Like my reply to many😏, I'm getting a massive rebate as an existing customer affected by the new laws. My price tag is 3,999 instead of 6,699. Also, courses and insurance for motorcycles are much more expensive, since they require more training and are more dangerous. I'm only getting the Class 6D moped license, which is 3 hours of theory and 3 hours of practice, and an SAAQ knowledge test. Nothing more. As a comparison, the Class 6A motorcycle license has a pre-training SAAQ knowledge test, 32 hours of courses (theory and practice), another SAAQ closed-track test, 11 months of learner's license, and a final SAAQ road test. In a few years, I will begin training for the Class 6A.

As one of your subscribers, I know you use the Euro. So, it's the equivalent of about 4,400 Euros. But I'm allowing a larger expense, but I'm getting a large rebate as an existing customer affected by the new law. I'll be getting it for 3,999 Canadian $, which is about 2,650 Euros. Electric vehicles are always a bit more expensive on the purchase, but you save sooo much money on fuel, especially since electricity is the cheapest in my province.

It legally goes up to 70 km/h, unlike the multitude of illegal e-kickscooters and e-bikes that can reach ridiculous speeds (illegally, but tolerated because they don't "look like a scooter"). 😏 Be careful: Even if you import something that respects Ontario laws, it doesn't mean you can bring it into Quebec with its new laws. Maybe double-check with the SAAQ to make sure everything is good-to-go! As a side note: You have Canadian citizenship... you should have the same free healthcare in any province in the country, LOL. I think you may have meant Ontario residency, which mainly determines what provincial income taxes you have to pay and which services you can or cannot have.

I had no clue it was banned until 2 weeks later. I was riding my ebike motorcycle from home to work and back. I passed by many cops but did not get pulled over once. I was so lucky. I started to get my license 1 month before the law happen and now have my learners license. Now my ebike motorcycle is accumulating dust. I found a way to register it but will cost 500$ just to get the paper. I'm not sure i want to spend that amount since i need new batterie and possibly a new motor. To me sound like a waste of money i will probably end up breaking it into part and sell parts and say good bye to it. At least i got that ebike 2 years ago and rode it for 7000km. I do have a e-fatbike that i modified to have a trunk, 4 piston brake and a much better suspension and i also installed myself new headlight and signal flasher and honk and that honk saved my life couple of time. I've been saving to buy a truck and will start my own company. I also think of moving to alberta. Quebec is just insane more and more every year.

LOL, I have seen some leftover banned rides going around, and felt like telling them they couldn't ride anymore, but I was always across a 6-lane boulevard or in a bus. It's a good thing you also have an alternative e-bike, I think I will be getting myself one as well, just to have that option. If you don't mind, can you share where/how it is people can get theirs possibly registered? I'm sure it would help a few people that want to keep riding their bike legally.

@@MontrealRides To be honest there is another reason i don't want to pay that 500$ is that the guy is a crook. Before the law he was charging 150 and now he charge 500$ But for those still interested and you can drive to Trois-Rivieres then you can go to a dealership called Motosport Bois-franc Mauricie on 2515 Rue Royale, Trois-Rivières, QC G9A 4L7 The way it works is that you basically "sell" the ebike to him to then resell it to you then by buying it from him he give you a piece of paper that you can use to go to SAAQ and register your ebike scooter style or moto style as a scooter. But i'm pretty sure you need proof of purchase of your ebike.
@MontrealRides
@MontrealRides 3 күн бұрын
@@XxFri3ndlyxX Trois-Rivière?!? A bit far for me, LOL! Having no car, I'd have to bus it. And all without the UQi+. I see the dealership is taking advantage of the situation to make extra money. Of course, if it's sold back to us as a scooter, hopefully the dealership would put the CMVSS stamp on the ride so that it is approved for public roads. On top of getting it registered, one would also need to have at least a Class 6D scooter license and insurance, too. And considering my UQi+ can't go fast (top 37-38 km/h in Sports Mode), there would probably be many road limitations (on top of not being allowed on bike paths). But, good to know there are options! Thanks for that!

Sadly, Quebec is a backward society. They legalize it, after collecting all the tax revenue from the scooters and they banned it. What happened to green and eco friendly city. This is only 3 months of summer where we can be outside and getting the fresh air. Instead they want the noisy gas scooter, where they want you to pay into their system each year.

Hi . . . you should be able to get a doctors note from your doctor claiming you have an anxiety disability about using gas powered vehicles as a primary mode of transportation. You therefore need this electric vehicle as an accommodation for your anxiety disability. While yes someone could claim there are other electric vehicles/bikes, you should have the right to choose your disability accommodation (the law protects that) . . . this is no different than a four wheeled scooter for mobility impairments . . . if you have an anxiety about using gas powered vehicles, you have a right to your accommodation . . . you will need a doctors note recognizing your anxiety issue and you will have to assert your disability rights to choose your accommodation. Your goal should be to put a check on Quebec Government abuse of power . . . there are many many many people who ride electric devices due to their anxiety issues over using petroleum based conveyances . . . there is clearly something wrong with the government telling people what assistive devices they can choose to use to mitigate their anxiety. This should be a solid legal argument to successfully override any ticket issued to someone riding any assistive technology device such as a NIU UQI+ In the UK there are many so called "Auditors" who fly drones and have challenged the law (including police officers abusing authority). The goal of these "Auditors" is often to educate the public and advocate for the rights of citizens engaged in legal activities such as flying drones. There can be no doubt that many people ride electric cycles as an adaptive technology to combat their anxiety over petroleum use and damage to the environment and communities. In Quebec Rules for allocating assistive devices The process for allocating assistive devices starts with an overall assessment. Health professionals recommend assistive devices based on the person’s needs and situation. These recommendations may pertain to: the use of assistive devices to ensure safety during daily activities; learning new strategies to increase functional autonomy; the layout of the home, school or professional environment. Criteria The proposed assistive device will be: the one that allows the person to be autonomous on a daily basis; the one that meets the needs in the simplest possible way; the one that is the most economical when several assistive devices can meet the identified needs. An assistive device can be recommended for each of your needs identified during the assessment. Where a single assistive device can meet several of your needs, the loan of that particular device will be prioritised. Process To enrol in this program, contact your Integrated Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS) or your Integrated University Health and Social Services Centre (CIUSSS).

@@MontrealRides definitely pin it if you have someone in your community or the Quebec area who is ready to challenge this Provincial Government over-reach this can assist in getting exemptions from the type of scrutiny being suggested by the Provincial Government on these electric scooters. I doubt very much a traffic court Justice would uphold the Quebec Government's ban of one type of electric Scooter while others are allowed to escape scrutiny based on who the manufacturer is or what the styling and various bumpers are and side panels are. The bike you have is no bigger really than the bike was that was next to it at the electric bike shop . . . honestly, if the Quebec Government is going there, what's next? . . . maybe banninga man from being on the road because he's twice the size of another man?

You're absolutely correct! I looked it up to be sure. There was a time, years ago, when it wasn't allowed. Later it was allowed as long as your have certified winter tires. Quebec tried to change that law again in 2021 to not allow motorcycles, scooters and mopeds in winter, but the law was not passed. I found it on the SAAQ's website: saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-safety/modes-transportation/moped-scooter/weather-conditions From December 1 to March 15, you can ride motorcycles, scooters and mopeds on public roads, as long as you have winter tires. Though they don't recommend it, as it is easy to slip and fall on two wheels in the snow. 😃

The way the Canadian constitution works is that the Federal Government will set the minimum standards. It is then up to the Provincial Governments to decide on what can be allowed or banned from the roads in their provinces. As such, the UQi+ can be imported into Canada, based on Federal regulations. While the UQi+ is banned in Quebec, it is still allowed in other provinces in Canada.

One slight correction: the bikes didn't pass CMVSS not only because they didn't need to but because there's no way they could pass anyway because as bicycles they were fitted with components that were lighter and not compliant with CMVSS. With that in mind I still think the way the SAAQ has implemented this is ridiculous from a practical, economical and environmental standpoint. IMO these vehicles need to be plated and insured. There should be a new class created for them with the corresponding license and appropriate restrictions and there should be a grandfather clause for existing vehicles meeting basic safety criterias to be salvaged. On a sidenote good luck with your scooter training process at least the silver lining is a real scooter can keep up with city traffic so you'll at least see some real-life improvements in return for your efforts!

6:35 This is Montreal for you! Two 1-way streets that meet ➡️⬅️ at a large boulevard with bike paths and pedestrian crossings. Instead of large NO ENTRY signs, all you have, amidst the usual traffic, buses, bikes, pedestrians, trees and other visual stimuli, are these 2 green on white panels pointing left and right. Nothing red, you know, which would catch your eye to something NOT to do. Also, the parked cars on the right, ahead, are obscured by bushes so you don’t see they are facing you until you are close to them, the typical way the brain understands the direction of a street. The 2 panels are quite far as well, whereas the one on the left, above our rider’s left mirror, is actually a panel for the people coming from right to left on the main boulevard, but looks almost perfectly straight-on for our rider, contradicting the previous 2 panels which tell you you can only turn, by telling you you can go straight. I’m not surprised the rider made this mistake, especially while vlogging (equivalent on the brain to talking on the phone hands-free).

I forgot to add a link in the description of the new rules. Here's the link that summarizes it: saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/newsroom/article/circulation-interdite-aux-motocyclettes-et-cyclomoteurs-non-conformes This new rule is more about making cycling purists "feel safe" and not based on actual statistics of safety. So, from what I understand, if it looks like motorcycle, moped or scooter (even though everything else about it would be legal), then it has been banned. This would make bikes that look café racers illegal on public roads. To recap the conditions: 1) If it has footrest or platforms for the riders' feet, it's not allowed. 2) If the tires look like those of motorcycles or scooters, it's not allowed. (what about fat tires?) 3) If it has a body (panels) that partly or completely covers the frame or some of the component and no adjustable seat, it's not allowed, it's not allowed. (oddly, this includes the Banana Boss, because the seat is not adjustable, but it looks like a bicycle, so it's tolerated ... double-standards, I guess) 4) If it can go above 32 km/h or is rated above 500W, it's not allowed. If your ride was imported as an e-bike, it would not have the safety mark (Canada's stamp of approval for use on public roads). But if it does have that safety mark, you can get it registered & plated with the SAAQ, and get it insured. You would need the appropriate driver's license for it, and would not be allowed on bike paths. Finally, if you remain uncertain (I can understand that), contact the SAAQ directly: saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/reach-us Sorry for the long-winded reply, but these answers are complex and this issue gets me riled up. I'll go eat breakfast now and update the video's description. 😄

The UQi+ is so small, it can't even be registered as a scooter. It's smaller (and less fast) than many e-bikes. I'm sorry that it scares you (or that you need something to hate). Still, a 100 km/h kickscooter is ok, apparently... smh...

It is now illegal for Fake Vespa scooters with pedal and fake motocross bikes that have no adjustable seats like your Niu uqi+ to no longer ride bike paths. If they want to continue riding it has to be in the streets with registration just like a motorcycle. So yes you are illegal. 300 to 600 $ fine . Sell it to your cousin in Ontario. By a Kaabo scooter . All legal .
@MontrealRides
@MontrealRides 14 күн бұрын
It's not that simple. My UQI+ and others like it were imported as e-bikes, since they fit the old legal definition of an e-bike. Like all bikes and e-bikes and kickscooters, they are not compliant with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). Had they been imported as e-scooters (not e-kickscooters), they would be compliant. With the new rules, no one can continue riding it on the streets with registration/license/insurance, since only vehicles that meet the CMVSS and have the official stamp of it can be registered with the SAAQ. So, a few thousand people just lost the their means of travel, overnight, with no warning nor transition period. In my case, the only thing that doesn't fit the description is adjustable seat and "looks like a scooter". As for the Kaabo electric kickscooters, only the Mantix X and the Skywalker 8H have 500W, which would make them legal in Quebec. But their top speeds of 50 km/h and 38 km/h, higher the 32 km/h limit, making them illegal in Quebec. So, no, the Kaabo e-kickscooters are not all legal in this province.

Yes but they are not certified in Canada. They need for certification and after registration with insurance proof and then you buy a license plate and you ride only in streets and no longer on bike paths scaring people since they think it is a motorcycle .Sadly. The seller on Prince -Arthur st have lots to sell but now is not allowed to sell any . Just like my friends at E Z Wheels on Descarie blv. He cannot sell the 60 motocross style scooter bikes. Stock with lots of inventories . But hey we had riders going at least at 60 km/hr on bike pats with no helmet and they all looked stone. Good luck with the rest. Go exchange at the store for something legal. Like a kick scooter. All is legal with kick scooters because they represent a lesser risk for injuries . Thats all. Guys riding like you are dangerous on Bike Pats not Kick Scooters. Period. How many Kick scooters in Montreal going over 60 km/hr ? but how many fake scooters and fake motocross e bike at 25 km/hr on bike paths. Finish for the dangerous riders on bike paths.

Anyone high on drugs riding anything is a danger to others (bike, scooter, skateboard, rollerblades, a car, etc.). I've never seen the "fake-scooters" go at 60 km/h. They're not built to go fast and have speed limiters. I've seen plenty of tolerated e-bikes, EUCs and kickscooters going too fast on sidewalks, bike paths, roads, and against traffic. But they don't "look like a scooter", so "it's okay", even though rules and laws are being broken. I guess it depends on which part of town you live in? But apparently, guys like me that ride safely, and respect traffic signs and other road users, are "dangerous" because my bike "looks like a scooter". Anyone afraid of a UQi+ needs therapy for deeper emotional troubles. Whatever you may believe, not all is legal with electric kickscooters. They were originally banned in Quebec when they first came out. Now, they are currently on a pilot project since 2022 until 2026, to study their safety, find if the laws need to be adjusted, or maybe re-ban them. The number of accidents and infractions for kickscooter riders has been on the rise in the last couple of years in Montreal (doubled from 2023 to 2024, according to some news articles). The rules could change in a couple of years, so keep an eye on those rules. The rules for now: Français: www.quebec.ca/transports/circulation-securite-routiere/regles-conseils-mode-transport/trottinettes-electriques English: www.quebec.ca/en/transports/traffic-road-safety/traffic-rules-tips-various-transportation-modes/electric-scooters I'm sorry to say that I was wrong about the speed limit for electric kickscooters. It's not 32 km/h, but 25 km/h. So, under the current rules, none of Kaabo's models are legal in Quebec. Be careful out there and stay safe on the roads!

Hey not built for high speed but it is possible in a safe place like the Formula 1 race track. I got up to 98 km/hr on a smooth ride. I use resin pads, they don't last as long as metallic, but they squeak less, restaurants are allowed to build a terasse on the bike path 😮, i think they will make that law clearer, because it doesn't make any sense, it was made by bureaucrats, that absolutely know nothing about E-bikes, Saint-Hubert street, my parents used to bring me there to eat at Saint-Hubert's and there was also a steak house there.

My pads are encased in something that generates power from braking heat and returns to the battery. Changing the pads on my moped requires a lot more work, when compared to 90% of disc brakes. And yeah, restaurants use to build the terrasses close to their doors, but the city made a law to leave a minimum space between the door and the terrasse. So, waiters have to cross through crowds of non-client to get to clients sitting outside. Terrasses can extend onto the street, usually taking up parking space. When there's a bike path, blue bars have been installed to guide the cyclists around it. Of course, the restaurants pay for terrasse permits, and pay extra when taking up parking or cycling space. Thank you for watching my videos! People like you make me want to keep going!

One would think it was encouraged, but politician and cycling purists with no idea make the decisions. In this case, they redefined or clarified what can legally be considered an e-bike, excluding anything that looks like a moped, scooter or motorcycle. My NIU UQi+ basically fits the entire list of conditions, except for its look. It's stupid, but with the current provincial government party in power, it should only get worse. The UQi+ and the UQi Pro cannot be registered with the SAAQ. That is because they were imported as ebikes and do not have the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) and do not bear the manufacturer's National Safety Mark (NSM). If they did, you could get it registered, but you would also need a scooter license and civil liability insurance. My Niu retailer (Jusst, formerly Dyad) suggested to send our opinions, questions or concerns to SAAQ at this email address: [email protected] For the moment, it seems we are stuck with a bike we're not allowed to use, and the government doesn't care. I have already starte advertising mine For Sale out of this province. You could realistically get about 50% of the price you paid, depending on how much you've used it and how many cycles are left on the battery. Mine is modified with central storage, larger seat, etc., so I've already got a $6,000 ride that is going to waste, unless I can sell it to get some of that money back. Basically, we're losing money and I don't see a proper way out. There's already been official complaints with the Consumer Protection Office, since we purchased these in good faith only to have it banned without warning or a transition period. I'm also thinking about anyone doing UberEats, DoorDash, etc., but have just lost the main tool of their job. It's a sad day... My Niu retailer's email included exclusive rebates for existing customers on legal scooters and ebikes (for example, the NQi GTS Pro is $3,999 instead of $6,699). You have to be an existing customer with them to get those rebates.

@@pataaqui2045 To be fair, these were legally ebikes up until last Tuesday. The government allowed its import and sale as ebikes for years. Now with the surprise ban, even the stores themselves (and not just Jusst) are stuck with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of inventory they cannot even sell. There was no way the stores could have known this would change overnight.
