By sharing this page from my journal (dated by 04.04.2024), I want to point out your attention to the importance of a present moment and the ability to enjoy the process:
💭 «All I have is the present moment…Once properly acknowledged, it really tends to cure a lot of the angst and looming worries. But I defer to some ominous future hour for my peace and happiness to arrive. Well, I am realising, this moment never really arrives. Following the cusp of selling my second company, I should be beside myself with feelings of positivity. Instead, I feel... weird. Already wiring myself for the next challenge with a new slate of stress, deadlines, uncertainties, and a general lack of peace of mind. This realisation made me reflect on the real source of happiness and the way to access it. Turns out, my best bet is to reframe how I conceptualise the path toward my goal. At every step of the way, there is plenty of happiness to extract and enhance the quality of my everyday life. If I can reframe how I think about the path toward my aim, enjoyment is right there, ready to be claimed. Find excitement and gratitude in the sweat and tears, but also in the small accomplishments, which I often fail to give myself credit for while waiting for the big deal to arrive.
Life passes by way too quickly…I won’t defer my contentment and happiness to some unknown time in the future, as that might never really arrive. Marie-Louise von Franz calls it the 'provisional life,' where we don’t fully acknowledge our role in the present moment and live in a fantasy where 'sometime in the future, the real thing will come about.' Well, the only real thing is exactly right here, right now. It is up to myself and my mindset to make it a positive or miserable experience.
Choose well today and every day beyond that!
