To get your wheelies right you need to ride the back break leaver constantly and let the bike go backwards just a little to far and then tap the back brake to bring it back and over then hit the throttle again and repeat. That's the game. And you never flip over backward because even if you go to far backward, a tap on the back brake brings you back upright. It's a dance back and forth every second or two. Your not trying to stay in the perfect upright position. Remember You want to always go past it and be ready with the brake or throttle to sway it back the other direction. Back an forth is the trick. When your brain gets it. It will come naturally to tap the break every time you go backward past the pivot point and then throttle when you come back. You already have the throttle side. All you need is the tipping over backward too far and tapping the back brake. Practice throttle to get it up and then break early then throttle again until you realize you could be all the way over backward ready to splat the pavement and all you have to do is tap the back break and your back up. Hope this helps somebody. good guys sway back and forth

Thanks for this! What I liked about Matt’s sur ron was the regen was on the throttle. Seems like it may be easier to get the balance point right with throttle modulation where as the recon is freewheel with the regen on the rear brake so if you tap the rear brake the front wheel comes down hard and fast due to the regen settings. Considering rewiring the regen to the throttle and/or adding a regen brake cut off switch so I can use the mechanical brake along with throttle as you mentioned.

@@JAF777 I put nearly 3000 miles on big hub motors commuting for years. I was only running about 2kW. But then one weekend I decided to have some fun doing 2-3kW continuous hard riding and the motor overheated and died. Windings shorted to each other. So yeah they work but must be babied a little bit, thermally speaking. Once I got live temperature monitoring going on my hub it was an eye opener - easily hitting 120C thermal roll back after 15 minute of riding at 30mph. As the owner of a Recon myself I can assure you that the pedals are just a place to plant your feet. You can pedal it on level ground about 1 mph at best (good luck uphill, the bike weighs 200 ibs.). But if you purchase the Schlumpf speed drive upgrade (approx. $1,000) then you can at least feel the tension on the pedals at speeds up to around 35 which helps with the ghost pedaling. If you're wanting something you can pedal then you should seriously consider something else because this bike is all about power, it's the real McCoy!!! Cab Motorworks does make other bikes that you might like better but even those are not toys.

some are mid drive, like my Sur Ron. there are many benefits and some downsides too. mid drive places the weight of the motor in a better place, as well as it is not "unsprung weight" which has many performance benefits. Also mid drive tends to have more torque starting from a stop. there are downsides though, such as the power need to be ran through some sort of chain or belt to deliver it to the rear wheel which causes more noise and power loss and the potential to break the chain and leave you stranded etc.
