Welcome to my 1,000 subscriber special!
After exploring the original Dustbowl on Team Fortress Classic, I wanted to see a version made for Team Fortress 2. When I saw that nobody had made one, I knew instantly that I had to do it myself. It was a grueling task, but totally worth it in the end!
Thank you so much for 1,000 subscribers! I didn't think it would happen this quick, but I am happy to be able to reach and entertain so many of you! I intend to keep putting out interesting videos, so subscribe if you want to see more! Your feedback and support always make me glow! 💙💚❤️

Transparent pixels on images still store color data. The blue halo effect you see on textures with transparent parts is because those transparent pixels are still blue and when the game engine smoothes out the pixelated texture it draws from the colors of nearby pixels and grabs the blue. To fix this, color the transparent pixels with something like the average color of the rest of the texture and then make them transparent again. Edit: oh somebody beat me to it. Don't use black for the transparent pixels because it can create a black halo/outline effect. Use a color that matches the rest of the texture.
@TheAntlionGuard
@TheAntlionGuard 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you know this, but VTFedit has a batch converter. You can put all the textures in a folder and convert everything within that folder at the same time, WAY easier than doing them one by one. I wish I knew that long ago.

I'd love to see mappers take the layout of old maps like this, and recreate them in TF2's style. I know that's well beyond what you have time for, but I thought I'd float the idea.

In not going to be able to play this but it's still really cool to see something like this. I wonder what other maps could be ported from older games. Probably too much ask but still a thought. Im so happy I came across this video! A couple years ago i tried to import the half life blue shift maps into gmod and i ran into some issues with how the map was converted, leading to most textures not lining up correctly with the level geometry. I just converted the maps using the method you described in this video and the texture data seems to have properly carried over! I know it wasn’t your intent to make a tutorial, but this video just helped me a lot!

maaaan, i should've done this, considering I devised a way to port the old tf2 maps from the OG QWTF, which was even harder since vtfedit couldn't read the textures and I had to use even more old Quake 1 texture programs to extract them. I got pretty much all of it except the scrolling sky textures that were special to Quake 1. I've ported things like the original 2fort5, Endif, and ztricks, but I haven't done anything else from that. Either way, nice job man, I also remember having lighting issues when I was porting Endif. It was hard for me to continue working on it.
