The UQi+ and the UQi Pro cannot be registered with the SAAQ. That is because they were imported as ebikes and do not have the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) and do not bear the manufacturer's National Safety Mark (NSM). If they did, you could get it registered, but you would also need a scooter license and civil liability insurance. My Niu retailer (Jusst, formerly Dyad) suggested to send our opinions, questions or concerns to SAAQ at this email address: francois.fortin@saaq.gouv.qc.ca For the moment, it seems we are stuck with a bike we're not allowed to use, and the government doesn't care. I have already starte advertising mine For Sale out of this province. You could realistically get about 50% of the price you paid, depending on how much you've used it and how many cycles are left on the battery. Mine is modified with central storage, larger seat, etc., so I've already got a $6,000 ride that is going to waste, unless I can sell it to get some of that money back. Basically, we're losing money and I don't see a proper way out. There's already been official complaints with the Consumer Protection Office, since we purchased these in good faith only to have it banned without warning or a transition period. I'm also thinking about anyone doing UberEats, DoorDash, etc., but have just lost the main tool of their job. It's a sad day... My Niu retailer's email included exclusive rebates for existing customers on legal scooters and ebikes (for example, the NQi GTS Pro is $3,999 instead of $6,699). You have to be an existing customer with them to get those rebates.

@@pataaqui2045 I had just dropped it for a tune-up and wheel alignment Monday. It got banned Tuesday. I picked it up to bring it to storage today (Thursday), which was my last (and technically illegal) ride.

@@MontrealRides it is terrible! I feel that we were sold a scooter but we bought an e-bike, there is no mentioned of that anywhere, the store, jusst didn't tell us that certain models were ebikes and some were scooters, I am pretty upset with them not taking responsibility for this. There was no way we could have know.

@@pataaqui2045 To be fair, these were legally ebikes up until last Tuesday. The government allowed its import and sale as ebikes for years. Now with the surprise ban, even the stores themselves (and not just Jusst) are stuck with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of inventory they cannot even sell. There was no way the stores could have known this would change overnight. If there's blame to give, send it to the SAAQ and the CAQ government.👿 If you were sold a scooter, they would have asked for a driver's license, and you wouldn't be allowed to ride them on bike paths. 😅
