Today is perhaps my most important unboxing of the year, featuring a re-buy almost a decade in the making, of the best Tissot ever produced. But what makes this watch so unique and important? In this video I share an exciting reveal and exploration of a chronograph that was decades ahead of recent trends in watch design, marketing, size, and horological significance. Not only that, it honors a legacy that helped lay the foundation for the most iconic watch of all time-the Omega Speedmaster. Join me for a quintessentially Urban Gentry episode featuring an unboxing of the Tissot Janeiro COSC certified, manual wind chronograph (ref. Z199) that is essential viewing for Tissot fans, Omega diehards, chronograph lovers, and true watch enthusiasts. What do you think about the watches in this video? Please share in the comments.

Omg this is a perfect illustration of how your channel has evolved TGV. We're back to the old OG part time YouTubing and primary interest in watches but we've also changed a lot after our time away from the Janeiro. We've become so much more refined. When I see this watch, I remember you battling your health yet working hard to both collect watches and help us all become better versions of ourselves. That still inspires me today. Congratulations T!

Nothing wrong with a higher end Tissot. Im a solid fan of Tissot and Seiko both for good quality at a good price and the fact that my wife wont kill me for buying a new watch in their price points. I go buy a Tudor, Omega or NOMOS for 5-7k USD, im sleeping on the couch for a year.

I much prefer the Tissot Janiero over the Tudor. I'm weary of the conservative styling of Tudor. The Janiero is a breath of fresh air after the Tudor blandness. It's bursting with detail and intricacy. Love it.

The Janeiro returns!!!! Hallelujah. I remember when you sold it. I said to myself that you would rebuy it. Alas here we are. Fantastic. I bought a 1969 Speedy in Paris with my wife. Then foolishly I decided I would rather have other watches more and sold it. Recently I bought another Speedy and feel like I am home once again. A very pleasant turn of events. Congratulations. Take care, Michael

My, my my…once again, you manage to slip in more than a minor history lesson (hella thought-provoking, too - I was nodding my head more than a little), *then* make your big reveal, which I love, and truly agree was worth letting go of the Tudor for. One *very* minor quibble would be your take on the usefulness of the Telemeter scale: from an outdoorsperson's perspective, it can come in handy when dealing with an impromptu, incoming thunderstorm: gauging distance and direction. (On the cheaper end, this is why I love my 90s-era Seiko 7T32-9000 chronograph, which also nails that vintage-chrono vibe surprisingly well. Great presentation, once again!

As always another great video. It's a lovely watch and I am glad you were able to find one in such good condition. We are all growing older, and would like to think, changing for the better, and our taste in watches changes with us. I'm really happy to see it wasn't another diver. Nothing against divers, but at least for me I am drawn towards a regular bezeled watch, classic designs, ease of legibility, looking for the go anywhere do anything style. Thank you for the history lesson, I never leave your site without learning, for that I am grateful to you. May you and yours be well, Peace

Pure class 1930s aesthetics and another reminder of how tasteful and observing Dan Henry is with his 1939 Chronograph hommage. I'm glad to see that you've decided to allow Tissot back into your life! You should be thankful that you can wear it. I just had the harrowing experience of going to an AD to buy a Jet Star Limited Edition (96K112) only to find out that it's at least 4mm too small for my wrist. Having slab wrists really does suck sometimes because it locks you out of the vast majority of watches. It would appear that I can't really pull off anything smaller than 44mm with very few exceptions. The 40mm Jet Star looked absolutely ridiculous on me because it looked like a Happy Meal toy. Sure, I can easily pull off a Tissot Seastar 2000, Bulova Lunar Pilot and Invicta Grand Diver, but there's not much else out there for a wrist with a sweet spot of 44-47mm. I envy you for that, I really do.

Excellent video...I feel that I have just watched a movie, with some watch information. I'm glad that you like your Tissot, for the second time.

I’d say you made the right choice. This is quite a special piece and as you pointed out, you have the Day Date. You could never have sold the Tudor Sub, so there was no suspense for me, but I wasn’t here for chills and thrills. Just the interesting content as per usual 🥂

Hi TGV! And back it is! I remember the old videos featuring this model. Congrats. Let’s see how long it is going to stay this time… 😉 Best regards, Claus

I was shocked by how nice your kitchen looks, your living room is so cluttered 😅. Great review as always. Thank you

What an amazing video, part horology, part aviation history, one rarely gets this on most channels, high production values. And an amazing watch. Tissot and Swiss Made meant nothing to me as a boy. Had I known, I’d have bypassed my Pulsar Kinetic and gone straight for an automatic or windup. Thanks for the education.
