I Sacrificed My Queen 39 Times Against Alexandra Botez

Күн бұрын

On December 15, I played a "Botez Gambit" themed match against the legend herself.
Here was the format:
Eric must sac a queen within the first 10 moves of each game. The match starts with 10 games of 3+0 and the rest of the games 1+0. First to 20 is victorious! Thanks to a generous donor, there was a $500 prize fund with 70% going to the winner and 30% to the runner-up.
Brace yourself for Botez Gambits...

The rule for this hugely entertaining event should be: Eric's queen must be left en prise for at least one opponent move within the first ten moves. If Alexandra doesn't take it, that's her prerogative/blunder, but Eric should not be compelled to then continue to leave his queen vulnerable until AB wants to grab it. The handicap is already huge enough.
@InvalidFingerprint
@InvalidFingerprint 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah but Eric could set it up for a Queen trade, which sort of defeats the purpose. I totally get what you're saying, but do remember that Eric is a notably stronger chess player.

25:08 after Ne6+ Kf7 you had Rxf6+! because if he took (Bxf6) you could family fork with Nd8 and bishop wouldn't be able to capture because it'd be pinned. Not saying I'd be able to notice it all the time tho while my clock was ticking with 30 seconds left. Just wanted to point out a nice tactic :) I really love your videos btw

Jesus christ, it's absolutely insane that you made it that close! I recently hit 2000 online rating and after easily beating stockfish on Lichess' highest setting a few times with queen odds I genuinly thought that at this point I could convert up a queen against anyone in the world. But Alex is 200 points higher than me... I guess people are much better at conceptualizing practical play in a completely lost position. Still completely blows my mind that a 2178 can be trading games equally up a queen, no matter who the oponent.

Win by 2 would've been interesting. But being able to sac your queen in the opening and win 19/39 games is unbelievable. based on the title i knew it went down to the wire, but i couldn't comprehend how you were able to win being down material. I'm sure this is a huge accomplishment for you even though you lost. Just keep your confidence and you'll keep on doing amazing. You could do a rematch where she has to sac her queen every game...
