an interesting thing I noticed, the first book you read was a huge flop for you because imo, the submitter listed reasons why you specifically wouldn’t like it. they took into consideration your least favorite things and gave you a book that checked those boxes. the other two recommendations felt very “i didn’t like this, therefore you won’t either,” without considering what you as a reader actually like/dislike, so it makes sense you’d have a more positive impression of those two books after reading them. very interesting video and would love to see more! 🥰

I read Of Mice and Men in middle school and let me tell you it was traumatizing to little 8th grader me. I cried so hard at the ending. Everyone in my class was so upset about the ending. It’s a great read and I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I really loved how you talked about "Of Mice and Men." You really touched on everything without spoiling the plot. When I first read it, I knew some basics about it, but not the ending twist at all. You briefly touch on how you've read other books using similar themes/twists and that they did it better...which is fair. But have you thought about how since "Of Mice and Men" is THE classic of this trope/theme, that the other books would not have existed without it? That Mice did it first? Perhaps if the classic was read first, then the others wouldn't have been as good? Or you'd appreciate the original more without the others shading your opinions?

I think Mice and Men get a bad rap, it's one of his better books. I really like the bond between George and Lennie and the care they had for each other, primarily when that thing wasn't heard of between two men, especially when it was every man for himself during the great depression. But George looks after Lennie, making sure he doesn't get into trouble, take care of, not taken advantage of, and in the end, he gives him better treatment than he would have gotten from others. It's a story of friendship between two broken people who care for each other through one of the bleakest parts of history.

Your first impression of reading Of Mice and Men was exactly how I felt when I read it for the first time in my youth. I cried when I read it for the first time, and maybe that's why I personally loved it so much. It was something I didn't expect. One of my favorite books.

i think you'll really love the skulduggery pleasant series by derek landy!! it's one of my favorite series of all time and it's so underrated. it's about this girl who becomes the apprentice and partner to this guy skulduggery pleasant aka the skeleton detective because he's a detective who's literally a skeleton. the two are technically detectives but it is much more of a save the world kind of book rather than mystery. the series definitely starts out for a younger audience but it's really long and the books get progressively more complicated. i read the first book in 4th grade and didn't know there were more books for like 5 years lol so it's okay if you don't read past the first book, but please at least read that one!! it's fun and hilarious and i think you'll really like it

I like insta attraction/insta connection, but I don’t like insta love. For example the live action Cinderella movie I would say is insta connection and I love that movie. When Ella and the prince meet they have a very lovely conversation that expresses each of their personalities so beautifully. Both of them feel that instant connection but I wouldn’t say they feel love until later on in the movie. If that makes any sense.

The Emigrants by Vilhelm Moberg. It's a Swedish classic and I think you will probably not enjoy it because it is pretty long and slow. It's about these Swedish people who make up a plan to flee their country because of poverty and all that and to get to America. I gave it 3/5 stars personally. It's good but quite slow.

Recommendations 4 Jesse: One You'll Hate: XOXO by Axie Oh; Insta-Love, Full On Romance, Conflict For No Reason One You'll Like (Maybe): Chain Mail: Addicted to You by Hiroshi Ishizaki; Kind of like a contemporary suspense/horror Japanese light novel; it's very short, action immediately starts and I would say its pretty enjoyable, I think you'd like it. One That Could Go Either Way: Dune by Frank Herbert; I don't think you read a lot of science fiction, so I could be wildly misjuding here, but since I notice you've read a lot of Murakami, I think some of the more abstract and philosophical ideas could work...or this could be a complete miss, for all the books I suggest

A book you may love (which I just recently finished) is Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. It’s a fantasy type book with some focus on the knights of the round table and Merlin but there are is a kind of complex magical system. It also has aspects in regards to current issues and personal struggles/growth. There is some romance but I wouldn’t say that it takes away from the main plot of the story. However, only the first book of the series is out so far.

A book that I think you'll love (that I hated) is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. The story follows three different characters who are dealing with their trauma after life changing events (9/11 and the Dresden firebombing). A book you might like... Maybe, words in deep blue, it's YA contemporary, you could like it, though I can't really tell because I'm always scared of giving book recommendations because the other person could end up hating them and then I feel bad because my recommendation wasted their time xD
