Virgin Interactive. For that matter, Toy Story was developed by Traveller's Tales. Capcom wasn't involved in either of those in any capacity. Strider Returns, on the other hand, is a more complicated story. Strider was by Capcom, but Returns came about because of the licensing agreement Capcom had with U.S. Gold and Tiertex in Europe (and that got even more confusing when the character rights to Hiryu were involved... long story there). Capcom had no involvement whatsover with Strider Returns, aside from maybe signing off on it. It was developed entirely by Tiertex, who also developed the PC game Strider II (no relation to the later Strider 2 for arcade/PS1), as well as the Master System and Game Gear Strider Returns.

Not even a mention that punisher was originally on the arcade and this was the best genesis could do....

I recall Amiga had something called, Half-Brite mode for graphics, wrt Toy Story. Same colors, just, half as bright.

Great video, though I'd have rated Punisher a D. Punisher is a great arcade game, but the Genesis port doesn't do it justice. Some enemy types are missing, such as the martial artists (Yan Lee & Shone in the arcade). It doesn't control as good, and the collision detection is wonky. Capcom should have kept Sculptured Software away from Punisher and hired A Wave (the developer of Final Fight CD) instead.
