I shoot jpeg mostly because I don't want to spend most of my day editing my photos. I just nail the exposure (and WB) on the camera, maybe under or overexpose just a tiny bit, and have a hassle-free photographic process. Fuji's jpeg is decent enough that I can adjust it if I messed up a little.

A lot of KZfaq photographers try and sell this "shoot raw" crap all the time. By all means shoot raw, but don't be afraid to shoot and edit jpegs if you're happy with the colours etc. Great video 🙏

That's so true, I got sick of them telling me to shoot raw, I have a fujifilm x100f I really love the film simulations in it and you can come up with nice recipes too, you are only able to do that if you shoot in jpeg and that's what I started doing.

Hi Omar, I just found this video which is so helpful. I have been shooting Fuji film for over a year now and have felt like I am the only one that isn't blown away by every Jpeg coming straight out the camera. Now I can see that many Jpegs do actually benefit from a light edit and you have shown some really great simple examples. Thanks for sharing !

That was brilliant. I like the Fuji system because of the film simulations but sometimes as you say the flatness is disappointing. I love colour too. I’ve got LR on my iPad but am very under confident using it so this video has been so helpful. I’ve only ever used the sliders before. I’m going to try the brush next. Thanks Omar.

Thank you Omar for this short and useful video. Yes I agree with you, most probably Fujifilm sensors are the only sensor-technology which provide this opportunity to take JPG straight out of camera and then do smoothly minor edit in Lightroom to get huge result! I tried Canon, Nikon, Sony but for this kind of result you need to shoot uncompressed RAW and spend more time for editing by switching between Lightroom and photoshop or other platforms like capture one (which I don’t like because I feel I’m more editor rather than a photographer). P.S. and of course this is possible when we agree the result (image quality) is at same level of acceptance!

Excellent demonstration. When I'm shooting pro jobs and or when lighting is tough and results matter, I will always shoot RAW. For my own personal stuff, such as street photography etc. I prefer to shoot JPG - using the simulations with a minor process tweak if needed. Cameras are really good today. Digital has made leaps and bounds in the last 4+ years. I love the Fuji jpegs as well as the Ricoh GR III - something about that negative film simulation and their hard black and white options. Amazingly responsive to a bit of quick push and pull post editing. Saves so much time (and space)... certainly more time to make pictures.

Fantastic lilttle tips; Omar. And I'm absolutely not saying this because I've been doing the exact same thing for the 4 years I've been shooting Fuji ^^. The thing with Fuji's Jpegs is that they got the same guy who was in charge of color science back in the days of designing all their various films... for their film simulations today ! Talk about consistency ! So obviously, he'd know a thing or 2 about color science. Like a lot of people before me, I fully trust his taste (especially in Astia, my sweet darling), and same as you, whenever I shoot straight in Jpeg, I make sure my exposure and white balance is right, and boom ! Good to go ! Only a few spices to make it just a tad bit more personal on my phone or comp, and voilà ! The cooking's all done ! Chef's kiss.

As an old school film photographer from the 80's/90's I had become an avid fan of RAW due to it's obvious benefits but have recently realised it's made me a lazy photographer who hardly needs to worry about exposure due to the huge exposure latitude and dynamic range on modern cameras. I now often shoot JPG as you have to hone your skills and pay attention to proper exposure and learning what settings for which camera (ETTR or ETTL), shooting weddings and fashion with film cameras you had to know for sure you nailed the shots as soon as you clicked the shutter, no previews or arear screen, juts lots of practice, not even the ability to change ISO (ASA back then) unless you had a changing bag and could work blind folded

I shoot JPEG+Raw mainly on my Fuji X-T30. After checking all the photo later (on my monitor) , I usually delete all the Raw. I love Fuji JPEGs and don't follow this absurd trend of ' Shoot to edit ' which is going on nowdays. I shoot raw just for a backup just in case I didn't like JPEG of any photo or want more detail in a certain photo to crop later but honestly 99% time I don't find myself in that situation. Biggest perk of Fuji simulations. ❤️ 📸

looking at the thumbnail through the bell notification smaller size i thought you grew hair :P hehe but yes people should and it wont hurt to experiment and try to edit their jpegs a little and see what actually happens. just last week thinking why am i editing my RAWs when im closer to my desired image in the fuji camera and I only need to adjust it just a little. still not sure but i believe it will prevent me from over editing my photo in the first place as well. Images are flat because the camera adjusts exposure to be an even tone - grey. So when a majority of tones in the image are black, it will boost exposure to make it grey. Snow always looks grey if left to the camera. Exposure comp is definitely a winner in this case.

Sometimes I wish RAW did not exist, or that I never knew about it. 99.8% of the time the JPEG is enough for me, or it can be slightly edited to get what I want. But since I know that RAW exists, I feel like I cannot give up that power, so my hard drives get full of RAW files I will surely never use. It feels really silly to use over 30 MB and have two files for a single picture, but I cannot convince myself give up either one.

"O knows PhotooooooOOO DOT COM" The thumbnail killed me haha. On a more serious side: I think the message is good. People in the internet act like people who shoot JPG have mental issues or something. It's fine, not as fine as RAW maybe but still, if the image is good and powerful, no one will ask. We started shooting images for other photographers but that shouldn't be necessarily be our audience.
