Small correction: the book doesn’t say that “the Creator” was the one responsible for Sam & Cat ending; she credits the cancellation to an unnamed producer’s sexual harassment. (But “The Creator” still gets reprimanded by Nick for unprofessionalism-though Jennette doesn’t link it to sexual abuse.) So there were likely SEVERAL predators running around a KIDS TV SHOW set, not just Schneider

yep, and not just in the live action department either. the loud house, one of nick's most successful animated shows in recent years, was created by an offender. an offender was also hired to work on spongebob back in 2019 too. rugrats isn't safe either (look up the "incredible storyboard jam" which was created by MULTIPLE writers on the show)

@@samg873 You are right!!! But at the same time, the creator and his team may be taking advantage of the actors who might be struggling/vulnerable, who really need that money. This was definitely one of the most well-written memoirs that I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It made my heart hurt even more because I, unfortunately, relate to many of the things she went through as a child. People often paint their parents as idols or devils. She did a great job of showing the complex feelings and issues that come with being raised by an abusive narcissistic parent.

I recently finished the audiobook and it was amazing! One of the aspects of the book that I found extremely troubling but also illuminating was the "cry on cue" discussion and how damaging that trait is for child actors. The well-respected director who requested that Jennette do a crying take one more time for his own personal entertainment showed how complicit the industry is in child abuse even when they aren't the direct perpetrators. The industry's flaws are systemic

YES TO CRITICAL ABILITY TO READ Also ... people on the articles are saying they hate how much Jennette complains ... umm she only wrote one book, it's the writers of these articles taking legit every sentence of the book and making it into an article. After reading the book, so many of the articles were over-dramatised and did not properly capture any of the nuance of her book

I've been following her series on KZfaq when she first started sharing stuff about herself not just the show and then her podcast etc and alot of the things she speaks about are just so raw and interesting and real. I also listed to Mara Wilson (matilda) but she's not brought out as much about herself really.

I can't read e-books and I regret so badly not pre-ordering a copy of this... I didn't realize it would sell out so fast. The bookstore I work at won't be getting more copies in until mid-September 😭

as an avid fan of her old podcast, I knew I’d have to wait until the time was right for me to read Jennette’s book and I’m so glad I did yesterday was the first time in years that I finished a book in one day and when I finally finished I couldn’t stop crying

Finished this a few days ago and I’m excited to see what you have to say about it! Watched the vid and I agree with you. This was such a well crafted memoir. You can tell she put a lot of effort into telling her story and putting purpose into it and I really appreciate that she didn’t do what a lot of other actors/KZfaqrs do. She had something to say and she slayed it! I noticed a couple errors on the summary you were telling at the end! 1) her moms’s “goal weight” for Jennette was 89 lbs. still horrible tho 2) her mom actually didn’t wake up from her coma bc Jennette told her she was at her goal weight. She mentions that in the prologue that this is when she realized how serious it was and that she was going to die and leave Jennette without a sense of purpose in her life since her ‘purpose’ for so long was making her mom happy:( I loved this vid! Please do more like this! I loved the end where you broke things down and went deeper into your thoughts about it. ❤️

I listened to it on Spotify and I’m so glad I got to hear her narrate it in her voice. I couldn’t stop listening until it was over.

I have literally NO idea about any of the people or TV you’re mentioning here! Nor have I ever heard of this book or was ever likely to read it BUT I love this video; how you put it together and how you describe things so I’ve subscribed as I like the way your mind works👍

Does anyone know if she gets too into her mother’s sickness/cancer? Like too detailed? That’s what triggers me, and it’s hard for me to read things like that. But if it’s just mentioned, and doesn’t get too detailed I might be able to read
